Recently, some NYPD officers were arraigned for "fixing" tickets for family and other people. As expected, a huge outcry came about. Citizens and politicians are upset that Police officers can even think about doing this. It is not fair that cops give out tickets to anyone without remorse, yet give a free pass to their own family and friends.
Oh the many times I have seen this happen. I have witnessed the ticketing of disabled people, elderly people, clergy visiting sick people, and just common people who are obviously not criminal. It is disturbing that these did not get their tickets fixed, but the acquaintances of the accused did.
The NYPD have on their vehicles the words, "Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect." Ironically, the Police union is calling the fixing a "courtesy."
Come again? How is it fair to give some citizens courtesy and not others? What happened to "professionalism?"
Police officers are expected to do their job and not relax their responsibilities for anyone, not even their own family or others. A good example is of New Jersey Police Chief Vincent Caruso who ticketed his own wife! He understood his job and did not relax his responsibilities not even to his own wife. He obviously has showed integrity and honesty. (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/NJ-Police-Chief-Orders-Parking-Ticket-for-Wife-130803143.html)
