Reflection: 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Simplicity

The readings for the Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time in Year B offer profound insights into the nature of God's calling and our response to His grace. Let's reflect on the key themes from each reading.

First Reading: Amos 7:12-15

In this passage, Amos, a humble shepherd and dresser of sycamores, is called by God to prophesy to Israel. Despite being dismissed by Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, Amos remains steadfast in his mission. This reading highlights the theme of divine calling and the courage to follow God's will, even when faced with opposition. It reminds us that God often chooses the unlikely and the humble to carry out His work, emphasizing that our background or status does not limit God's plans for us.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 85:9-14

The psalm is a beautiful prayer for God's mercy and salvation. It speaks of the meeting of kindness and truth, justice and peace. This imagery portrays a harmonious world where God's presence brings about true peace and prosperity. The psalm invites us to trust in God's promises and to seek His guidance in our lives, knowing that His justice and peace will prevail.

Second Reading: Ephesians 1:3-14

Paul's letter to the Ephesians is a hymn of praise for the spiritual blessings we have in Christ. It speaks of our adoption as God's children, the redemption through Christ's blood, and the revelation of God's will. This passage emphasizes the richness of God's grace and the purpose He has for each of us. It calls us to live in a way that reflects our identity as God's chosen people, destined for holiness and praise.

Gospel: Mark 6:7-13

In the Gospel, Jesus sends out the Twelve Apostles, instructing them to take nothing for their journey except a staff. They are to rely on God's providence and the hospitality of those they encounter. This mission underscores the importance of trust in God and the simplicity of life. It also highlights the communal aspect of the Christian mission, as the apostles are sent out in pairs to support and encourage each other.

Reflection

The readings for this Sunday invite us to reflect on our own calling and mission. Like Amos, we may feel unqualified or face resistance, but God's call is persistent and empowering. The psalm reassures us of God's faithful presence and the peace that comes from living in His truth. Paul's letter to the Ephesians reminds us of the incredible blessings we have received and our identity as God's beloved children. Finally, the Gospel challenges us to trust in God's provision and to embrace the simplicity and community of our Christian journey. Simplicity is key to authentic evangelization. Today we see many so-called ministers and pastors who promote prosperity via material goods and live in lavish mansions. This is not what Christ desired.  Unfortunately, we see in the Catholic Church prelates, priests, deacons, even religious and lay people live in lavish homes as if earth were their final destination and they settled down here forever. This is not so. We need to live free from material possessions and money as if they are the only thing that matter.

As we meditate on these readings, let us ask for the grace to respond to God's call with courage and faith, to live out our identity as His children, and to trust in His providence as we journey together in faith.

On another note, former President and current presidential candidate Donald John Trump was shot but a sniper yesterday. He was not serious injured, but the event has left a lot of negativity in America and concern. Two other persons were injurered and one was killed as well. We must end violence. Violence cannot be a means of expressing any communication or disagreement.  We pray for the former president and those affected by the shooting.

President Trump Shot at Rally

There was a recent incident at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where former President Donald Trump was targeted in what is being investigated as an assassination attempt. Former President Donald Trump was indeed shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred when shots were fired, and Trump was struck by a bullet that pierced his right ear.

He received immediate medical attention and is reported to be recovering. During the rally, gunshots were heard, and Trump was quickly surrounded by Secret Service agents and rushed off stage. The shooter, who fired from an elevated position outside the venue, is deceased. Unfortunately, one spectator was killed, and two others were seriously injured.

Trump was taken to a local medical facility and is reported to be fine. The FBI is leading the investigation, and Attorney General Merrick Garland has condemned the attack as an assault on democracy. This incident has sparked reactions of horror and anger from various political figures and supporters.

As Trump was speaking with his usual flare and energy, gunshots could be heard. Trump slightly jolted and touched his right ear and the looked as his hand quickly before going down to the stage floor. Several shots could be heard in the background.

At first, it was believed Trump was gunned down by the way he fell down, but audio shows the secret service telling him to duck. They immediately went over him shielding him.  The numerous gunshots are believed to have been the secret service taking down the sniper.  The Secret Service quickly intervened, and the shooter was neutralized. Unfortunately, one spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured.

Trump is seen rising with a bloody ear. As the secret service try to remove him from the stage, he stops them and raises his fist in the air in defiance shouting "fight." He continued this pose throughout the path as the secret service was evacuating him. Onlookers could see his face dripping with bright red blood. Trump looked visibly shaken and in pain but defiant at the same time. He was rushed off to an undisclosed location which later on was revealed to be a local hospital where he was treated. President Trump released a statement on Truth Social.

President Joe Biden condemned the attack, emphasizing the need to unite against such violence. Several other political figures condemened the attack, specifically Nancy Pelosi, Churck Schumer, former presidents Obama and Bush, vice president Kamala Harris and several others.  Cell phone video seems to identify the suspect laying dead on a nearby roof. He looks to be wearing paramilitary gear.  As it stands, there is no clear motive for the assassination attempt. Whether it was politically motivated, terrorism or a lone wolf situation remains unclear.  There were reports of people seeing a man laying dead on the ground with brain matter scattered about him, however, it seems this was the attendee who was shot dead and not the sniper himself.

In any event, the assassination attempt brings up serious questions in regards to the secret service parameter set up. Many are asking how a sniper could have gotten so close to the former president in regards to shooting range. Some are speculating that this event was somehow stages or was an planned by political opponents looking to get rid of Trump.

Others are saying God protected the former president who was literally less than an inch from being killed like former president John F. Kennedy. Trump walked away with a grase wound. Part of his upper ear looks like it was shot off. Some on social media are showing screen captures of what seems to be a bullet hole on the suit jacket of Trump. Nothing has been confirmed in regards to any bullets hitting his torso.

It's a significant and concerning event, and more details are likely to emerge as investigations continue. In a presser held, officials said this shooting brings a lot of concern for the future. They are wondering how this happened with all the security present and screenings. There is concern that copycats out there will attempt the same with Trump again or even the current President, Joe Biden. If it was this easy to hit Trump, then no one is safe.  There are also reports of suspicious packages nearby where bomb swuads were called in to investigate. President Biden has spoken with President Trump.

New details say the shooter is a native Pennsylvanian man in his 20s. Law officials have been reluctant of releasing his name until there is further confirmation.  The deceased attendee at the rally and two other injured attendees are male.

Biden Says '... picked Vice President Trump to be Vice President'

In a recent press conference meant to show Biden is competent to be president, President Joe Biden made a verbal slip-up that quickly became the subject of media attention and public discourse.

While intending to refer to Vice President Kamala Harris, President Biden mistakenly used the name "Vice President Trump." This gaffe occurred during a NATO summit press conference, a setting where every word is closely scrutinized by the press and public alike.  The slip-up happened just hours after Biden introduced President of Ukraine Zelensky as President Putin.

Such slips of the tongue are not uncommon in the high-pressure environment of politics, where leaders are expected to deliver precise and impactful messages often without the benefit of a script. President Biden, known for his candid speaking style, has had his share of verbal missteps in the past, which he typically addresses with a quick correction and a move forward in the conversation.

The reaction to this particular incident was mixed, with some seeing it as a harmless mistake while others raised questions about its implications. It's important to note that public figures are constantly under the microscope, and their words can be magnified and analyzed, sometimes out of proportion to the intent or importance of the message.

In the context of the press conference, President Biden was discussing the qualifications of Vice President Harris to potentially lead the nation. His inadvertent reference to "Vice President Trump" was quickly corrected, but it did not escape the notice of the media and the public. This moment highlights the intense scrutiny faced by political leaders and the challenges they encounter in consistently delivering messages under the public eye.

The role of the media in such instances is to report on these events, providing context and analysis. It's also an opportunity for the public to reflect on the nature of political communication and the expectations we place on our leaders. While perfection in speech is an unrealistic expectation for anyone, the ability to communicate effectively and handle the inevitable slip-ups with grace is a valuable skill in the political arena.

This incident serves as a reminder of the human element in politics, where even the most experienced leaders can have a lapse in speech. It also underscores the importance of focusing on the substance of the message rather than the occasional stumble in its delivery. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the public's understanding and interpretation of these moments will undoubtedly play a role in shaping the discourse around our leaders and their communication styles.

July Heat 2024 & Global Warming

The Heat is On: Understanding the 2024 July Heat Wave and Its Connection to Global Warming

As the summer of 2024 progresses, the July heat wave gripping the United States has become a hot topic of discussion - no pun intended. With temperatures soaring to record highs, the impact of this extreme weather event is felt across the nation, from increased wildfire risks in the Western states to health alerts in Southern and Central Europe. This heat wave is not an isolated incident but a manifestation of the broader and more complex issue of global warming.

The science behind global warming is clear: human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, have led to an increase in greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. This, in turn, traps more heat and leads to a rise in global temperatures. The consequences are far-reaching and include more frequent and severe heat waves, like the one we are currently experiencing.

Reports from ScienceAlert and The Conversation highlight that the past 13 months have been the hottest on record for each respective month, with the average temperature for the previous 12 months being at least 1.5°C warmer than the pre-industrial average. This trend is alarming and underscores the urgency with which we must address the issue of climate change.

The Paris Climate Agreement set a goal to keep global warming under 1.5°C, averaged over a 30-year period, to limit the impact of natural year-to-year fluctuations. However, the current trajectory suggests that we may cross this threshold within the next decade if significant action is not taken.

The toll of the heat wave and global warming is not just measured in temperature but in human lives and ecosystems. From the tragic loss of over a thousand people during the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia to the overwhelmed hospitals in Karachi, Pakistan, the human cost is devastating. Moreover, the environmental impact, such as the drying out of landscapes and the fueling of wildfires, cannot be ignored.

As we face these challenges, it is crucial to understand that global warming is not just a scientific or environmental issue; it is a social problem that affects us all. It requires a collective effort from governments, businesses, communities, and individuals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Pope Francis' Laudato Si encyclical makes it clear the Climate Change is a serious issue and that humanity has to take account for the pollution it has distributed upon the Earth causing the globe to warm.  From Laudato Si:

Pollution, waste and the throwaway culture

20. Some forms of pollution are part of people’s daily experience. Exposure to atmospheric pollutants produces a broad spectrum of health hazards, especially for the poor, and causes millions of premature deaths. People take sick, for example, from breathing high levels of smoke from fuels used in cooking or heating. There is also pollution that affects everyone, caused by transport, industrial fumes, substances which contribute to the acidification of soil and water, fertilizers, insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and agrotoxins in general. Technology, which, linked to business interests, is presented as the only way of solving these problems, in fact proves incapable of seeing the mysterious network of relations between things and so sometimes solves one problem only to create others.

21. Account must also be taken of the pollution produced by residue, including dangerous waste present in different areas. Each year hundreds of millions of tons of waste are generated, much of it non-biodegradable, highly toxic and radioactive, from homes and businesses, from construction and demolition sites, from clinical, electronic and industrial sources. The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth. In many parts of the planet, the elderly lament that once beautiful landscapes are now covered with rubbish. Industrial waste and chemical products utilized in cities and agricultural areas can lead to bioaccumulation in the organisms of the local population, even when levels of toxins in those places are low. Frequently no measures are taken until after people’s health has been irreversibly affected.

22. These problems are closely linked to a throwaway culture which affects the excluded just as it quickly reduces things to rubbish. To cite one example, most of the paper we produce is thrown away and not recycled. It is hard for us to accept that the way natural ecosystems work is exemplary: plants synthesize nutrients which feed herbivores; these in turn become food for carnivores, which produce significant quantities of organic waste which give rise to new generations of plants. But our industrial system, at the end of its cycle of production and consumption, has not developed the capacity to absorb and reuse waste and by-products. We have not yet managed to adopt a circular model of production capable of preserving resources for present and future generations, while limiting as much as possible the use of non-renewable resources, moderating their consumption, maximizing their efficient use, reusing and recycling them. A serious consideration of this issue would be one way of counteracting the throwaway culture which affects the entire planet, but it must be said that only limited progress has been made in this regard.

Climate as a common good

23. The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all. At the global level, it is a complex system linked to many of the essential conditions for human life. A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system. In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events, even if a scientifically determinable cause cannot be assigned to each particular phenomenon. Humanity is called to recognize the need for changes of lifestyle, production and consumption, in order to combat this warming or at least the human causes which produce or aggravate it. It is true that there are other factors (such as volcanic activity, variations in the earth’s orbit and axis, the solar cycle), yet a number of scientific studies indicate that most global warming in recent decades is due to the great concentration of greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides and others) released mainly as a result of human activity. As these gases build up in the atmosphere, they hamper the escape of heat produced by sunlight at the earth’s surface. The problem is aggravated by a model of development based on the intensive use of fossil fuels, which is at the heart of the worldwide energy system. Another determining factor has been an increase in changed uses of the soil, principally deforestation for agricultural purposes.

24. Warming has effects on the carbon cycle. It creates a vicious circle which aggravates the situation even more, affecting the availability of essential resources like drinking water, energy and agricultural production in warmer regions, and leading to the extinction of part of the planet’s biodiversity. The melting in the polar ice caps and in high altitude plains can lead to the dangerous release of methane gas, while the decomposition of frozen organic material can further increase the emission of carbon dioxide. Things are made worse by the loss of tropical forests which would otherwise help to mitigate climate change. Carbon dioxide pollution increases the acidification of the oceans and compromises the marine food chain. If present trends continue, this century may well witness extraordinary climate change and an unprecedented destruction of ecosystems, with serious consequences for all of us. A rise in the sea level, for example, can create extremely serious situations, if we consider that a quarter of the world’s population lives on the coast or nearby, and that the majority of our megacities are situated in coastal areas.

25. Climate change is a global problem with grave implications: environmental, social, economic, political and for the distribution of goods. It represents one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day. Its worst impact will probably be felt by developing countries in coming decades. Many of the poor live in areas particularly affected by phenomena related to warming, and their means of subsistence are largely dependent on natural reserves and ecosystemic services such as agriculture, fishing and forestry. They have no other financial activities or resources which can enable them to adapt to climate change or to face natural disasters, and their access to social services and protection is very limited. For example, changes in climate, to which animals and plants cannot adapt, lead them to migrate; this in turn affects the livelihood of the poor, who are then forced to leave their homes, with great uncertainty for their future and that of their children. There has been a tragic rise in the number of migrants seeking to flee from the growing poverty caused by environmental degradation. They are not recognized by international conventions as refugees; they bear the loss of the lives they have left behind, without enjoying any legal protection whatsoever. Sadly, there is widespread indifference to such suffering, which is even now taking place throughout our world. Our lack of response to these tragedies involving our brothers and sisters points to the loss of that sense of responsibility for our fellow men and women upon which all civil society is founded.

26. Many of those who possess more resources and economic or political power seem mostly to be concerned with masking the problems or concealing their symptoms, simply making efforts to reduce some of the negative impacts of climate change. However, many of these symptoms indicate that such effects will continue to worsen if we continue with current models of production and consumption. There is an urgent need to develop policies so that, in the next few years, the emission of carbon dioxide and other highly polluting gases can be drastically reduced, for example, substituting for fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy. Worldwide there is minimal access to clean and renewable energy. There is still a need to develop adequate storage technologies. Some countries have made considerable progress, although it is far from constituting a significant proportion. Investments have also been made in means of production and transportation which consume less energy and require fewer raw materials, as well as in methods of construction and renovating buildings which improve their energy efficiency. But these good practices are still far from widespread.

(Laudato si' (24 May 2015) | Francis (vatican.va))

In conclusion, the July heat wave of 2024 serves as a stark reminder of the reality of global warming. It is a call to action for all of us to take meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future. By understanding the connection between these extreme weather events and the broader issue of climate change, we can begin to implement solutions that will protect our planet for generations to come.

Rosa Mystica Given the Vatican Clear

Exploring the Rosa Mystica Apparitions and Their Recognition by the Vatican

The Rosa Mystica apparitions, a series of reported visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Montichiari and Fontanelle, Italy, have captivated the faithful and intrigued scholars for decades. These apparitions, which occurred between 1947 and 1966, were reported by Pierina Gilli, a nurse who described visions of Mary, who appeared with three swords piercing her breast, symbolizing prayer, penitence, and expiation.

The messages of the Rosa Mystica emphasized the importance of prayer, penance, and conversion, calling for the sanctification of clergy and religious life. The apparitions also introduced the Hour of Grace on December 8th, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a time dedicated to prayer and reflection.

The Rosa Mystica Apparitions: A Journey of Faith and Devotion

The Rosa Mystica apparitions are a series of reported visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary that have captivated the faithful for decades. These events are centered around Pierina Gilli, a nurse in the small town of Montichiari, Italy, who claimed to have witnessed the Virgin Mary appearing to her in the spring of 1947. The apparitions continued sporadically until 1966, weaving a narrative of prayer, penance, and expiation.

The initial apparition was marked by a vision of the Virgin Mary appearing sorrowful, with three swords piercing her heart, symbolizing the lack of faith, hope, and charity among the people. She spoke the words "prayer, penitence, and expiation," which would become the central themes of the Rosa Mystica devotion.

Subsequent apparitions elaborated on these themes. On July 13, 1947, the Virgin Mary appeared with three roses in place of the swords, each representing a different virtue: a white rose for prayer, a red rose for sacrifice, and a yellow rose for penance. She expressed a desire for the renewal of religious life and the sanctification of clergy and laity alike.

The messages from these apparitions emphasized the importance of the 13th of each month as a day dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with July 13th specifically set aside to honor the "Rosa Mystica." The Virgin Mary's request for the "Hour of Grace" on December 8th, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, highlighted the significance of prayer and grace in the life of the Church.

The apparitions in Montichiari and Fontanelle gained a following among the faithful, leading to the establishment of a sanctuary and the practice of the Hour of Grace, which involves an hour of prayer from noon to 1 p.m. on December 8th. Participants are encouraged to pray with outstretched arms, reciting Psalm 51 three times, reflecting on repentance and seeking divine mercy.

The Rosa Mystica apparitions, while not officially recognized by the Vatican for many years, were recently approved by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. This approval, endorsed by Pope Francis, acknowledges the spiritual value of the messages and the devotion they inspired. The approval letter noted that the spiritual proposal emerging from Pierina Gilli's experiences does not contain elements contrary to Church doctrine.

The story of the Rosa Mystica is a testament to the enduring power of Marian devotion in the Catholic faith. It underscores the belief in Mary's role as an intercessor and guide towards a deeper spiritual life. For many, the Rosa Mystica is not just a title but a call to live out the virtues of prayer, sacrifice, and penance in daily life.

The Miracles of Rosa Mystica: Signs of Faith and Hope

The Rosa Mystica apparitions, which took place between 1947 and 1966 in Montichiari and Fontanelle, Italy, have been associated with various miracles and signs of grace, reflecting the deep faith and devotion of those who believe in the messages conveyed by the Blessed Virgin Mary to Pierina Gilli. These reported miracles serve as a source of inspiration and hope for many, reinforcing the spiritual significance of the Rosa Mystica devotion.

One of the most well-known miracles associated with Rosa Mystica is the "miracle of the roses" that occurred during the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1531. This event is commemorated as a sign of the Virgin Mary's presence and intercession.

In Venezuela, the Rosa Mystica devotion has been linked to claims of miracles as the Pilgrim Virgin traveled through homes in the arms of devoted followers. The faithful have reported experiences of healing and conversions, attributing these events to the intercession of María, Rosa Mystica.

At the sanctuary in Montichiari, visitors have reported miraculous healings attributed to the water from the well where the Virgin Mary instructed Pierina Gilli to place a crucifix. This water, considered holy by many, has become a symbol of the divine grace that flows from the devotion to Rosa Mystica.

Additionally, there have been accounts of the scent of roses manifesting without a natural explanation, often during prayer or at the sanctuary. Such occurrences are seen as a tangible sign of the Virgin Mary's presence and her title as the Mystical Rose.

The Rosa Mystica apparitions have also been associated with the transformation of lives, with individuals reporting profound spiritual renewals and a deeper commitment to the virtues of prayer, sacrifice, and penance as advocated by the Virgin Mary in her messages to Pierina Gilli.

While the Church has been cautious in its recognition of these events, the recent approval by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, endorsed by Pope Francis, acknowledges the spiritual value of the messages and the devotion they inspired, without making a definitive statement on the miraculous nature of the events.

The stories of miracles associated with Rosa Mystica continue to be shared among the faithful, each one a personal testament to the power of faith and the belief in the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. These accounts encourage believers to seek solace and guidance through the Rosa Mystica devotion, finding in it a source of spiritual strength and grace.

As the Rosa Mystica devotion continues to spread, it serves as a reminder of the potential for grace and conversion, even in the most challenging times. It invites believers to reflect on their own lives and to seek a closer relationship with the divine through the maternal care of Mary, the Mystical Rose.

Recently, the Vatican has taken steps to formally recognize the devotion associated with the Rosa Mystica. On July 8, 2024, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith approved the devotion to Our Lady Rosa Mystica, marking a significant moment for devotees who have long sought ecclesiastical approval.

This recognition does not necessarily confirm the supernatural nature of the apparitions but acknowledges the positive fruits of the devotion and its alignment with Catholic teachings. It allows the faithful to practice the devotion with the Church's blessing, providing a framework for the veneration of Mary under the title of Rosa Mystica.

The Vatican's recent news also highlights the Church's ongoing efforts to discern and guide the faithful in matters of private revelation. The careful evaluation process underscores the Church's commitment to protecting the integrity of the faith while also embracing the spiritual richness that such devotions can offer.

I have witnessed the power of Our Lady, especially under the title of Rosa Mystica. I remember as a junior high schooler in the Bronx. The miraculous statue was brought to St. Thomas Aquinas at the request of Bishop Francisco Garmendia. My friend Jose Davila accompanied me along with my sister and mother. He was very sick, sneezing, itchy watery eyes, in a word, miserable. We had the Mass and then a Rosary. I recall the entire Church was filled with a strong aroma of roses. The scent was natural, not like those in Rosary scented Rosary beads or perfume. It was as if someone dumped a truckload of roses on the sanctuary.  I noticed that Jose's symptoms were gone. He noticed it too and was shocked. After this, he started becoming more responsive to Catholicism.  It was an amazing experience. Another man who had AIDs was also cured. He was frail, very thin with purple spots on his face and body.  He literally changed overnight looking healthy. Others were cured of cancer and other ailments.

As the devotion to Rosa Mystica gains official recognition, it joins a long tradition of Marian spirituality that has shaped the faith and practices of Catholics around the world. It serves as a reminder of the Church's maternal figure's enduring presence and her call to live a life of holiness.

14th Sunday of Ordinary Time: Jesus Not Welcomed

Reflection for the Readings of the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 7, 2024, Year B

The 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to reflect on the themes of humility, strength in weakness, and the acceptance of God's prophets. The readings for this Sunday offer a rich tapestry of lessons that are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.

The first reading from Ezekiel (Ez 2:2-5) presents us with the image of the prophet sent to the Israelites, a people described as rebellious and hard-hearted. Ezekiel's mission is to deliver God's message, regardless of whether it is heeded or not. This passage challenges us to consider our own receptiveness to the prophetic voices in our lives. Are we open to the messages that may call us to change, or do we resist and rebel against them?

The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 123:1-2, 2, 3-4) echoes this theme of humility and dependence on God. It is a plea for mercy, recognizing our own limitations and the contempt we often face in the world. This psalm encourages us to lift our eyes to the Lord, seeking His grace in times of trial and contempt.

In the second reading, St. Paul speaks to the Corinthians (2 Cor 12:7-10) about his "thorn in the flesh," a metaphor for a challenge or hardship that he endures. Paul's reflection on his weakness reveals a profound spiritual truth: it is in our weaknesses that Christ's power is made perfect. This counterintuitive message invites us to embrace our vulnerabilities, not as liabilities, but as opportunities for God's grace to work within us.

The 'thorn in the flesh' is a phrase that originates from the Apostle Paul's second letter to the Corinthians in the Christian New Testament. In his letter, Paul speaks of a 'thorn in the flesh' that was given to him, which he describes as a messenger of Satan sent to buffet him. The exact nature of this 'thorn' has been the subject of much theological debate and speculation over the centuries.

The phrase is generally understood to symbolize a persistent problem or challenge that causes suffering or distress, yet serves a purpose in the individual's spiritual growth or humility. In Paul's context, it is often interpreted as a metaphor for the trials and persecutions he faced, which, despite being a source of pain and weakness, also kept him from becoming conceited due to the extraordinary revelations he received.

Some interpretations suggest that the 'thorn' could have been a physical ailment, a personal limitation, or an emotional or spiritual trial. The key takeaway from Paul's message is that his weakness, symbolized by the 'thorn', was a means through which God's power was made perfect. Paul's acceptance of his 'thorn' reflects a profound spiritual insight: that human weakness can be an occasion for experiencing the strength and grace of God.

In a broader sense, the 'thorn in the flesh' has come to represent any ongoing difficulty or struggle that one must endure, which paradoxically can lead to greater resilience, character development, and reliance on a higher power. It is a reminder that sometimes the most challenging aspects of our lives can be transformative, leading to deeper wisdom and compassion.

The symbolism of the 'thorn in the flesh' thus resonates with many people, regardless of their religious beliefs, as it encapsulates the universal experience of dealing with personal trials and the growth that can come from them. It encourages individuals to find meaning and strength in their struggles and to recognize that even in weakness, there can be power.

The Gospel of Mark (Mk 6:1-6) recounts Jesus' return to His hometown, where He is met with skepticism and rejection. Familiarity breeds contempt, and the very people who should have recognized Jesus' wisdom and power are the ones who doubt Him. This narrative prompts us to examine how we receive the familiar prophets among us—those in our families, communities, and churches. Do we honor and accept the gifts they bring, or do we dismiss them because we think we know them too well?

Jesus is ignored. He is set aside by the people in His own hometown. Today, how many times do we ignore Jesus? We are so used to the routine of being a Catholic that we forget Jesus. Jesus becomes a ritual instead of a person. He is ignored by the clergy, religious, and lay people.

These readings collectively urge us to celebrate the gifts of the whole community, recognizing that each person has something unique to contribute. They call us to a deeper understanding of community, where togetherness and individuality are not mutually exclusive but are harmoniously intertwined.

As we prepare for the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, let us meditate on these scriptures and their implications for our lives. May we be open to the prophetic voices around us, humble in our approach to God, and strong in our weaknesses, knowing that it is through them that we can truly experience the power of Christ?

V is for Vattene! Archbishop Vigano Excommunicated for Schism

The Vatican's Excommunication of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò: A Detailed Examination

While America was celebrating its independence day, the Vatican was giving "independence" to Archbishop Vigano via excommunication.

The recent news of the excommunication of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has sent ripples through the Catholic community and beyond. The Vatican's decision is a significant event in the Church's history, reflecting its commitment to preserving unity and doctrinal integrity.

Archbishop Viganò, who previously served as the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, was found guilty of schism after a thorough investigation by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. This verdict was reached following his public statements that rejected the legitimacy of Pope Francis and the Second Vatican Council.

Schism, as defined by the Code of Canon Law, is a grave offense against the unity of the Church. It involves the refusal to submit to the Pope's authority or to maintain communion with members of the Church who are subject to him. The penalty for such an offense is excommunication latae sententiae, which is automatically incurred at the moment the act is committed.

The excommunication of Archbishop Viganò underscores the seriousness with which the Church views the crime of schism. It is not merely a punitive measure but also a call to reflection and reconciliation. The Church's laws are designed to protect the faith and ensure that its teachings are not distorted by individual interpretations that deviate from the core doctrines.

Understanding the Impact of Excommunication in the Catholic Church

Excommunication is a term that often brings to mind images of medieval banishments and severe ecclesiastical penalties. However, the modern Catholic Church views excommunication not as a punitive end, but as a medicinal means to guide the excommunicated back to the fold of the Church. The effects of excommunication are specific and aim to awaken an individual to their wrongdoing, encouraging repentance and reconciliation with the Church community.

When a person is excommunicated, they are restricted from participating in certain sacraments and ecclesiastical functions. This includes being barred from receiving the Eucharist, the central sacrament of the Catholic faith. Additionally, an excommunicated individual cannot receive sacramental absolution, except in danger of death, nor can they exercise any ecclesiastical offices, ministries, or functions, or place acts of governance.

It's important to note that excommunication does not mean a person is condemned or permanently cast out from the Church. The baptized individual still retains their Christian identity and remains subject to the Church's jurisdiction. The ultimate goal of excommunication is to encourage the person to reflect on their actions, seek forgiveness, and return to full communion with the Church.

The process of lifting excommunication typically involves sincere repentance and confession of the offense. The individual must approach a priest or bishop with the authority to absolve the specific censure, express contrition, and fulfill any prescribed penance. Once these steps are completed, the person can be fully reintegrated into the life of the Church.

In summary, excommunication is a serious but reversible condition in the Catholic Church. It serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of actions that sever one from the communal and sacramental life of the Church. Yet, it also stands as an invitation to conversion and renewal, emphasizing the Church's enduring commitment to mercy and reconciliation. For those seeking more information on the subject, resources are available through Catholic education platforms and official Church documents.

The process leading to the excommunication was marked by due diligence and adherence to canonical procedures. Archbishop Viganò was given ample opportunity to defend himself, including the option to appoint an advocate or present a written defense. His decision not to engage with the process was respected, but it ultimately led to the imposition of the penalty.

The timing of the announcement, coinciding with America's Independence Day, has been noted by observers and commentators. Some see it as a symbolic gesture, emphasizing the universal nature of the Church's laws, transcending national celebrations and temporal concerns.

The excommunication is a reminder of the Church's dedication to maintaining its unity and the integrity of its teachings. It also serves as a sobering example of the consequences of actions that threaten the cohesion of the Catholic community. The Church needs to go farther by excommunication others as well who are causing division: Taylor Marshall, One Peter Five, Mike Lewis, Fr. James Martin, President Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Fr. Z, Rorate Caeli blogger, and many others.  These distort the Catholic faith for their own agendas and cause division among Catholics.

In conclusion, the excommunication of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò is a significant moment for the Catholic Church. It highlights the importance of unity and the dangers of schism within the ecclesiastical structure. The Church continues to uphold its traditions and laws, affirming its commitment to the spiritual well-being of its faithful and the preservation of its foundational beliefs.

July 4: Independence Day - Freedom Only Comes From God

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is a significant date in United States history that marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This historic document proclaimed the thirteen American colonies as independent states, no longer under British rule. The day is celebrated with various traditions, including fireworks, parades, and barbecues, symbolizing the freedom and liberties that Americans enjoy.

The Signers of the Declaration of Independence: A Legacy of Courage and Conviction

The Declaration of Independence is not just a seminal document in the history of the United States; it is a symbol of freedom and human rights that resonates worldwide. The signers of this document were a diverse group of individuals who shared a common belief in liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They were representatives from the thirteen American colonies, and their signatures marked a moment of immense historical significance—the birth of a new nation.

Among the signers were esteemed figures such as John Hancock, whose bold signature is perhaps the most recognized. Hancock, along with Samuel Adams and John Adams from Massachusetts, were influential leaders in the early stages of the American Revolution. Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration, was a Virginia delegate known for his eloquent writing and philosophical depth.

These men, along with their fellow signers, came from various backgrounds and professions. They were lawyers, merchants, plantation owners, and physicians, each bringing their unique perspective to the Continental Congress. Some, like Benjamin Franklin, were already well-known for their contributions to science and public affairs. Others, such as Roger Sherman, would go on to sign other foundational documents of the United States, including the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The act of signing the Declaration was one of bravery. By affixing their names to this document, the signers were committing an act of treason against the British Crown and risking their lives and livelihoods. The Declaration's concluding statement, "we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor," was not mere rhetoric; it was a solemn vow that bound these individuals together in a cause greater than themselves.

The signers represented a cross-section of colonial society, with the largest number (nine) hailing from Pennsylvania. The New England Colonies were represented by fourteen signers, the Middle Colonies by twenty-one, and the Southern Colonies also by twenty-one. This geographical diversity underscored the widespread desire for independence that had grown across the colonies.

The signing took place primarily on August 2, 1776, at the Pennsylvania State House, later renamed Independence Hall, in Philadelphia. Contrary to popular belief, it did not occur on July 4, the day the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration. The New York delegation abstained from voting on July 4 because they had not yet received instructions to vote for independence, but they later signed the document.

The legacy of the signers is not only in their act of defiance against tyranny but also in their vision for a nation built on principles of freedom and equality. Their signatures on the Declaration of Independence laid the foundation for the United States of America, a country that continues to strive toward the ideals they set forth over two centuries ago.

As we celebrate Independence Day, we remember not just the document they signed, but the courage and conviction of the 56 men who stood united in their quest for a better future. Their actions remind us that freedom is not free; it is won through determination, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in the unalienable rights of all people. The signers of the Declaration of Independence are a testament to the enduring power of these ideals and the spirit of a nation that cherishes liberty above all.

The concept of freedom is deeply rooted in philosophical and religious thought. Many believe that freedom is a divine right granted by God, which is reflected in the Declaration of Independence itself with the famous phrase, "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights." This intertwines the idea of freedom with a higher power, suggesting that liberty is not just a human invention but a sacred gift.

Freedom of religion, a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance, is also a cornerstone of American values. It is protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits laws establishing a national religion or impeding the free exercise of religion for its citizens. This reflects the belief that the ability to worship freely is a fundamental human right, possibly bestowed by a divine presence.

The intertwining of freedom and divine providence has been a topic of discussion and interpretation throughout American history. It has shaped the nation's understanding of liberty and justice, influencing the way Americans celebrate their independence and how they perceive their rights and responsibilities.

As we reflect on the history of July 4th and the broader concept of freedom, it's important to recognize the diverse perspectives that contribute to the ongoing dialogue about liberty, rights, and the role of the divine in human affairs. Whether one views freedom as a gift from God or as a secular right, it remains a defining aspect of the American identity and a cause for celebration each Independence Day.

Vatican Bans Tattoos

The Intersection of Faith and Ink: Understanding the Vatican's Stance on Tattoos

Tattoos have been a form of expression for thousands of years, serving as symbols of cultural identity, personal milestones, and even spiritual beliefs. In recent times, the conversation around tattoos has permeated various spheres, including religious institutions. A topic of particular interest is the Vatican's stance on tattoos, which has been a subject of curiosity and sometimes, misconception.

The Vatican, the heart of the Catholic Church, has recently updated its regulations concerning tattoos for its employees. As of June 29, 2024, workers in St. Peter's Basilica are barred from having visible tattoos or piercings. This move aligns with the Vatican's emphasis on maintaining a certain decorum within its sacred spaces.  This new stance is interesting due to the fact that nearly a decade ago, Pope Francis encouraged the use of tattoos to promote the faith. However, it's important to note that these rules apply strictly to employees within the basilica and not to the general public or the Catholic community at large.

When it comes to Catholic teachings on tattoos, there is no official doctrine that outright prohibits them or encourages them. The Catholic Church does not consider tattoos intrinsically evil or morally problematic. However, God has an issue with them as we read in Leviticus 19:28.  In context, the tattoo prohibition here was in regard to the Pagans and their markings used to worship idol and false deities.

This perspective opens up a broader dialogue about the role of tattoos in expressing one's faith or personal journey. In fact, Pope Francis himself has spoken on the matter, suggesting that tattoos can be an opportunity for dialogue about values and belonging. He has been quoted saying, "Don't be afraid of tattoos," acknowledging that Christians have been marking their bodies with crosses and other religious symbols for centuries.

Leviticus 19:28: “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord."

The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney advises a thoughtful approach to tattooing, encouraging designs that communicate a positive message rather than an offensive or morally questionable one. This guidance reflects the Church's broader view on personal expression: it should uplift, not denigrate; it should express love, not hate; and it should be reflective of one's beliefs in a respectful manner.

For visitors to the Vatican, the rules are more about attire than body art. Modesty in clothing is expected, with guidelines requiring pants, shorts, or skirts that reach at least the knees and shirts that cover shoulders and upper arms. While these rules don't explicitly mention tattoos, many visitors choose to cover their ink out of respect for the sacred environment of St. Peter's Square and Basilica.

In essence, the Vatican's approach to tattoos is nuanced. It recognizes the cultural and personal significance of tattoos while also upholding a standard of reverence within its walls. For Catholics and non-Catholics alike, this stance offers a reminder that tattoos, when chosen thoughtfully, can be a meaningful addition to one's life story, reflecting values, beliefs, and the beauty of personal expression.

As stated, the Church does not prohibit explicitly tattoos nor endorses them. Pope Francis' new stance seems to indicate that he is against them now and is following Leviticus 19:28 because nothing has changed. Paganism still exists and man still worships different idols today.  Tattoos harm the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, yet they can "decorate" it if done properly.  Hopefully, the Church will clarify this issue once and for all in the near future.

We at Sacerdotus agree with this stance.  Tattoos are not professional and convey the wrong message to others even if the images are religious.

Fall of Pride: Not a 'Gay' Day

Proverbs 16:18 says that pride comes before the fall or destruction. These words are deep, and it seems they took to reality during Pride NYC on June 30, 2024.  Gay Pride is an event rooted in New York City and Gay history. It is meant to be a "uniting" force where "diversity" is celebrated as one. However, it was not the case this time around without excluding previous issues in the past.  First, the parade was interrupted by pro-Hamas protesters, then some brawls took place related to the parade and an act of God forced the cancelation of the rest of the event. It was a huge rainbow dumpster fire.

The recent events at Washington Square Park in New York City have brought to light the complex dynamics of public spaces and the challenges of maintaining safety during large gatherings. On June 30, 2024, what was meant to be a celebration of Pride Month ended in a series of unfortunate incidents, as multiple brawls broke out among the attendees. Whether it was the heat or sexual frustration, there was a lot of emotion and energy that triggered brawls at Pride NYC.  First, let us briefly introduce what this event is.

What is Pride?

The history of NYC Pride is a tapestry of struggle, celebration, and community that has evolved significantly over the years. It all began with the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, a pivotal moment in LGBTQIA+ history. In the early hours of June 28, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a bar in Greenwich Village, New York, which was a safe haven for the city's gay community. This time, however, the patrons fought back, leading to several days of demonstrations and clashes with law enforcement.

The following year, on June 28, 1970, the first Gay Pride March, then known as Christopher Street Liberation Day, was held to commemorate the Stonewall Riots. This march set the precedent for Pride parades not only in New York City but around the world. The event was a powerful statement against discrimination and a public display of unity for the LGBTQIA+ rights movement.

In 1973, one of the early victories for the movement was achieved when the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from the DSM-II, its manual of mental disorders, recognizing that being gay is not a mental illness. This was a significant step forward in changing public perceptions and reducing stigma.  Note that the removal of homosexuality from the DSM-II was not based on scientific empirical studies, but due to political pressure and social engineering efforts. In the last decade or so, it was discovered that there is no "gay gene." Homosexuality is not rooted in biology or genetics, therefore, scholars in the 1970s had no way to verify whether it was natural or not from a physiological point.

The 1980s brought the devastating AIDS epidemic, which had a profound impact on the gay community. NYC Pride became a platform to raise awareness about AIDS and to remember those who had been lost to the disease. The community rallied together, showing incredible resilience in the face of this crisis.

Heritage of Pride, the organization that now plans and produces New York City's official LGBTQIA+ Pride events, was founded in 1984. It took over from the Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee, ensuring that the legacy of Stonewall and the fight for equality continued to be honored each year.

The NYC Pride March has grown exponentially over the years, becoming one of the largest and most well-known Pride events in the world. It attracts millions of participants and spectators who gather to celebrate diversity, progress, and the ongoing pursuit of equal rights.

The march itself is a vibrant display of activism, remembrance, and joy. It serves as a reminder of the challenges the LGBTQIA+ community has faced and the victories it has achieved. It's a time to reflect on the past, empower individuals, and unite for a future where everyone can live openly and authentically.

NYC Pride is not just a march; it's a series of events that include rallies, parties, lectures, and cultural activities that take place throughout June, known as Pride Month. These events provide a space for connection, education, and celebration. Each borough in NYC has its "pride" event which leads to the major even at the Pride March. As NYC Pride continues to evolve, it remains a symbol of hope, a beacon of inclusivity, and a testament to the power of the gay community. It's a celebration that honors the past, energizes the present, and inspires the future of the LGBTQIA+ movement. However, things are not looking so good now.

The altercations, which included fistfights and hair-pulling, resulted in several arrests and left many concerned about the underlying tensions that led to such chaos. The New York City Police Department reported that 15 individuals were taken into custody for various charges, including assault and disorderly conduct. One man was even shot and taken to a local hospital. The violence stretched on for hours, with videos circulating online showing the mayhem that unfolded.

Here are some of the videos posted on X (formerly Twitter):

Such events raise questions about the role of law enforcement, the responsibilities of event organizers, and the actions of individuals in ensuring that public celebrations do not escalate into violence. It also underscores the importance of community engagement and proactive measures to prevent similar situations in the future.

Washington Square Park, known for its vibrant atmosphere and historical significance, is a symbol of the diverse and dynamic nature of New York City. It is a place where people from all walks of life come together to enjoy the freedom of expression and the joy of community. However, this incident serves as a reminder that with the privilege of such a space comes the duty to respect one another and the law.

As the city reflects on these events, it is crucial to engage in a dialogue about how to better safeguard our public spaces and ensure that they remain welcoming and inclusive for all. The spirit of Pride is presented as one of acceptance and celebration of diversity, and it is vital that this spirit is not overshadowed by acts of violence if the gay community wishes to remain respectable to the rest of society.

The community, along with local authorities, must work together to address the issues that contribute to such disturbances. This includes examining the adequacy of security measures, the need for more effective crowd control strategies, and the importance of fostering a culture of non-violence and mutual respect.  This is in fact the symbolism behind the "Pride" flag. It is suppose to show diversity of different subcultures within the gay community but as one cloth, so to speak.

New York City's Pride celebrations are billed as a testament to the progress made in the fight for LGBTQ rights and the ongoing struggle for equality. It is imperative that the city continues to uphold these values and ensure that every individual feels safe and valued, not just during Pride Month, but throughout the year.

Not only were there issues a Washington Square park, but the recent Pride parade in New York City, a vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms, was marked by an unexpected interruption. A group of protestors advocating for Palestinian rights chose this high-profile event to make their voices heard, leading to a clash of causes on the streets of Greenwich Village.

The incident unfolded as the parade approached the iconic Christopher Street, near the historic Stonewall Inn, a symbol of queer activism and liberation. The protestors, bearing messages of solidarity with Palestine, disrupted the procession, leading to a temporary halt of the festivities. Their actions included splattering red paint on the parade route, on revelers and a float, symbolizing their protest against what they perceive as the pinkwashing of the Palestinian struggle by certain organizations participating in the parade.

This act of civil disobedience brings to light the complex interplay between different social justice movements. The protestors' message was clear: there can be no true liberation for one community if it comes at the expense of another. They challenged the attendees and organizers of Pride to consider the broader implications of their alliances and sponsorships, highlighting the intersectionality of human rights issues.

The New York Police Department responded to the situation by taking several individuals into custody, a move that sparked further debate about the appropriate balance between protest and celebration, and the rights of individuals to express dissenting views during public events.

The Pride parade, which has long been a platform for not only celebration but also for political action and advocacy, once again proved to be a space where critical conversations about inclusivity, solidarity, and justice were brought to the forefront. As the city reflects on the events of the day, it becomes evident that the path towards true equality and liberation is one that requires continuous dialogue, understanding, and the willingness to listen to diverse voices within the community.

The unfolding events at the NYC Pride parade serve as a reminder of the ongoing struggles faced by various marginalized groups and the importance of solidarity across movements. It underscores the necessity for inclusive platforms that respect and amplify all voices fighting for justice and equality.

In response to the interruption at the NYC Pride parade, the organizers emphasized their commitment to safety and the continuation of the event as planned. They acknowledged the increase in threats and harassment but stated that they would not succumb to fear. The organizers have reportedly enhanced their security protocols and are in close coordination with local and federal authorities to ensure a safe environment for all attendees.

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the intersectionality of social justice movements and the importance of solidarity. The Pride organizers' stance reflects a determination to uphold the spirit of the event while navigating the complexities of diverse political expressions within the community. This approach underscores the ongoing efforts to create inclusive spaces that respect and amplify all voices fighting for justice and equality.

Act of God against NYC Pride: Weathering the Storm

New York City's Pride celebrations are a vibrant and powerful expression of community and solidarity, a tradition that has been observed for over half a century. This year, the city prepared to host its 54th annual Pride March with the theme "Reflect. Empower. Unite." It was canceled during the Covid-19 Coronavirus lockdown but was later restored. However, the festivities faced an unexpected challenge this year 2024: severe weather conditions.

As the weekend approached, forecasts predicted a mix of heat, humidity, and severe storms, with a tornado threat on Saturday and more turbulent weather on Sunday evening. Despite these predictions, the spirit of Pride attempted a resilient stance. The march, a commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising and a demonstration for civil rights stepped off as planned on June 30, 2024, or so they believed.

Tens of thousands gathered, adorning the streets of Manhattan with a kaleidoscope of colors, embodying this year's theme. Grand marshals and community leaders led the way, reflecting on the journey of LGBTQIA+ rights, empowering individuals through visibility, and uniting diverse voices in a collective call for equality and joy.

The march began at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue, near Madison Square Park, winding its way through iconic landmarks such as the Stonewall National Monument and the New York City AIDS Memorial before concluding at 16th Street. Participants and spectators alike braved the sweltering heat, which only seemed to fuel the march's energetic atmosphere.

As the day progressed, the weather took a turn. Dark clouds loomed, and the winds picked up, signaling the onset of the anticipated storms. The march attempted to continued as a testament to the enduring courage and determination of the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies, but nature had other plans. It began to rain and the weather turned for the worse forcing the Gay Pride parade/march to be canceled. The event's organizers, Heritage of Pride, had prepared for such contingencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all attendees, however, these efforts were not enough against Mother Nature.

In past years, rainbows have appeared over NYC during Pride bringing homosexuals to claim God was on "their side," However, the weather at NYC Pride in 2024 shows otherwise. God seemed to have wanted the Gay Pride March to stop.

The NYC Pride March is more than just a parade; it is a symbol of the ongoing struggle for queer liberation and the celebration of the progress made. It is a reminder that, even in the face of adversity—be it discrimination or a storm—the community stands strong, united by a shared history and hope for the future.

As the last floats passed and the crowds began to disperse, the rain started to pour. But the storm did not dampen the spirits of those who marched despite forcing a premature cancelation. Instead, it served as a metaphor for some of the challenges the LGBTQIA+ community has faced and overcome. The rain to some gay participants, like the obstacles of the past, was transient, and the message of Pride remained clear and undiminished.

The NYC Pride March of 2024 will be remembered not only for its jubilant celebration but also for its problems with crowds and planning for things in the face of a storm. However, to some, it is a powerful reminder that when a community comes together, it can weather any storm and emerge stronger and more united than ever. Pride is not just a moment in time; it is a movement for those who support it that continues to push forward, no matter what stands in its way.

As the gay community moves forward, it has to learn from these incidents and strive to create a more harmonious environment where differences are celebrated, and peace is maintained. It is only through collective effort and understanding that they can hope to prevent such occurrences and honor the true meaning of community and Pride.  If not, the events are all for show and perversion.
