Racetrack Pit Crew of Thieves Busted in the Bronx: A Symptom of a Much Larger Crisis

Racetrack Pit Crew of Thieves Busted in the Bronx: A Symptom of a Much Larger Crisis

In a major announcement on April 30, 2026, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and NYPD revealed the takedown of a sophisticated auto theft ring. Dubbed “Operation Pit Crew,” authorities charged at least 16 suspects with 971 criminal counts for stealing cars, tires, rims, and catalytic converters worth over $1.2 million across New York City.

These brazen thieves operated with military-like precision, often in three-person teams. Masked and gloved, they would pull up in a stolen vehicle between midnight and 5 a.m., jack up cars in seconds, and strip tires and rims using power tools—all in a matter of minutes. They targeted Hondas, Toyotas, and similar reliable vehicles popular among working families. The stolen parts were sold on the black market, including via platforms like Facebook Marketplace, with some vehicles shipped overseas. Many of the suspects have alleged ties to the Trinitarios street gang and connections to the Dominican Republic.

This bust is welcome news, but it barely scratches the surface of a massive, ongoing problem in the Bronx and across NYC. Wheel and rim thefts have become an epidemic, leaving countless vehicles stranded on milk crates or blocks overnight. For working people—many of whom are still making monthly payments on their cars—this is devastating. Not only do they lose mobility essential for commuting to jobs, school, or family obligations, but they now face thousands of dollars in repair and restoration costs for new rims, tires, and related damage. Insurance deductibles and rate hikes add further financial strain to families already stretched thin.

These thefts highlight deeper systemic failures, including the role of illegal immigration in fueling certain crime patterns in New York City. While media and officials often focus attention on migrants from Mexico, Venezuela, and Haiti, groups like Dominican-linked Trinitarios operations are frequently downplayed or ignored in public discourse. This selective emphasis leaves communities vulnerable and prevents honest discussions about enforcement and border security.

I have personally written to Bronx DA Darcel Clark, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, President Donald Trump, Mayor Mamdani, Rep. Ritchie Torres, Assemblymember Oswaldo Feliz, Attorney General Letitia James, and Governor Kathy Hochul to raise awareness about this crisis and the lack of adequate response. Too often, NYPD simply closes auto theft cases without thorough investigation, leaving victims without justice or recourse. The silence and inaction from these officials have been disappointing.

This must change. Law enforcement needs the resources, policies, and political backing to prioritize vehicle crimes, deter repeat offenders, and address root causes head-on.

Hopefully, this problem of rim thefts ends for good. People deserve to park their cars at night with peace of mind, knowing they will find them safe and intact in the morning.

One family I know was directly affected by these thefts and is struggling to cover the expensive repairs. If you can help, please consider donating to their GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/9c4940e42

Stay vigilant, secure your vehicles (wheel locks, steering wheel locks, and parking in well-lit areas help), and demand accountability from leaders. Our communities deserve safer streets.

Chaplain Timothy Dolan: Cardinal Dolan Hired by NYPD

Cardinal Timothy Dolan Takes on New Role as Co-Lead of NYPD Chaplains Unit

In a surprising yet fitting development for one of New York City's most prominent religious figures, Cardinal Timothy Dolan has been appointed as co-lead of the New York Police Department's (NYPD) chaplains unit. The announcement, expected from Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, pairs the retired Archbishop of New York with Rev. A.R. Bernard, founder of the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, to guide the department's spiritual support team.

Cardinal Dolan, aged 76, recently concluded over 16 years as head of the Archdiocese of New York, where he was succeeded by Bishop Ronald Hicks. Known for his approachable demeanor, media presence, and ability to bridge divides in a diverse city, Dolan has long been a fixture in New York's public life. His new role, which he will undertake part-time, marks a transition from leading one of the largest Catholic archdioceses in the United States to providing pastoral care directly to the men and women of the nation's largest police force.

The NYPD chaplains unit offers critical spiritual and emotional support to officers, their families, and sometimes victims or community members affected by incidents. Chaplains respond to crises, conduct blessings, offer counseling, and serve as a source of moral guidance in high-stress environments. With Dolan's appointment alongside Rev. Bernard—a respected leader in the Black church community—the unit gains leaders who represent key faith traditions in New York, potentially strengthening trust and outreach across the city's multicultural landscape.

Commissioner Tisch's decision highlights the ongoing need for robust chaplaincy services amid the challenges police officers face daily, from routine patrols to major emergencies. Sources describe Dolan and Bernard as "two of the most righteous people this city has ever known," praising their faith, compassion, and wisdom as qualities officers rely on in difficult moments.

This move comes at a time when Dolan, no longer bound by full-time archdiocesan duties, can dedicate his energies to hands-on ministry. His familiarity with first responders—built through years of attending memorials, blessings, and community events—positions him well for this service-oriented role. For many, it's a natural extension of his pastoral heart, now channeled toward those who protect and serve.

As New York continues to navigate complex social issues, having figures like Cardinal Dolan in supportive roles for law enforcement could foster greater dialogue between police and faith communities. The official installation is set to proceed soon, marking an exciting new chapter for both the cardinal and the NYPD.

NYPD Female Cop Punched IN Face By Repeat Offender

The recent incident involving a female NYPD officer being assaulted is a sobering reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily. The officer, while intervening in a dispute, was punched in the face by a repeat offender, resulting in facial injuries and a trip to the hospital. This event has sparked discussions about the safety of police officers and the consequences for those who assault law enforcement personnel.

Assaults on police officers are not only a crime against the individuals but also an attack on the rule of law within society. These acts can have far-reaching implications, affecting not just the officers and their families but also the communities they serve. The NYPD, like other law enforcement agencies, trains its officers to handle a variety of situations with the utmost professionalism, but confrontations with violent individuals pose unpredictable dangers.

The suspect in this case, who has a history of similar offenses, now faces charges that reflect the seriousness of the assault on a police officer. The Police Benevolent Association has expressed relief that the officer is recovering but emphasizes the need for a justice system that supports law enforcement and ensures that offenders face appropriate consequences.

This incident also highlights the broader issue of how society deals with repeat offenders and the importance of supporting law enforcement in their efforts to maintain public safety. It's a complex challenge that requires a balanced approach, respecting the rights of individuals while also protecting those who put themselves in harm's way to uphold the law.

The suspect involved in the assault on the NYPD officer has been charged with assault on a police officer, attempted assault, menacing a police officer, and criminal possession of a weapon. These charges reflect the severity of the attack and the potential threat it posed to the officer and public safety. Assault on a police officer is a serious offense that carries significant legal consequences, underscoring the gravity of such actions against law enforcement personnel.

Unfortunately, some on social media were quick to attack female officers rather than the repeat offender. This has been a trend among conservative right-wing subscribers who have had a misogynistic view ever since the assassination attempt against former president Donald J. Trump. They criticized the presence of female Secret Service agents and their performance during the assassination attempt.

Despite male cops often being on the receiving end of perpetrators, these people seem to think women are inferior, weak or incapable of doing the same police work as their male counterparts.

NYPD Storms Hamilton Hall

In a recent turn of events, the NYPD took decisive action at Columbia University's Hamilton Hall. This response came after a series of protests that escalated to the occupation of the university building. The NYPD's intervention led to over 100 arrests, but it was reported that there were few injuries during the operation.

The situation at Columbia University is a complex one, involving the delicate balance between the right to protest and maintaining public order. The protests, which were initially sparked by anti-Israel sentiments, had reportedly turned into an occupation of Hamilton Hall, leading to the university's decision to request police intervention.

The NYPD's approach was tactical and aimed at minimizing confrontation. Officers in riot gear used a Mobile Adjustable Ramp System to enter the building through a second-floor window, a strategy that underscores the challenges law enforcement faces when dealing with such situations.

This incident raises important questions about the nature of protest, the role of law enforcement, and the responsibilities of educational institutions in handling dissent. It also highlights the need for dialogue and understanding in resolving conflicts that arise within a community.

Illegal Migrants Attack Cops Again But at Randall's Island

In a chaotic scene that unfolded at the increasingly lawless Randall’s Island tent city, one person was arrested after a dramatic caught-on-video confrontation between NYPD officers and migrants. The incident occurred when an unnamed individual, who was not supposed to be at the facility, was asked to leave by officials. The exact reason for their presence or what led up to the scuffle remains unclear.

The situation escalated rapidly, with separate cameras capturing different angles of the violent clash. On the video, we can see a group of cops attempting to restrain and arrest a male individual as illegal migrants shout at cops and throw objects. They threw what looked like cooler bags, cups, and other dinnerware. Cots and other furniture were thrown about in the scuffle.  Security from the tent were heard shouting to surround the cops to shield them from the violent and angry mob of illegal migrants.

This incident just came weeks after an incident in Timeswas Square where illegal migrants attacked two cops (see:Sacerdotus: Attack on NYPD Officers in Times Square: No Bail for Suspects Sparks Controversy).  In this situation,  police officers initially demanded that the group disperse on the night of January 27. However, one uniformed officer suddenly grabbed migrant Yohenry Brito as he pushed a baby stroller carrying his belongings. In an audio recording, Brito can be heard referring to the officers in Spanish, saying, “They look like Ugly Betty.” The officer then led Brito against a building wall as other migrants who had been walking away made a U-turn and appeared to inquire about Brito's actions.

As a second cop spoke to the rest of the group, Brito, 24, flailed in an attempt to evade the first officer. Chaos ensued as both cops struggled to detain Brito across a stretch of sidewalk near 42nd Street and 7th Avenue. Other migrants joined the scuffle, attempting to help Brito break free. Some took turns kicking at the officers while they wrestled on the ground with Brito. In one instance, a migrant wiped out when attempting a kick but missed everything and struck only air. Another migrant dressed in all white—identified as Yorman Reveron—pulled and pushed police off of Brito, who had lost his jacket and shirt during the struggle. Reveron then helped Brito to his feet, and they both fled from the scene.

The bodycam footage also revealed the immense struggle between Brito and the two officers as other migrants assaulted police. The incident has sparked outrage and calls for deploying the National Guard. At least 12 suspects were allegedly involved in this attack; six have been arrested, while five were released on bail, leaving some still at large.

This highly publicized case has drawn attention during an election year, with political debates surrounding law enforcement responses and migrant rights. As prosecutors announced seven indictments related to this incident, tensions remain high in New York City.  There is no word about any charges regarding the new incident at Randall's Island.

In any event, American citizens need to wake up and stop voting in officials who are facilitating this invasion of illegal migrants.  The borders need to be closed and these individuals sent back to their countries of origin until a vetting process is set up that will allow legitimate asylum seekers to enter our nation and who are tracked so they will not try to remain here illegally.

Attack on NYPD Officers in Times Square: No Bail for Suspects Sparks Controversy

A recent attack on two NYPD officers in Times Square has ignited outrage and raised questions about the handling of suspects involved. Critics are demanding answers as to why some of the arrested individuals were quickly released back onto the streets without bail.

The Incident

Nearly a week ago, a group of attackers assaulted two police officers in Times Square, resulting in injuries. The incident left many wondering why certain suspects were not held in custody pending trial.

The Bail Decision

The Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, initially avoided addressing why his office did not seek bail for several of the suspects. Some of these individuals have reportedly fled the state since their release. When questioned by NBC New York, Bragg declined to comment on whether not requesting bail was a mistake. Instead, he simply stated, "We'll speak in court."

Public Outcry and Demands for Accountability

The decision not to seek bail has sparked controversy. Critics argue that an assault on police officers should warrant detention. New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her disagreement with the suspects' release and called for their deportation. She emphasized that the issue lies not with weak bail laws but with failing to utilize existing laws effectively.

Behind Closed Doors

Governor Hochul met privately with DA Bragg to discuss the incident. Although Bragg was absent when Hochul emerged for a news conference with other district attorneys from Queens, Brooklyn, and Westchester, she expressed confidence that additional charges would be brought against the attackers.

Clarification from DA Bragg

Hours later, Alvin Bragg held a press conference to clarify his position. He asserted that assaults on police officers would not be tolerated. Bragg watched video footage to identify each suspect's role in the group assault.

The situation remains contentious as authorities grapple with balancing justice and public safety. The decision not to seek bail has drawn scrutiny, and further developments are anticipated as investigations continue.

This story is just mind-boggling.  There was once a time when it was a felony to attack a police officer. How times have changed!  These illegal immigrants attack two cops and then are released. It was said they fled the state of New York to California or Mexico, but this was disproved. A few of them were arrested again for other crimes.  This is just despicable.  The DA claims they did not have enough evidence to keep these thugs in jail, yet we have a clear video of the attack. What more do they need?

Luckily, pressure from fellow liberals brought the DA to charge these thugs and issue arrest warrants. They are now going to face justice and will hopefully be deported and barred from reentering the country. It is a bad time to be an NYPD officer now with these politicians in power. The Bail Reform law has empowered criminals to do this. The open borders and lawlessness there have empowered these ungrateful illegal immigrants to come here and commit crimes believing they will get scott-free.  Elections have consequences. New Yorkers and other "sanctuary cities" need to wake up. We cannot continue on this path.

The Federal Government must also secure the border and vet whoever wants to enter this country legally. We cannot have people storming the border like a horde of zombies or walkers from the Walking Dead franchise. These thugs who attacked the NYPD officers are said to be members of gangs in South and Central America.  These are the people we are letting into our nation.

Former Art Professor Shellyne Rodriguez Arrested on Charges of Harassment & Menacing.

Disgraced former Art Professor Shellyne Rodriguez who is now known as the "unhinged professor" or "Nutty Professor" was arrested today after 11:00 AM at the 43rd precinct after surrendering to the NYPD. She is being charged with harassment and menacing one count each in the 2nd degree. If you have not been up to date on this story see these previous blog posts: https://www.sacerdotus.com/2023/05/triggered-art-professor-shellyne.html https://www.sacerdotus.com/2023/05/disgraced-adjunct-professor-shellyne.html Ironically, Rodriguez was arrested on the third anniversary of the death of George Floyd. She took part in the riots in 2020 shortly before the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic shut New York City down. As you may know, the riots happened after the news of Floyd's death at the hands, or I should say, the knee of the police.  Here are videos from these riots from amateur journalist Elad Liahu who also had a nasty run-in with Rodriguez.

The NY Post describes today's arrest in this manner, "A smirking Shellyne Rodriguez, 45, held her head high as she was escorted out of the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx in handcuffs just after 11 a.m. — several hours after turning herself in over Tuesday’s caught-on-camera ordeal. The professor had her slew of tattoos on full display, including 'FTP' (for 'F–k the police') inked on her fingers, as well as an image of brass knuckles and the boxing term “southpaw” scrawled across her hand. Earlier, Rodriguez had worn black sunglasses and was flanked by a handful of supporters as she walked into the precinct to surrender to cops."

It is not known who these supporters were who accompanied her. They may be some of her students or members of the Take Back the Bronx activist group she is part of. In a video, Rodriguez is seen smirking and blowing kisses with her lips at reporters. She was hauled to the Bronx Criminal Courthouse for arraignment. The judge released her on her own recognizance. She later walked with some of the half dozen supporters present with her to eat a the local Burger King at the mall across the street of the courthouse on 161st Street in the Bronx.

Moreover, after circulating a petition in support of Shellyne Rodriguez, the union that represents employees as CUNY, the PSC has backtracked and removed the petition from their website. Rodriguez identifies as a "black Marxist" despite being of Puerto Rican descent. I know her personally, as well as her sister, aunt, and other members. We grew up in the same building and she returned to help some of the tenants there form a tenant association. I assisted her in writing a letter demanding the use of a community room which is a legal right for tenants. I studied paralegal, so I am familiar with the law and legalese.

While I do not condone her behavior and have confronted her before on the need for police, we must note how her "people" have not come to her defense. Where are Black Lives Matter, the Palestinians, Feminists, Pro-abortion, and LGBT crowd at?  She dedicates her life to these people and their agendas, but none came to support her. Even the liberal-progressive CUNY, namely Hunter College and the PSC abandoned her.  This seems to be the story of Puerto Ricans. They help other groups and are often left out and ignored.  Again, I am not defending her or her actions, but am simply pointing out this disparity.

I do not know if she is a member of the LGBT community, but if she is, we can see why she can be abrasive and aggressive. Members of this community, as well as, females in general tend to be a bit more aggressive when confronting opposition. This is possible because their voices and presence have been small for centuries, so they have to be "loud," so to speak, in order to bring attention.  I tried to reach out to her, but have not heard from her.

Please pray for her that she gets her life together and hopefully leaves behind this radicalization she has received which is ruining her reputation and career. It is just not worth it.  Sometimes we can just agree to disagree and fight the real battles, not nonsensical political ones.

Nation of Islam Scam Artist 'Brother Khalil Abdul Muhammad' Arrested

As if losing a son is not enough, Leandra Guzman-Feliz, the mother of Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz is facing scam artists. The young fifteen year old boy who was killed over a month ago in the Belmont Section of the Bronx is once again in the spotlight. After his murderers were all caught, the family is facing problems with people trying to scam them. A Nation of Islam member who goes by the name "Brother Brother Khalil Abdul Muhammad" and whose real name is Kenny Young was accused on Monday of starting a fraudulent foundation.  He has been seen next to the family nearly at the onset of the murder.  The foundation is named "Justice for Junior Foundation." It has its own website, Instagram, Facebook, You Tube and Twitter accounts.  The foundation claims to represent the late teen boy and the cause for justice, but it was never authorized by the parents.

In fact, as the mother of Junior spoke to WPIX reporters, we can see Khalil Abdul Muhammad approach her and interject as she is questioned about fake foundations.  He claims that he would make a statement on the foundation and that the mom supports it.  She interrupts him and says that she never gave permission and would have to review papers with her lawyers. Muhammad looks visibly nervous on the video when questioned by reporters.  The website he started had a donate button which was later removed after WPIX aired the report.

The family and supporters have been posting on social media that this man is a scam artist. They also posted images of others who have been profiting over the death of Junior.  Just today, Muhammad was spotted near the bodega where Junior was killed as it reopened under new ownership. He is not wearing his suit this time, but instead has on a track suit and baseball cap.  According to Instagram postings, he and Junior supporters got into an argument and he was arrested.

The news is troubling due to the fact that the family has to be victimized again by opportunists seeking to profit and seek self-promotion at the expense of the pain and suffering of others.  At first, I thought this man was a detective with the NYPD.  However, after I saw him at the funeral home and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, I figured out that he was part of the Nation of Islam cult.  In fact, at the funeral home, he and other black men in suits and bow ties were blocking me and Protestant ministers present from approaching the family and the casket of Junior.  A friend who escorted me in the home took me to them directly bypassing these Nation of Islam soldiers. At the parish during the memorial vigil, Muhammad and another black man sat in front of me and two NY diocesan priests.  Fr. Jonathan Morris, the pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel welcomed them.

Please do not donate to any foundation or group claiming to represent Junior, his family or the Justice for Junior moment. The family has made it clear that they have not authorized any foundations or groups.  Please report any such foundations or groups to social media, the police and FBI.

NYPD Explorer 15 Year old Lesandro Guzman Feliz Killed in the Bronx

Many of you know that I am from the Bronx. I was born in Manhattan, but spent most of my younger days in the Bronx. The Bronx is known for many things.  Unfortunately, violence is one of those things. Despite claims from the NYPD and Mayor Di Blasio that crime is on the decline, things in reality seem different.

A young boy of 15 years of age was brutally attacked on Bathgate Avenue and 183rd Street in my beloved borough. He was chased by 5 thugs who had machetes and knives as weapons. The thugs are grown men taller than the young 15 year old.

UPDATE

These cowards chased the boy into a bodega after stabbing him. The young boy tried desperately to hide behind the counter of the bodega and was removed by the workers. Immediately, his attackers apprehended him and dragged him out of the bodega. Bodega workers looked on and allowed this. One even gestured with his hands "get out." Outside, cameras captured the cowards beat, stop, hack at and stab the young boy.  They ran off like the cowards that they are into cars and sped off.  The young boy was left there bruised and bloodied. He tries to enter the bodega for help and the door is shut on him. He tries on more time to show his valor by making gestures at his attackers which want looked like mangled arms and hands, possibly from the hacking of the machete. The young boy immediately realizes he is in trouble physically and seems to remember that St. Barnabas Hospital is nearby.  He makes a run for it crossing the street.  Unfortunately, due to loss of a lot of blood, the young boy collapses in front of the hospitals.  People look on him. Instead of helping him stop the bleeding, the take out their cell phones and record.  He succumbs to his injuries leaving loved ones and now a nation in heart break.

The news has spread globally and has brought about outrage. According to police, the boy was mistaken for another boy who posted a sex video of the cousin of one of the attackers. To add insult to injury, the attackers gloated on social media about the attack.  Eventually, some actually messaged the brother in-law of the young boy apologizing and stating that they got the wrong guy.  This and the many tips called in to the police led to the arrest of 7 individuals.  An 8th is in the Dominican Republic and is cooperating with the police.

This tragedy has touched many, including myself. The young boy's name is Lesandro Guzman Feliz, also known as Junior. He was not involved in gangs. In fact, he was part of the NYPD Explorer's program, a program geared towards teaching kids about law enforcement. My nephew participated in the program. As the saying, the world is small. I came into contact with Lesandro at the precinct when I was in the Bronx and went to pick up my nephew. When I saw his face on the news, I knew I had seen it somewhere before.  The news is just depressing. Young Lesandro wanted to be a detective and had his whole life ahead of him.

Many have flocked to the bodega and made a make-shift memorial. Hundreds of candles, plush toys and other things now gather at the site. Bodega managers claim that they were threatened by the cowards who attacked Lesandro, however, new video shows that they actually gave Lesandro up to them as he tried to hide behind the counter of the bodega. It is just heartbreaking to watch the videos posted all over social media.  The face of Lesandro as he is being dragged outside is very telling of how terrified he was. Just seeing it breaks my heart. I am not a very emotional person, but this tragedy has taken sleep away from it.  To see this young boy slaughtered in a way that not even cattle or sheep are slaughtered is disturbing.  What has society come to?

Thousands have come to the make-shift memorial to pray and show support for the family and Lesandro.  Many more are expected at his wake on Monday and Tuesday at Ortiz Funeral home on 149th Street in the south Bronx.

A petition has garnered over 50,000 signatures calling for the shutting down of the bodega that did not offer shelter to young Lesandro. I urge people to boycott is and sign it as well. What the workers did was truly inhumane.

I want to offer my condolences to the family of Junior. This story is truly heartbreaking and has touched Bronxites and everyone who has heard of it.  We must end this violence. Our own Catholic Church has failed to reach out to the young people on the peripherals. We cater to the youth already in our pews but forget there are many outside of the Church who need guidance. We do not go out to them and invite them. I have tried to do this during my time doing ministry in the Bronx and have been successful. However, others need to do the same.  When good is not around for the youth, evil is always ready to invite them.

Young Lesandro was killed over mistaken identity. He was killed because of teens having premarital sex and recording it on social media as if sex is some sort of pastime. Again, we have failed to teach our youth to respect themselves and life.

I am so sorry Lesandro that you face this evil.  If I were there, I would have helped you!  Rest in peace Junior!

Erica Garner dies at 27

Black Lives Matter activist Erica Garner passed away today after suffering an asthma and heart attack which left her in a coma. She was the daughter of Eric Garner who was killed when a police officer placed a choke hold on him causing him to suffocate and get a heart attack.  The officer was later acquited which led to Garner's daughter becoming an activist against police brutality.  Many were shocked at her death including former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. He took to Twitter to offer his condolences.  Others were not so humane. Many from the alt-right movement posted hateful and even celebratory comments after learning of the death of the Black Lives Matter activist.

Regardless of her views, she was a human being who tried to do the right thing after her father was killed. May she rest in peace.

Bomb in Times Square Subway

As people headed to work and school in Time Square a bomb went off. At first, the NYPD thought it was gunfire. However, it turned out to be a pipe bomb. Akayed Ullah, 27 from Bangladesh was apprehended at the scene. At first, news outlets reported that there was one male injured. It turned out that the injured man was the one responsible for the attack. Ullah planned the attack for over a year according to investigators. He was upset at the Christmas displays in the area and wanted to carry out a suicide bombing attack similar to that which occurs in Israel. Thank God, the pipe bomb was not well assembled and exploded prematurely and without the force needed to really cause carnage.

This attack has everyone on edge because it is the first suicide bombing in the United States. For many decades, officials have worried about such an attack taking place in the nation especially in a place like Manhattan. It is virtually impossible to detect someone wearing a bomb who can board a bus or train. The response to such an attack would be reactive and not proactive. Ullah had a vest on with another pipe bomb attached. Videos show him walking in a tunnel at the bus terminal as the bomb went off startling people nearby who ran for their lives afterward. Miraculously no one was seriously injured. Five people had minor cuts. The assailant suffered a laceration on the thigh.  He was radicalized by ISIS propaganda and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.  While there, he mock Trump by stating that Trump could not protect his own nation.

NYC mayor Di Blasio and governor Cuomo reassured New Yorkers that they are safe and gave the tired saying that nothing scares New Yorker. The attack comes just shy of six weeks when Manhattan was attacked by a terrorist on Halloween who ran over several people using a rented truck.

NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia Shot & Killed

It has happened again. An NYPD officer was ambushed while sitting in a mobile command center truck on Creston Avenue and 183rd Street. I know the area well. A cousin of mine used to live nearby and a friend from St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish also lives on the block. The area is known for heavy crime, shootings and drug activity. This was why the command center truck was parked there monitoring things. Police Officer Miosotis Familia, 48 and of Dominican descent was sitting with her partner doing her job on the Fourth of July during late night hours. At around 12:30 a.m., she was ambushed and shot in the head via the window of the truck's door. The attack was not preventable.

It just came out of nowhere and unprovoked. The attacker was Alexander Bonds, 34 and on parole. Witnesses say that he walked out of a bodega and shot the officer for no apparent reason. A motive is still being investigated and most likely has to do with hatred for law enforcement. Her police partner can be heard on radio records panicking as she shouted for help. The ordeal must have been overwhelming. Almost immediately, nearby officers tracked Bonds. He pulled out the weapon he used to assasinate Familia, but the officers shot and killed him. One innocent bystander was struck by a bullet. It is not sure if the bullets was from Bonds' weapon or the NYPD responding officers. The bystander was shot in the stomach and was taken to the hospital. A silver revolver was found at the scene after Bonds was shot dead.  According to Infowars, Bonds was a Clinton supporter and hated cops.

Officer Familia was rushed to St. Barnabad Hospital, a hospital I also know well. I used to visit patients there and helped the late Monsignor McGarry who was the chaplain. My mother also worked there. It is the main trauma center in the Bronx. However, the talents of the medical staff was not enough to help Officer Familia. She succumbed to her head shot would and was later transported to Bellevue Hospital which is the place I was born. The news is heartbreaking. Familia leaves behind three children. Two twins and and older daughter. The NYPD is once again in morning. It seems that this is starting to become a pattern. In the past few years, officers have been gunned down in NYC. See these old posts:

The Black Lives matter propaganda seems to be the main culprit from inspiring hate against police officers nationwide. I have friends from high school who are officers and worry about them constantly. Moreover, my nephew participated in the NYPD explorers program and got to know officers personally. News of officers being shot and killed is heartbreaking. I cannot imagine how Familia's children and family must feel right now. Imagine celebrating the Fourth of July with your mother and then hours later learning that she is dead. It is just sad. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and the NYPd family. This will be a hard time for everyone. The judicial system must do better and not let criminals out so fast. They tend to repeat their crimes.

I am not sure if a Gofundme page has been set up to help Familia's family. If I find out anything, I will update this page.  In the mean time, I recommend contacting the PBA to inquire about donations:
