Republican Todd Akin is facing heat from all sides of the political isle after stating that, "legitimately raped women don't get pregnant because the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down."
I beg your pardon?
- First: What is "legitimately raped?" All rape is illegitimate. Rape is a crime and is immoral.
- Second: The human female body does not have any mechanism that prevents pregnancy when raped.
Akin is completely out of touch with common sense and medicine. He claims to have misspoken, but how can one use the misspoken defense after repeating a gaffe right after another?
I do agree with him that the punishment should be on the rapist, not the unborn child. Nevertheless, his "legitimately raped" and "anti-rape female body mechanism" comments are disturbing.

Strange that my comment disappeared.
