Josh Duggar Cheated on "Ashley Madison"

Fallen reality tv star Josh Duggar is in the news once again.  No, he did not molest any minor (that we know of) again. Rumors circulated online that he was one of the clients of "Ashley Madison," a site for people to commit adultery discreetly.  The site was hacked a few months ago and the hackers that did it threatened to release the information.

They did, and emails, addresses and payments linking to Josh Duggar were found.  Many online jumped to attack Josh Duggar and his "family values" including the has-been former talk show host Montel Williams who described conservative Christians such as the Duggars as "freaks" and who became defensive with me when I questioned his tweet (see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2015/08/montel-attacks-christians-sacerdotus.html). I had to shut down this fool and remind him about semantics.

Well, Josh finally admitted that he did in fact committed adultery against his wife and is a porn addict.  In a statement, he said:

"I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife.
I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.
I brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions that happened when I was 14-15 years old, and now I have re-broken their trust.
The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country, I was hiding my own personal failings.
As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example.
I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time."

Josh was part of the Family Research Council and spoke strongly against adulterers, divorce, same-sex marriage, gays and abortion. He considered these an affront to the family.  However, he clearly was hurting the family as an institution; first as a minor by touching his sisters and babysitter inappropriately and second by cheating on his wife.  Rumors are now circulating that he may have used a fake Facebook profile to cheat as well.

This is unfortunately indeed.  However, it is not new. A recent survey (Barna Group) supplemented previous studies showing that Christians (Protestant) have high levels of addiction to pornography. Some speculate that the heavy restrictions due to fundamentalist Puritanistic views take a toll on the psychological well-being of Protestant Christians. This is not a critique of the Christian faith, but rather how it is lived by these Christians.

We must pray for Josh and his family.  He has brought a lot of shame to his family and they must be going through a lot of pain right now especially his wife and children. We must forgive him and ask God to give him the grace to fight his inner demons.  He is clearly mentally disturbed and needs to seek both professional and spiritual help.

  1. The Ashley Madison website owners had this to say:

“This event is not an act of hacktivism, it is an act of criminality,” a statement from the website read.

“It is an illegal action against the individual members of AshleyMadison.com, as well as any freethinking people who choose to engage in fully lawful online activities.

“The criminal, or criminals, involved in this act have appointed themselves as the moral judge, juror, and executioner, seeing fit to impose a personal notion of virtue on all of society.

“We will not sit idly by and allow these thieves to force their personal ideology on citizens around the world. We are continuing to fully cooperate with law enforcement to seek to hold the guilty parties accountable to the strictest measures of the law.”

I draw your attention to the 3rd & 4th paragraphs. So now this personal notion of virtue i.e. not being an adulterer, being faithful in your marriage and/or relationship is an ideology that (by implication) is not something the rest of society want as an ideology and is a "personal notion of virtue".

Surely we are now facing the decline of virtue as most have held for time immemorial. Now, it would seem, vices are the new virtue to be upheld and all the old virtues are to be derided.

Here is a summary of virtues that are no longer acceptable in today's western society it would seem.

1.) Marriage, faithful, between one man and one woman
    - we have divorce on demand
    - we have the definition changed to include same sex
    (not in Australia yet)
    - single parent families
    - De Facto relationships
    - Children not knowing their parents
    (surrogacy, ivf sperm donors)
    - Increased youth suicide
    - male & female knowledge not passed on to children. Things
such as mechanical knowledge, cooking knowledge,
    emotional knowledge, reasoning knowledge etc

    2.) Abortion on demand

3.) God abused and moves to silence anyone who has such
    fanciful ideas about him

4.) bigotry only applicable to dissenters of the new morality

5.) Old virtues derided and new virtues lauded

6.) Personal moral responsibility no longer accepted
    (the victim card always played)

How far the apple has fallen from the tree. Modern man has the audacity to say Catholics are foolish people, bigots and hypocrites yet these same people have made a mockery of anything that is virtuous. They have forced their selfish wants onto a society and demanded that society accept them out of fear and bullying. They mock morality because of their own immorality. They need this acceptance from the whole of society and they need to force people to accept this immorality. They care very little for the long term consequences to society. Their lusts and self centered wants are driving this new morality and they care very little for the society and it's people. They care about only themselves.

Good men and women fought and died to give the west a society that had moral backbone. The fought and died for nothing if today's moral relativism becomes the ruling ideology.

    1. Unfortunately, that is the world that we live in. Morality can be anything which is bringing forth strange and dangerous ideas and behaviors.
