Jamie Hubley - People said “It gets better”. Its f***ing bull****

A young 15 year old named Jamie Hubley from Ottawa, Canada recently committed suicide.  Apparently he cited depression, school, and his homosexuality as reasons.  He wrote on the internet:

"I hate being the only open gay guy in my school… It f***ing sucks, I really want to end it. Like all of it, I not getting better theres 3 more years of highschool left, Iv been on 4 different anti -depressants, none of them worked. I’v been depressed since january, How f***ing long is this going to last. People said “It gets better”. Its f***ing bull****. I go to see psychologist, What the f*** are they suppost to f***ing do? All I do is talk about problems, it doesnt make them dissapear?? I give up."

"Im a casualty of love.Well, Im tired of life really. Its so hard, Im sorry, I cant take it anymore.

The media was quick to claim that this kid was not accepted because of his homosexuality so therefore he was depressed; however, none of his posts quoted state this.

Recently I tweeted on Twitter to some atheists and gays stating that their dishonesty towards young LGBT kids is what adds to this problem of suicide.  The "it gets better" campaign that was spreading around the internet and on tv was an attempt to reassure young LGBT kids that they will be accepted and all will be well.

However, this is a lie.  The truth of the matter is that: It does NOT get better.  Homosexuality is an issue that will not disappear over night.  Religion, culture, family values will always find this lifestyle immoral, unnatural and disordered.  This is in no way homophobia or hate but rather a reflection of the reality behind this lifestyle.  We cannot blame the aforementioned for gay suicides.  It is a destructive lifestyle.  Studies such as in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology found that the LGBT community have more cases of mental illness than any other group.  (http://psychcentral.com/lib/2011/higher-risk-of-mental-health-problems-for-homosexuals/)

We cannot continue to support lifestyles that are unnatural and hurtful to individuals and societies.  We must "hate the sin" and love the sinner, to use the old cliche.  Unfortunately some morally and logically lax  individuals who claim to be rational do not care and just promote this unhealthy lifestyle. It is a misguided compassion that brings more harm than good.  The problem is not solved.  Kids and adults continue to commit suicide.  This young man even wrote it himself on his blog, "People said “It gets better”. Its f***ing bull****."

This young man needed a spiritual life.  Psychology is fine and dandy, but most of it is speculative and experimental.  No one really knows the human mind.  As Jaime wrote: "I go to see psychologist, What the f*** are they suppost to f***ing do? All I do is talk about problems, it doesnt make them dissapear??"  Psychology is not the be all end all.  A spiritual life is needed in order for a human person to be well balanced.  While grace builds on human nature, sin decays human nature.

Unfortunately Canada is going the way of secularism just like the United Kingdom which is suffering from that error today.  When man focuses solely on himself as the end, with all his weaknesses and failings, his work will bear fruit full of weakness and failure in the end.  We are not gods.  We do not know it all.  We cannot solve it all.  We cannot even cure the common cold.  We must look to the supernatural.  To God, the Creator.  Who else knows the human race than the one who designed it and keeps it in existence?

As Psalm 147:3 says:

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

We must pray and trust God.

I pray for the soul of young Jamie who despite being gay was still an innocent child of God.  I pray for all those people whether gay or not who are depressed, feel alone and despised.  God please be with them.  Show them they are not alone, worthless or despised.  Give them inner peace and serenity.  Amen
