Bishop Pates of the Committee of International Justice and Peace which is part of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked all bishops and their respective dioceses to pray for all Christians in Iraq on August 17, 2014. He is calling this to be a day of prayer for peace. He cited the hardships Christians have faced from ISIS as the main reason.
Christians in Iraq have been displaced by Islamists and many have been killed in the name of religious genocide. Their homes and businesses have been looted and burned to the ground. Churches and other properties have been desecrated.
Please spread the word around so we can get the news of this day of prayer out there quickly. I invite my brothers and sisters to pray and fast on August 17.
If you can, try to tweet the hashtags:

on Twitter, Facebook and other social media in order to garner attention and get even more to participate.
