According to some news reports which I have not confirmed, the Pope got a warning from Vatican doctors regarding his weight. Vatican doctors apparently told the Pope to lose weight, exercise and lay off the pasta. To my knowledge, the Vatican has not confirmed whether or not this is true. CNN was accused in the past of fat-shaming the Pontiff. Moreover, doctors and patients usually have a confidentiality relationship. That being said, I find it strange that any Vatican doctor would present the Pope's diagnosis on any health issue publicly.
Cardinal Dolan made light of the news and told the Pope while on the TODAY show to "get a new doctor."
Being overweight or obese is not something to take lightly, no offense to the Cardinal. It harms a person's overall health and brings about an increased openness to many health problems, especially heart disease and diabetes.
