Boston Bomber Guilty

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 21 who along with his brother Tamerlan, 26 terrorized Boston in 2013 was found guilty of all 30 counts charged against him.  The courtroom was silent as the verdict was read one by one which lasted 25 minutes.  Tsarnaev had no expression and made little eye contact with the jury. The penalty phase is now underway which may bring the death penalty to Dezhokhar Tsarnaev.

Victims and Bostonians waited two years for this verdict. After suffering the loss of four lives and the many injuries have others endured, the verdict brings some closure. Lawyers for Tsarnaev, while admitting he was guilty, tried to place the blame on his older brother Tamerlan.  They claimed that Tamerlan brainwashed his impressional young brother into joining him in the attack.  Both attended the Boston marathon with backpacks containing pressure cookers.  In these pressure cookers were sharp metallic objects and other substances that would trigger an explosion. The explosion would cause damage not only from the blast, but from the shrapnel that would burst from it.

After the attack, many people provided photos of the marathon along with descriptions of the suspects. All this information led to the quick identification of the Tsarnaev brothers. Once both learned they were being sought by the authorities, they began to flee which started perhaps the biggest manhunt in Boston's history. Tamerlan was shot dead by police while his younger brother, Dzhokhar who was 19 at the time fled. The manhunt was televised on every network nearly for a whole day. 19-year-old Dzhokhar was apprehended at 67 Franklin st in Watertown, MA.  He was found in a boat injured and bloody.  The homeowner noticed the tarp on the boat was torn and went to investigate.  He found a man all bloody in the boat which turned out to be Dzhokar.  Dzhokhar was alive and had gunshots to the neck and leg.

My prayers go to all involved including these brothers. As Christians, we are called to forgive no matter the sin or crime done to us. I personally do not believe the death penalty will serve any good in this case. Perhaps a life sentence will allow Dzhokar to recall his actions and how he wasted his young life all for nothing.
