Atheist Blogger Libresco Converts to Catholicism
As a former Atheist, I know very well how hard it is to accept "belief." God and Religion are topics that to a non believer come off as awkward, irrational, and even stupid.
How can anyone in today's world believe that there is some invisible being around us who created everything? How can we believe in a being that is all powerful, all good, who grants free will, yet allows evil and destruction? Why is this being hiding, yet wants us to follow mandates? God is a big contradiction it seems.
Moreover, how can there be a God if we all know through Physics that energy is eternal and the universe began from a "Big bang."
Religion is similar. It is often labeled as a mind controlling unconscious agent which keeps people from progressing socially and intellectually. Religion is also often accused of promoting violence and hate. Its ideas when compared against Science seem to be too incredulous to even keep in existence. They are "superstitious" it seems.
Nevertheless, even the most brightest of minds accepts God and religion. Those who at first did not, eventually do so after comprehending what God and religion are when the filter of skepticism and Atheism is set aside and the brain is allowed to digest them in an objective manner.
Blogger Leah Libresco, a well known and intelligent blogger on the Atheist channel of Patheos recently announced that she is converting to Catholicism. She as an Atheist struggled believing in God. I know the feeling very well because I too had struggled to accept God, Faith and religion. Eventually after much studying and contemplation she realized that Truth and Morality are not objects of man's imaginative mind, but a Person. She hit it right on the nail. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
I am happy for her that she realized this and is pursuing more on the matter by attending RCIA classes which are classes that instruct adults about the Catholic Faith so they can prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation. Let us pray for Leah Libresco that she may continue to grow spiritually and intellectually in the Lord who is the Truth.
One does not need to hold a college degree to learn this Truth. He is alive and ready to come into the mind and heart of whoever is open to Him.
As a former Atheist, I want to give a big welcome home to Leah Libresco. I am glad you are praying the Liturgy of the Hours. Our Lord speaks to us in prayer. I have always stressed this to other Atheists when they ask for proof of God.
Ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you my Atheist friends and He WILL REPLY! Do not be afraid!
