President Trump's Inauguration Day

The day has finally come. Donald John Trump has become the 45th president of the United States of America.  This day could not have come sooner enough.  After eight years of social engineer, restriction of religious freedom, an increase in discord and tension among races and genders, we finally have someone who I think will bring law and order. Obama did some good, but that good was overshadowed by his focus on special interest groups while ignoring the majority of Americans. Donald J. Trump won for this very reason.  Americans had enough of being forgotten.

On a cloudy cool day, many gathered at the mall in Washington DC. Former rivals Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were present. The outgoing president and first lady were visibly uncomfortable.  Michelle had a face of disgust and shade. Other politicians present showed their typical hypocrisy as if they were buddy-buddy with Trump. Then the time came for the swearing in. Cardinal Dolan and other religious representatives offered their benedictions before the swearing in. Using his own Bible and that of Abraham Lincoln, Donald J. Trump was sworn in but Justice Roberts.  Immediately after, Trump gave his inaugural speech. It began to sprinkle on him as if God was blessing Him. Trump then gave a speech which no one has ever heard from by a president. He told the truth. Trump roasted Obama and those politicians present stating that the time has ended where Washington only cared about itself and not the people.  It is time for the power to go back to the people, he stated. The words reminded me of Lincoln's words regarding a nation of the people, by the people and for the people.  The speech reflected a real New Yorker who is blunt and has a no-nonsense personality. I know, I am one ;-)

On Twitter (Trump's favorite medium) the Potus and Flotus accounts immediately switched over to their new owners.

However, not everyone was happy about Trump's swearing in. Some news outlets had posted up comparison photos of Obama's inauguration and Trump's in an attempt to show the disparity in attendance.

The dishonesty was clearly visible. The photo showing a thin crowd was taken prior to the ceremony when people were showing up. Moreover, protesters were blocking people from entering which further delayed the gathering of crowds. Debunking site Snopes clarified the discrepancy. On the topic of protesters, some took to the streets to riot. They broke windows, attacked others, threw rocks and other objects at the police. These people were clearly upset at how the democratic process worked. The same crybabies who protest over anything that disagrees with them caused havoc.

This lady was even crying out like a toddler after the swearing in of Donald J. Trump. It is hilarious and sad at the same time! They even splashed water on those about to participate in the schedule balls.

The immaturity of progressives is so obvious. I myself mocked Lin-Manuel by posting a gif of his ridiculous performance on Saturday Night Live where he said Trump will not be president. Looks like he counted his chicks way too fast:

Outgoing president Obama left on Marine One to Andrews base to board Executive one to California. Many were sad to see him go. Others not so much:

You can see my live Tweets during the day here:

Trump's speech was probably the best one I heard in all the years I have been alive to witness a presidential inauguration. To my knowledge, he mentioned God the most. Said God will protect the United States and mentioned that the Bible calls for unity. President Trump has always signed an executive order easing the burden of Obamacare until it is repealed. Other sources claim that he will sign an executive order on Sunday defunding Planned Parenthood.

The day went well despite protests. Trump participated in a parade, and several balls where he had the first dance with first lady Melania trump.  The Holy Father Pope Francis sent his congratulations to President Trump and asked him not to forget the poor:

Here is the transcript of Donald J. Trump's speech:

TRUMP: Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans and people of the world, thank you.
(APPLAUSE) We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people.
(APPLAUSE)
Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for many, many years to come. We will face challenges, we will confront hardships, but we will get the job done.
Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent. Thank you.
(APPLAUSE)
Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning because today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people.
(APPLAUSE)
For too long, a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the jobs left and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs. And while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.
(APPLAUSE)
That all changes starting right here and right now because this moment is your moment, it belongs to you.
(APPLAUSE)
It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America. This is your day. This is your celebration. And this, the United States of America, is your country.
(APPLAUSE)
What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people.
(APPLAUSE)
January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.
(APPLAUSE)
The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.
(APPLAUSE)
Everyone is listening to you now. You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before.
(APPLAUSE)
At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction, that a nation exists to serve its citizens. Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves. These are just and reasonable demands of righteous people and a righteous public.
But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge; and the crime and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.
This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.
(APPLAUSE) We are one nation and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams. And their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny. The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.
(APPLAUSE)
For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry; subsidized the armies of other countries, while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military. We've defended other nations' borders while refusing to defend our own.(APPLAUSE)
And spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay. We've made other countries rich, while the wealth, strength and confidence of our country has dissipated over the horizon.
One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions and millions of American workers that were left behind. The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed all across the world.
But that is the past. And now, we are looking only to the future.
(APPLAUSE)
We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it's going to be only America first, America first.
(APPLAUSE)
Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs will be made to benefit American workers and American families. We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies and destroying our jobs.
(APPLAUSE)
Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength. I will fight for you with every breath in my body and I will never ever let you down.
(APPLAUSE)
America will start winning again, winning like never before.
(APPLAUSE)
We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.
(APPLAUSE)
We will build new roads and highways and bridges and airports and tunnels and railways all across our wonderful nation. We will get our people off of welfare and back to work, rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.
(APPLAUSE)
We will follow two simple rules; buy American and hire American.
(APPLAUSE)
We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world, but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first. We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example. We will shine for everyone to follow.(APPLAUSE)
We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate from the face of the Earth.
(APPLAUSE)
At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other. When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.
(APPLAUSE)
The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity. We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.
(APPLAUSE)
There should be no fear. We are protected and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God.
(APPLAUSE)
Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger. In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving. We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action, constantly complaining, but never doing anything about it.
(APPLAUSE)
The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action.
(APPLAUSE)
Do not allow anyone to tell you that it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America. We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.
We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow. A new national pride will stir ourselves, lift our sights and heal our divisions.
It's time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget, that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots.
(APPLAUSE)
We all enjoy the same glorious freedoms and we all salute the same great American flag.
(APPLAUSE)
And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the wind-swept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they will their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty creator.(APPLAUSE)
So to all Americans in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, from ocean to ocean, hear these words: You will never be ignored again.
(APPLAUSE) Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams will define our American destiny. And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.
Together, we will make America strong again. We will make America wealthy again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And yes, together we will make America great again.
(APPLAUSE)
Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America.
(APPLAUSE)
Thank you.
(APPLAUSE)
God bless America.

#ElectionNight 2016

After much drama and back and forth bickering, election day is here. This election has been one of the most strangest in United States' history. Both main candidates have been accused of being dishonest, vulgar, hypocritical and so on. In fact, many Americans have felt that this election would be hard to decide because either candidate could ruin America.  However, now the time has come to decide one. While there are other candidates, these have also shown themselves to be ignorant of many issues.  Now it is the time fro Americans to decide.  Here is a poll I started on Twitter which shows Trump is the choice:

I will update this throughout the night.

Donald J. Trump has just won the US Presidency!

#VPDebate 2016

The one and only vice presidential debate just took place. CBS News moderator Elaine Quijano took the task of steering the discussion between Tim Kaine and Mike Pence. This debate was more lively than the presidential debate with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. In many instances, the democratic vice presidential candidate, Tim Kaine, interrupted Mike Pence. He took on the role as the aggressor and it made him look bad, in my opinion, and the opinion of many others.  Mike Pence did an excellent job.  He won the debate.  Pence was calm, poised and did not fall into the bait attempts by Tim Kaine.  Tim Kaine repeatedly tried to get Pence to address why Trump has not released his tax returns and also pushed to get Pence to defend Trump's statements in the past. Many believe that this may have been Pence's weakness.  He did not defend many of Trump's statements. Some even say that Pence threw Trump under the bus and was indirectly making the case for Pence 2020.  Pence represented himself well, and this came across as him distancing himself from Trump.

On the issues, Pence spoke eloquently while Kaine seemed unprepared and resorted to scripted one-liners which Pence called him out on.  Kaine was very condescending, smiling a lot and gave an air as if he was more intelligent as opposed to Pence who came off as humble and collective.  Tim Kaine really did not present anything solid in regards to the economy and other issues.  Pence clarified Trump's ideas but did not go entirely into detail.  On the topic of faith, Kaine stated that he does not believe that a public servant should push doctrine on citizens and criticized Pence's stance on abortion and a law passed in Indiana which calls for the funerals of unborn children killed in abortion.  Pence replied in an eloquent manner reiterating that human life is sacred and that a nation is judged by how it treats its weakest.

Both sparred over Russia and Vladamir Putin with Kaine accusing Pence and Trump of calling the aforementioned a "better letter" than Obama. On nuclear weapons, Kaine accused Trump of favoring a nuclear war. Pence simply replied that Trump never said that. On taxes, Pence attacked Kaine for raising taxes in North Carolina and repeated that Trump would lower taxes while at the same time sharing his record in Indiana and how he lowered taxes and made the state better.  On the topic of immigration, Kaine kept repeating the accusation that Trump hates Mexicans and called them rapists and criminals.  Pence defended Trump stating that this was not true.  Kaine also accused Trump of wanting to deport all Mexicans.  Pence again said this was not true and stated that the targets for deportation were criminals, not all Mexicans.  Pence dismissed Kaine's accusations as "nonsense."  The moderator seemed to have been focusing on vetting Trump and did not do the same with Clinton.  She kept allowing Kaine to interrupt Pence and would interrupt Pence.

Again, I believe Pence won the debate tonight.  He showed great debating skills and temperament. Tim Kaine came across as a contrarian troll who was trying to bait Pence.  As to whether or not this will hurt Clinton, only time will tell.  In any event, Pence's performance may help Trump, especially with those who are afraid of a Trump presidency.  With Pence next to Trump, there may be some hope that Trump will be kept in check. However, most likely, whether intended or not, Pence made a case for his own bid for the presidency and let Republicans know that there is still of having a viable candidate within the party.  I would definitely vote for Mike Pence if he were to run for president! He is very intelligent, calm, poised and firm with his Christian values.  He would make an excellent president.

Here are polls I started and their results:

CNN #Debate2016: Trump vs Clinton

The day we all have been waiting for finally came. Just about an hour ago, presidential candidates Donald Trump (R) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D) squared off in a live televised debate on CNN.  The debate was held at HOFSTRA university. MSNBC's Lester Holt served as moderator. This debate was expected to have over 100 million viewers, a record breaker for televised presidential debates. The format was similar to that of primary debates with the exception that the audience could not applause and interrupt the candidates. There were certain instances where the audience forgot this rule and cheered anyhow.

The debate was well organized, in my opinion.  Donald Trump came out strong in the first half hour or so. He countered Hillary Clinton's points very well.  However, the rest of the way, he seemed to have lost steam.  Clinton spoke eloquently on the economy, jobs and racism.  At times, she brushed off Trump with condescending tone. It was apparently clear that she was trying to bait him to get emotional on stage.  Trump at times did get flustered, kept drinking water but never got into a shouting match like he did against Jeb Bush during the primary debates. Clinton did not get into any shouting match as well, but one could tell that she was holding back.  Both candidates sighed a few times, showing frustration.  On the economy, Trump did very well. He reminded everyone of the situation the nation is in and that he will be the best person to fix the problems regarding jobs and the national debt.  Clinton spoke as a scripted politician and Trump did a good job calling her out on that by stating that politicians are all talk and no action. This fit his narrative well since he is billing himself as the "outsider" against career politicians.

Clinton attacked Trump for not opening up his tax returns. Trumps shot back saying that he will release them when she releases the 30,000 emails she deleted. Clinton accused Trump of hiding that he does not pay taxes. Trump shot back saying, "That makes me smart." This may have harmed him with voters who are not pleased with how the rich often get away without paying taxes. It seems Clinton set him up to say this. Clinton also went after Trump's business record attacking him for going into bankruptcy and not paying contractors. Trump responded that this was business and that he does not pay anyone who does a bad job. Clinton presented herself as having experience. Trump rebuttal saying "She's got experience but it's bad experience."  This drew cheering from the crowd.

The issue of birtherism was brought up. Trump accused Clinton and a staffer of promoting the idea that Obama was not an American citizen. Clinton pushed the view that Trump's request for Obama's birth certificate was offensive to African Americans and bothered president Obama greatly. The topic was mixed with the talk on violence in cities.  Trump stated that stop and frisk must be brought back. He stated that it help reduced crime in New York City dramatically.  An NYPD tweet seemed to have confirmed this.

Ironically, the wall and immigration were not brought up in the debate. Clinton did jab Trump on his temperament. However, Trump stated that he had a better temperament citing Hillary's recent outburst with a reporter. Clinton said that American cannot have a president who loses it over a tweet controlling nuclear weapons.  Trump replied, "That line is getting old."  The debate was interesting to watch.  I was expecting more of a showdown, but perhaps the candidate held back in order to see how polls responded. Not much in regards to plans were discussed. To me, the debate seemed more like a discussion. Trump did interrupt Clinton a few times which I think was uncalled for. Some in the media are spinning it saying he was trying to speak over a woman. Clinton seemed poised the well measured but obviously scripted.  She did prepare for the debate, one could tell. Trump, I believe, did not prepare well enough and was left looking weak at certain instances.  Lester Holt was also asking Trump more questions than Hillary, which I found unfair. He was clearly protecting Clinton.  She hardly got crossed examined.

Most people on the media and social media believe Clinton won.  So far, a poll I posted on Twitter shows this same view.  I personally believe it was a tie.  Neither candidate really stood out.

Earlier in the day, I posted this poll which showed many believed Trump would win.

Ted Cruz Out, Trump trumps!

After crying out many times, "I'm the only one who can beat and has beat Trump," Ted Cruz has suspended his presidential campaign after losing by a landslide against Donald Trump in Indiana. Cruz was hoping for a win after the convention, but apparently saw that his attempt was futile. Cruz who Trump labeled as 'Lyin' Ted' was seen as the best conservative candidate. However, he was not very popular with his peers. Peter King of New York said he would take cyanide if Cruz won and former speaker Boener said he was 'Lucifer.' Moreover, Cruz offended New Yorkers with his 'New York Values' criticism which was based on ignorance. His arrogant demeanor and dubious personality clearly did not help him win many votes.

Trump's in-your-face personality and no-holds-bar approach has been more popular with Republican voters.  Even some Democrats have voted for him in the primaries. Trump now leads with 1,047 delegates and is clearly the nominee while Cruz left with 565 and Kasich stubbornly remains in the race with only 153 delegates. Sanders surprisingly won Indiana as well keeping him somewhat alive in the race in regards to the democratic convention since does not have enough delegates. Clinton just needs a few more delegates to be the presumptive nominee.

Trump & Clinton: New York State of Mind

As expected, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton won their home state, New York with impressive votes. Ted Cruz got no delegates and hardly any votes in comparison. This was possibly due to his offensive generalization of New Yorkers by labeling them as having 'New York Values' (see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/01/ted-cruz-new-york-values.html). That ignorant comment hurt his chances.

New York republican congressman Peter King even stated that he would drink cyanide if Cruz won. I think that shows how bad Cruz offended New Yorkers.  Trump beat him because New Yorkers know him better. He is a real estate business man who has brought many jobs to New Yorkers.  Cruz is seen as a clown in Washington who forced the government to close and read Dr. Seuss, wasting the people's time.

Governor Kasich did well in Manhattan, which is ironic since it is the borough that Trump calls home. Clinton won against Sanders by about 15%. While not surprising, Sanders was confident that he would win New York since he was born in Brooklyn and had record numbers of participants in rallies and a smashing debate performance (see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/04/brooklyn-brawl-demdebate.html and http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/03/bernie-in-bronx-st-marys-park-mott-haven.html). His chances of winning the democratic nominee position is slim. Clinton seems to already have gotten the spot unofficially due to the number of delegates that she has.

Brooklyn Brawl: #DemDebate

Last night, another CNN debate took place with democratic candidates for the presidency, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. The debate was held at the Navy Yards in Brooklyn, New York. Brooklyn is the hometown of Bernie Sanders.

This debate was different from previous ones. Both candidates went at it accusing each other of many things, shouting at each other and forcing the moderators to interject to get them to calm down. Bernie attacked Hillary on her connections with Wall Street and called on her to release the transcript of her speaking engagement. He also attacked her on her vote for the Iraq war. Sanders presented himself as the candidate for the people, painting Clinton as the 'establishment' candidate. Clinton attacked back mentioning his interview gaffe with the New York Daily News where Sanders came across as unprepared and called on him to release his taxes which he said he would on today. However, Sanders got Clinton to actually agree with him on social security which got her visibly upset, but she tried to 'smile it away.' She went after him on the NRA and gun control.

Sanders hit her back hard regarding the situation in Israel as well as climate change. The crowd was obviously on the side of Sanders. They cheered the most for him and at several times chanted 'Bernie Bernie Bernie.' Clinton was visibly embarrassed and acknowledged that the crowd was in Sanders' favor in her closing statement. Sanders cast doubt on Clinton's judgement and her ability to handle things. He also called her out on her constant mind changing on what the minimum wage should be.

In my opinion, Bernie Sanders won this debate. He destroyed Clinton on many points, made her look contradictory and got her to lose her temper a few times which she tried to mask with an exaggerated smile. Clinton looked visibly uncomfortable in a city she represented as senator.

#DemDebate On Univision

After a big win in Michigan, Bernie Sanders took on Hillary Clinton again in a debate on Univision; a network which has been at war with Donald Trump.  One of the moderators was Jorge Ramos who was kicked out of a press conference last year after skipping his turn during Q/A after Trump spoke.

The debate began with a rendition of the national anthem by a Hispanic youth (Sebastien de la Cruz) dressed in Mexican mariachi attire. It seems like this was a message to Trump who has been very vocal about illegal immigrants, especially those who come from Mexico undocumented.

This debate seemed too focused on immigration and even began with questions on Donald Trump in regards to whether he was racist or not.  Both candidates did not outright say he was, but gave examples of his statements and behaviors. The candidates also attacked each other on immigration with Clinton charging that Sanders supported 'Minutemen vigilantes' who were hunting down immigrants. Sanders countered that Clinton was not well informed and did not listen to his speeches.

Post Super Saturday CNN #DemDebate

Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders faced off once again on CNN for a post Super Saturday debate. The debate took place in Flint, Michigan where the area is facing a big scandal due to water pollution.  Both candidate called on the governor of the state to resign. They then got into heated exchanges over jobs, trade agreements and Wall Street.  At one point, Bernie Sanders yelled at Clinton to stop interrupting that the is speaking. Sanders tried to make a pitch to minority voters by mentioning his years as a student at the University of Chicago.

Clinton spoke of her time working for Marian Wright Edelman where she investigated Alabama schools for discrimination based on race. Both candidate voiced this differences on fracking with Clinton in support of it and Sanders against it.  With Clinton taking in a large amount of delegates, Sanders is now on the defensive and is trying all he can to get votes in order to be viable in this election.

DemDebate PBS

After losing the primary in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton took on Bernie Sanders on another debate on PBS.  She went after Bernie before an audience with a big attendance by African Americans.  Clinton tried to paint Bernie Sanders as being anti-Obama and Obamacare.  In response, Sanders countered her claims but at the same time called the president weak. He accused Clinton of simply repeating the failed policies under Obama while elevating his own as real progress. He focused on the problems regarding race and the economy while Clinton came across as defending Obama more than presenting her case.

Sanders attacked Clinton for taking advice from Henry Kissinger, a republican who is not well liked among liberals. Clinton attacked Sanders on his vote against comprehensive immigration reform in 2007.

#DemDebate - MSNBC

Last night, the Democrats had another debate on MSNBC with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.  Martin O'Malley was not present because he suspended his campaign after the Iowa caucus on Monday.

Both candidate went head to head in probably the most liliest of debates. Now that the number is down to two, the issues can be discussed more in depth.  Clinton and Sander reiterated their previous ideas but focused on trying to separate themselves from the 'establishment.' In other words, like with some Republican candidates, they want to be seen as innovators and not members of a party following the party's wishes. Clinton had a moment when she was questioned on taking money for speaking engagements, especially from Goldman Sachs which paid her $675,000. Sanders immediately jumped to the occasion to attack Clinton by saying that she cannot be trusted to go against Wall Street.  He made the analogy that kids get records because of pot while bankers at Wall Street who destroyed the economy, robbed people of their assets, got scott free and were even bailed by the US government.

This debate is an important one since the New Hampshire votes are at stake.  Both Clinton and Sanders nearly finished at a tie, though Clinton won the caucus.

#IowaCaucus: Ted 'Cruzin' & Bernie Clinton Tied

The Iowa caucuses are just about over which some interesting results.  On the Republican side, Ted Cruz pulled off a win over front runner Donald Trump, followed by Marco Rubio. It seems that a heavy evangelical vote pushed Cruz to first. On the Democrat side, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are virtually tied for first showing how close the race is between both candidates.  Third remaining Democratic candidate Martin O'Malley barely received 1% and announced he would be suspending his campaign for good. Similarly, Mike Huckabee threw in the towel after barely scratching the surface with votes. No word yet on whether either candidate will throw their support behind the remaining candidates.  However, as the days move on, we may see some endorsements.

Fourth #DemDebate

The fourth Democratic presidential debate took place last night. Each candidate spoke on healthcare, the economy and social issues.  They argued over healthcare with Sanders pushing for a better healthcare plan that includes all and is more affordable.  Clinton accused Sanders of wanting to start from scratch and said that would be a big mistake.  The arguments, formulations and so forth would further delay universal healthcare for all Americans.

On the economy, each candidate presented their ideas which were very similar. However, Sanders pushed for free college and other ideas that resemble socialism.  He also wants to increase taxes.  O' Malley argued that he has more experience at implementing change due to his terms as an elected official.  At one point of the debate, Sanders became annoyed with the moderator Andrea Mitchell when she asked about Bill Clinton's sex scandal. On social issues,

Sanders stated that he would have police officers made accountable whenever they violate the law or kill unarmed individuals.  He believes that the department of Justice should handle such scenarios, not local prosecutors.  For the most part, the debate showed three candidates who often did not answer the question directly and attacked on another.  Clinton and Sanders often went at it taking on a contrarian role.  At times, O'Malley tried to redirect the debate towards attacking Republicans.

Third Democratic Debate

Tonight, ABC News hosted the third Democratic debate with Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley.  The majority of the debate was focused on foreign policy. Each candidate took on different positions but each were united in criticisim their Republican counterparts. However, both O'Malley and Sanders attacke Clinton for her openess on the change of regimes in the Middle East. They argued that this opened the doors to instablity and the rise of ISIS.

Sanders did a much better job in this debate in regards to foreign policy; however, Clinton showed that she does have a strong hold on it.  Each of the candidate attacked Trump and his suggestion that Muslims be banned from entering the United States.  O'Malley seemed upset and interjected several times claiming he was not getting enough time.  Each candidate differed on medicare and taxes. At one point, Hillary attacked Sanders' plans for medicare saying it will give too much control to Republican governors.

Second Democratic Debate - CBS

The second Democratic debate just took place in Des Moine, Iowa. The three remaining candidates Clinton, Sanders and O'Malley took the stage.  At the onset of the debate, the events of terrorism in France was the first topic. Each candidate was dressed in dark 'mourning' attired. They debated on the United State's role in the fight against terrorism which Clinton stating that it was not America's fight. She was rebuked by O'Malley while Sander criticized Clinton's support on the war in Iraq. The rest of the debate pretty much was on the economy, income inequality, immigration and healthcare. Sanders defended his views which have been described as socialist by stating, "I'm not that much of a socialist compared to Eisenhower." He said he is for free college, true universal healthcare, the increase of the minimum wage to $15 and an increase of social security.

Clinton wants to better 'Obamacare,' wants a $12 minimum wage federal index allowing each state to decide afterwards whether to increase or not. O'Malley and Sanders agreed that big banks must be allowed to fail while Clinton disagreed stating that she would protect investment banks. O'Malley and Sanders attacked Clinton for defending Wall street.  The debate was a bit different from the previous one where each candidate seemed to support one another.  In this debate, Hillary was attacked by Sanders and O'Malley. She was questioned by them.On immigration, the candidates agreed that those illegal immigrants who are in the nation must have a path to citizenship.

The winner of this debate in my opinion was Bernie Sanders. He spoke articulately about his plans and had great rebuttals when questioned.  Clinton seemed more docile and only got a strong applause when she mentioned her female support.  Martin O'Malley did much better in this debate than in the last.  However, I do not see any big changes in the polls after this debate which was a bit bland.

Democratic Debate (CNN)

Last night CNN aired the first Democratic debate for this presidential seasons.  Candidates Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Martin O' Malley, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee.  The debate was watched by many on television and via live stream.  This debate differed greatly from the two Republican debates in that the candidates did not bash each other, were respectful and provided more substance to their answers.  There was no Trump verse Rand Paul episodes or repetition of political slogans without moving past that with an actual platform. At one point, Sanders even defended Clinton when he brought up the issue with her emails stating that Americans had enough with the damn emails.  The debate was clearly won by Hillary Clinton who presented herself as well prepared, poised and consistent.

Bernie Sanders also did well but kept to his area of economics and inequality.  He also came across as a milder Trump by becoming a bit emotional and raising his voice as he answered questions.  Martin O' Malley attacked Clinton on a few points but for the most part did not present himself as strong as her.  Both Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee were almost like the quiet mice in the room.  They hardly made an impact with their answers and did not engage in discussion with each other like Sanders and Clinton did several times. Clinton did well in appealing to women by defending Planned Parenthood, stating that Republicans are against big government until it involves women's rights when they want to use it to restrict a woman's "right to choose."

Sanders spoke more about inequality in regards to the economy, institutional racism and foreign policy.  The debate was not as lively as the Republican ones, but it was more organized, had more substance and was civil. Many political pundits believe that Clinton may have landed the front runner role for good and that Sanders confirmed to his supporters that he is in fact worthy to be the next president. Interestingly enough, the youth seem to be more supportive of Sanders than Clinton.

The Presidential Race Begins

The presidential race for 2016 is underway. First Ted Cruz announced his candidacy last month with the platform that we have to "restore the constitution," now Rand Paul, Hillary Clinton, and Marco Rubio have also joined.  Like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul is also running on the platform of "bringing America back."  Hillary Clinton is running for a second time after dropping out in 2008. She announced her candidacy via her website using a video that featured mostly women and LGBT couples.  It is clear that she is running on progressive issues.  Marco Rubio spoke in a general way mentioning that politicians have been stuck in the 20th century and putting emphasis on the economy, immigration and foreign policy. Jeb Bush who was a mentor to Rubio has yet to officially announce his candidacy.  It will be interesting to see if Rubio attacks him during the campaign.

This presidential race should prove interesting. There can be a first Latino president, first female president and the first time a former first lady may become president. While the debate will rage on regarding economics, foreign policy, education and the like, I think social issues will be heavily discussed in this election; particularly, same-sex marriage, religious freedom and abortion.

Hillary Clinton Email-Gate

First Benghazi and now emails.  Former first lady and secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is being investigated for using her private email account during her time as the secretary of state instead of the government's official email system.

Moreover, she even has a private server in her home in New York which processed and stored the electronic correspondence.  Clinton claims she did nothing wrong and wanted to have one email to access all of her correspondence.

Republicans are crying foul while the Democrats see this as a smear campaign to hurt the chances of Clinton running in 2016 for the presidency of the United States after Obama leaves office. Clinton's aides and others claim that no laws were broken.  However, a document from the government which those who leave office must sign clearly states that all emails and messages must be handed in.  Now, it seems Clinton does not have all of her emails despite owning her own server. Republicans have vowed to use the legal process in order to get Clinton to hand the server and other emails over.
