Ted Cruz Out, Trump trumps!

After crying out many times, "I'm the only one who can beat and has beat Trump," Ted Cruz has suspended his presidential campaign after losing by a landslide against Donald Trump in Indiana. Cruz was hoping for a win after the convention, but apparently saw that his attempt was futile. Cruz who Trump labeled as 'Lyin' Ted' was seen as the best conservative candidate. However, he was not very popular with his peers. Peter King of New York said he would take cyanide if Cruz won and former speaker Boener said he was 'Lucifer.' Moreover, Cruz offended New Yorkers with his 'New York Values' criticism which was based on ignorance. His arrogant demeanor and dubious personality clearly did not help him win many votes.

Trump's in-your-face personality and no-holds-bar approach has been more popular with Republican voters.  Even some Democrats have voted for him in the primaries. Trump now leads with 1,047 delegates and is clearly the nominee while Cruz left with 565 and Kasich stubbornly remains in the race with only 153 delegates. Sanders surprisingly won Indiana as well keeping him somewhat alive in the race in regards to the democratic convention since does not have enough delegates. Clinton just needs a few more delegates to be the presumptive nominee.

Trump & Clinton: New York State of Mind

As expected, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton won their home state, New York with impressive votes. Ted Cruz got no delegates and hardly any votes in comparison. This was possibly due to his offensive generalization of New Yorkers by labeling them as having 'New York Values' (see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/01/ted-cruz-new-york-values.html). That ignorant comment hurt his chances.

New York republican congressman Peter King even stated that he would drink cyanide if Cruz won. I think that shows how bad Cruz offended New Yorkers.  Trump beat him because New Yorkers know him better. He is a real estate business man who has brought many jobs to New Yorkers.  Cruz is seen as a clown in Washington who forced the government to close and read Dr. Seuss, wasting the people's time.

Governor Kasich did well in Manhattan, which is ironic since it is the borough that Trump calls home. Clinton won against Sanders by about 15%. While not surprising, Sanders was confident that he would win New York since he was born in Brooklyn and had record numbers of participants in rallies and a smashing debate performance (see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/04/brooklyn-brawl-demdebate.html and http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/03/bernie-in-bronx-st-marys-park-mott-haven.html). His chances of winning the democratic nominee position is slim. Clinton seems to already have gotten the spot unofficially due to the number of delegates that she has.

Post Super Tuesday #GOPdebate: FoxNews

The first GOP debate after Super Tuesday took place in Detroit. It was conducted by Fox News. Trump participated despite the presence of Megyn Kelly as a moderator. The participants were Cruz, Trump, Rubio and Kasich.  Ben Carson did not participate and may drop out of the race altogether, though no official statement has been made by his camp.

The debate was similar to the last one by CNN with Rubio going after Trump heavily.  He mocked Trump, questioned him on his inability to truly answer questions being asked by moderators and cornering him on his record and contradictions.  The moderators as well questioned Trump heavily and at one point showed video clips of him contradicting himself.  Cruz joined in the attack on Trump and at one point the debate became a circus between Trump, Cruz and Rubio. Trump defended himself over the 'hand' attack made by Rubio insinuating that he was OK in the 'male department,' if you know what I mean.  Later on, Cruz was telling Trump to break and count to ten prompting Rubio to say that he hopes there is no display of Yoga here. Trump was cornered on 'Trump University,' the hiring of illegal immigrants and even the failed 'Trump steaks' and other businesses led by Trump. Rubio even attacked Trump regarding the products being made in China and Mexico.

While the three (Trump, Cruz, Rubio) went at each other during the debate, nothing was really presented in regards to platform. Kasich I believe won the debate based on his answers and maturity. The others looked like kids arguing with each other on stage.  Many political pundits have stated that tonight's debate made the Republicans look bad.

#IowaCaucus: Ted 'Cruzin' & Bernie Clinton Tied

The Iowa caucuses are just about over which some interesting results.  On the Republican side, Ted Cruz pulled off a win over front runner Donald Trump, followed by Marco Rubio. It seems that a heavy evangelical vote pushed Cruz to first. On the Democrat side, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are virtually tied for first showing how close the race is between both candidates.  Third remaining Democratic candidate Martin O'Malley barely received 1% and announced he would be suspending his campaign for good. Similarly, Mike Huckabee threw in the towel after barely scratching the surface with votes. No word yet on whether either candidate will throw their support behind the remaining candidates.  However, as the days move on, we may see some endorsements.

Ted Cruz: 'New York Values'

During the Republican debate, Ted Cruz offended New  Yorkers by describing them as having 'New York Values.'  He insinuated that New Yorkers are slanted towards the left and have no 'real values.'  Donald Trump shot back at him reminding everyone of the values seen on 911 and that Cruz's comments were offensive.  Trump is correct.  The Daily News immediately took to the presses posting an image of the Statue of Liberty flipping the middle finger at Ted Cruz.

Many pundits are calling Cruz's comments as an embarrassment and blunder.  Governor Cuomo and others came out attacking Cruz for his comments.  It seems that Ted Cruz is anti-New York or extremely ignorant. The majority of the state is Republican!  Those liberals Ted Cruz is obsessed with are mostly found in New York City.  Upstate, the majority of counties ARE Republican.  In fact, Republican mayors have been elected in New York City showing that no such liberal faction controls the city in regards to voting.

Most likely, Cruz's stupid comments will hurt him in April when New York is set to vote in the primaries.  I applaud Donald Trump for defending New York.  No disrespect to Texas, but Pope Saint John Paul II dubbed New York City as the capital of the world because of its importance.  Texas is just a state with possibly the most obese people in the states and most uneducated.  Many refuse to accept evolution.  Texas cannot compare to my home state New York.

The Presidential Race Begins

The presidential race for 2016 is underway. First Ted Cruz announced his candidacy last month with the platform that we have to "restore the constitution," now Rand Paul, Hillary Clinton, and Marco Rubio have also joined.  Like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul is also running on the platform of "bringing America back."  Hillary Clinton is running for a second time after dropping out in 2008. She announced her candidacy via her website using a video that featured mostly women and LGBT couples.  It is clear that she is running on progressive issues.  Marco Rubio spoke in a general way mentioning that politicians have been stuck in the 20th century and putting emphasis on the economy, immigration and foreign policy. Jeb Bush who was a mentor to Rubio has yet to officially announce his candidacy.  It will be interesting to see if Rubio attacks him during the campaign.

This presidential race should prove interesting. There can be a first Latino president, first female president and the first time a former first lady may become president. While the debate will rage on regarding economics, foreign policy, education and the like, I think social issues will be heavily discussed in this election; particularly, same-sex marriage, religious freedom and abortion.
