Noah Cooper, better known as Jesus and Whatnot, just dropped a 10-minute video titled “I might be done (seminary time?).” It’s not a resignation letter. It’s a discernment update. He pinned a comment making that clear: nothing is confirmed. This is one possible outcome.
That honesty is typical of the channel. Noah has built a sizable following (hundreds of thousands across YouTube and Instagram) by mixing philosophy, Catholic apologetics, debates with Protestants and atheists, and straightforward explanations of doctrine. He talks like someone who actually reads the sources and enjoys the fight. A lot of people credit his videos with helping them take Catholicism more seriously or even convert. That kind of reach is rare.
The tension he’s naming
The video title itself is the story: maybe the YouTube chapter is wrapping up. Seminary would mean a very different life—formation, prayer schedule, studies, and eventually (if that’s where it leads) the priesthood. Comments already jumped to “soon to be Fr. Johan,” which tells you how quickly people map the possibility onto a future. Others reacted with a mix of “NOOOOO” and “YESSSSS.” Both feelings make sense.
Some viewers argued the channel itself is a form of ministry that a parish priest couldn’t easily replace. Debates, explainer videos, and live Q&As reach people who will never walk into a rectory. Others treated seminary as the obvious next step that had been sitting there all along. Both takes can be true at the same time. Digital apostolate and ordained ministry are not automatically in competition, but they demand different things from a person.

Why this lands with people
Vocation stories online usually get packaged after the fact—after the decision, after the collar, after the neat narrative. Noah is doing the opposite. He’s talking while the question is still open. That makes the video more useful than a victory lap. Discernment is rarely cinematic. It’s more often “I might be done” plus a question mark.
Catholic tradition has always held that the priesthood is a real calling, not just a career upgrade for devout guys who like theology. It also holds that the Church needs more than priests. Teachers, writers, and yes, even argumentative YouTubers have a place. The interesting part of Noah’s update is that he’s treating both possibilities as serious instead of performing certainty.
Whether he enters seminary or stays on the internet, the last few years of content already did something concrete: a lot of people learned the faith better because a young guy was willing to argue it in public. That’s not nothing.
