Pope Leo XIV Continues Blessings of Same-Sex Partners

Pope Leo XIV Continues Blessings for Same-Sex Partners: A Step Toward Inclusion or a Divisive Stance?

In a move that has sparked both hope and controversy, Pope Leo XIV, the first American pontiff, has signaled his intention to uphold the Catholic Church’s policy of allowing priests to bless individuals in same-sex relationships, a practice initiated by his predecessor, Pope Francis. This decision, rooted in the 2023 Vatican document Fiducia Supplicans, marks a significant moment in the Church’s ongoing navigation of its relationship with the LGBTQ+ community. While the policy does not endorse same-sex marriage, it extends pastoral care to individuals in “irregular” relationships, prompting varied reactions from Catholics worldwide. This blog post explores the context, implications, and reactions to Pope Leo XIV’s decision, grounded in recent developments and Vatican statements. The Context: Fiducia Supplicans and Pope Francis’ Legacy In December 2023, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, under Pope Francis, released Fiducia Supplicans: On the Pastoral Meaning of Blessings. This document, co-signed by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández and Monsignor Armando Matteo, permitted priests to offer non-liturgical blessings to individuals in same-sex relationships or other “irregular” situations, such as divorced and remarried couples. The document emphasized that these blessings are not endorsements of the relationships themselves but rather acts of pastoral care for individuals seeking God’s grace. It states that such blessings are for those who “recognize themselves to be destitute and in need of [God’s] help [and] do not claim a legitimation of their own status” (Fiducia Supplicans, quoted in Them, July 9, 2025).[](https://www.them.us/story/pope-leo-francis-same-sex-blessings-policy) This policy was a groundbreaking shift, as it marked the first time the Vatican formally allowed blessings for same-sex couples, albeit with strict qualifications. Pope Francis clarified that the Church does not bless same-sex unions as marriages, maintaining the traditional doctrine that marriage is a sacrament between a man and a woman. Despite this distinction, the decision faced significant backlash from conservative factions within the Church, particularly from African bishops and traditionalist groups, who viewed it as a step toward legitimizing same-sex relationships.[](https://www.metroweekly.com/2025/07/pope-leo-same-sex-blessings/) Pope Leo XIV’s Continuation of the Policy Following Pope Francis’ death in April 2025 and the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV, speculation arose about whether the new pontiff would reverse Fiducia Supplicans. As a Chicago-born cardinal with a reputation for a more conservative theological stance, some expected Leo XIV to align with traditionalist critics. However, in a brief interview on July 3, 2025, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, confirmed that the policy would remain under Leo XIV’s papacy. When asked by Il Messaggero if the blessings would be revoked, Fernández, who had recently met with the pope, responded, “I really don’t think so — the declaration will remain” (*Metro Weekly*, July 12, 2025).[](https://www.metroweekly.com/2025/07/pope-leo-same-sex-blessings/)[](https://www.outinperth.com/indications-blessings-of-same-sex-unions-will-remain-under-pope-leo-xiv/) This decision was further corroborated by multiple sources. The National Catholic Reporter noted that Fernández’s remarks were the “clearest indication to date” of Pope Leo XIV’s intent to maintain the policy, though they fell short of an official Vatican statement (*NCR*, July 7, 2025). Similarly, LGBTQ Nation reported that Fernández dismissed suggestions that Leo XIV would halt the blessings, emphasizing that the blessings apply to “the persons, naturally taking into account the context, sensitivities, the places where one lives, and the most appropriate ways to do it” (*LGBTQ Nation*, July 9, 2025).[](https://www.ncronline.org/vatican/vatican-news/gay-blessings-will-remain-under-pope-leo-vatican-doctrine-chief-says)[](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/07/pope-leo-will-bless-same-unions-despite-having-once-decried-the-homosexual-lifestyle/) Pope Leo XIV’s Complex Stance Pope Leo XIV’s decision to continue the blessings is notable given his past statements. In 2012, as Bishop Robert Prevost, he criticized the “homosexual lifestyle” and “alternative families” formed by same-sex couples, according to resurfaced remarks cited by *The New York Times* (*derechadiario.com.ar*, July 7, 2025). These comments have fueled concerns among LGBTQ+ advocates that his support for blessings may be a pragmatic continuation of Francis’ policy rather than a genuine shift toward inclusivity. However, in 2023, when asked if his views had evolved, Prevost acknowledged Pope Francis’ call for a more inclusive Church, stating that Francis “made it very clear that he doesn’t want people to be excluded simply on the basis of choices that they make” (*LGBTQ Nation*, July 9, 2025).[](https://derechadiario.com.ar/us/argentina/pope-leo-xiv-marriage-is-only-possible-between-a-man-and-a-woman)[](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/07/pope-leo-will-bless-same-unions-despite-having-once-decried-the-homosexual-lifestyle/) This duality reflects Leo XIV’s delicate balancing act. He has reaffirmed the Church’s traditional teaching that marriage is “only possible between a man and a woman,” as stated in a July 2025 declaration that sparked widespread debate (*County Local News*, July 7, 2025). Yet, his decision to uphold Fiducia Supplicans suggests a willingness to engage with modern pastoral realities, even if it does not extend to endorsing same-sex marriage.[](https://countylocalnews.com/2025/07/07/breaking-pope-leo-xiv-declares-marriage-can-only-be-between-a-man-and-a-woman-sparking-outrage-and-debate-papal-declaration-on-marriage-traditional-marriage-definition-religious-sta/) Reactions: Support, Criticism, and Polarization The decision to continue blessings for same-sex partners has elicited a spectrum of reactions. Progressive Catholics and LGBTQ+ advocates have welcomed the move as a sign of continuity with Pope Francis’ more inclusive approach. Posts on X from organizations like EdgewaterPCUSA and lgbtchi celebrated the decision, noting its significance for both Catholics and Protestants, given the pope’s global influence as a Christian leader (*X posts*, July 9, 2025). Human rights activist Peter Tatchell acknowledged the continuation of blessings but highlighted Leo XIV’s opposition to same-sex marriage, underscoring the policy’s limitations (*X post*, July 9, 2025). Conversely, conservative Catholics have expressed disappointment. Some traditionalist voices on X, such as BigModernism, lamented that Leo XIV’s decision represents a continuation of what they call the “lavender revolution,” accusing the Vatican of misleading claims about reform (*X post*, July 6, 2025). Critics argue that the blessings, even if limited to individuals, blur the lines of Church teaching on marriage and could lead to further liberalization. African bishops, who were vocal critics of Fiducia Supplicans, have continued to express unease, prompting the Vatican to clarify that the blessings are not endorsements of same-sex unions (*Metro Weekly*, July 12, 2025).[](https://www.metroweekly.com/2025/07/pope-leo-same-sex-blessings/) Implications for the Church and Beyond Pope Leo XIV’s decision to maintain the blessings policy reflects a broader tension within the Catholic Church: how to remain faithful to traditional doctrine while responding to a world where attitudes toward same-sex relationships are increasingly accepting. The policy allows the Church to extend pastoral care without altering its sacramental theology, but it also risks alienating both progressive and conservative factions. For LGBTQ+ Catholics, the continuation of blessings offers a measure of inclusion, yet the Church’s firm stance against same-sex marriage may leave many feeling that true equality remains out of reach (*Outreach*, July 8, 2025).[](https://outreach.faith/2025/07/why-did-the-vaticans-doctrine-chief-recently-weigh-in-on-the-2023-same-sex-blessings-decree/) Globally, the decision has implications for the Church’s influence in regions with varying cultural attitudes toward homosexuality. In Western countries, where same-sex marriage is widely recognized, the blessings may be seen as a modest step forward. In contrast, in regions like Africa, where conservative values dominate, the policy could deepen divisions among bishops and laity. The Vatican’s careful framing—emphasizing that blessings are for individuals, not unions—aims to mitigate this tension, but it may not fully satisfy either side. Looking Ahead As Pope Leo XIV navigates his papacy, his approach to LGBTQ+ issues will likely remain a focal point. His appointment of figures like Cardinal Arthur Roche, who supported *Fiducia Supplicans*, to key Vatican roles suggests a commitment to continuity in some areas (*vaticancatholic.com*, June 26, 2025). However, his conservative leanings and past statements indicate that significant reforms, such as recognizing same-sex marriages, are unlikely.[](https://vaticancatholic.com/pope-leo-appoints-cardinal-roche-same-sex-blessing-supporters-to-dicastery-for-consecrated-life) The continuation of blessings for same-sex partners is a testament to the Church’s attempt to balance tradition and modernity. For some, it represents a hopeful gesture of inclusion; for others, it’s a compromise that falls short of justice or fidelity to doctrine. As debates unfold, Pope Leo XIV’s leadership will be tested by the challenge of uniting a diverse global Church while addressing the pastoral needs of all its members. Just in Time For 'Pride:" Gay Porn Actor 'Austin Wolf" Arrested For Child Porn

Just in time for the end of "Gay Pride Month" with the Pride March taking place June 30th, 2024, we have some gay news to report.  A popular gay porn degenerate named "Austin Wolf" was arrested on Friday by the FBI after a probe was conducted on the encrypted app Telegram.  "Wolf" whose l name is Justin Heath Smith 43 years of age exchanged videos with FBI agents pretending to be fans of child pornography.

The videos are described as horrific and even showed a 10-year-old male child bound and being raped. The degenerate gay porn actor sent the disgusting content from a Manhattan apartment he rented.  This location was raided in April and over 200 videos depicting child porn on an SD card were discovered inside his personal computer room.

Smith was ordered to be held without bail at a Manhattan federal court.  New York prosecutor Getzel Berger said he is a "danger to children online, danger to children offline, danger to children everywhere."  Smith is being defended by lawyer Michael Baldassare who requested from US Magistrate Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky that Smith be placed under 24-hour house arrest while wearing a GPS monitor.

His attorney also pleaded with the judge not to send his client to Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center which is known as a dangerous location and where an inmate was stabbed to death recently.  However, Tarnofsky called the allegations "very troubling" and that letting Smith go under house arrest "could not reasonably assure the safety of the community."  Smith was charged with counts of distributing and reception of child pornography as well as possession of it.  He faces 5 to 20 years in a federal prison.  Federal marshals escorted Smith out of the courtroom as his partner of 10 years mouthed to him, "I'm sorry."  He will appear in court again in July.

This story is of no surprise to anyone.  Since the 1940s it was always the suspicion of law enforcement, psychologists, parents, and others at the time that homosexuals were predators of children.  There were even videos of this propaganda aired on television and presented at schools and churches.  Take this one for example:

Psychology before the 1970s was much different. It was not politically correct.  Psychologists like John B. Watson, Joseph Nicolosi, Richard Socarides, and others seriously sought to understand homosexuality and condemned it as a mental illness. They even offered treatments or conversion therapies.  This is a topic for another post, however, we wanted to bring this up in relation to the news of today and why there has always been a link between pedophilia, ephebophilia, and homosexuality.

Since the existence of homosexuality, records available to us from ancient Greeks, Romans, and older civilizations show a pattern of a fondness for younger men and boys on the part of homosexuals of the time which extends to today.  We see in these ancient civilizations how wealthy and powerful men often had a concubine on the side who was a younger male. In most instances, they were young boys who had yet to hit puberty.  This was accepted at the time just like with the relationship between the alleged prophet Mohammed and the nine-year-old Aisha who was the wife he had.

Today it is a somewhat different world. These kinds of "relationships" are frowned upon and are illegal in most nations with some offering ages of consent as a gray area.  In the gay or lgbtqia community things have not really changed. We still see a fondness for younger men on the part of older men. These young men are called "Twinks" while the older men are called "Bears," "DILFs," or "dad/daddies."  In many gay porn productions, the fantasy of "dad and son" is often played out. There are even some with gay men and younger men playing the role of priest and altar boy.  Teacher and son, coach and player, or even uncle and nephew are not far behind. It is a world of perversion devoid of morals and reason.

In gay apps used to "hook up" or find "partners," there are often many young gay men who are minors who pretend to be older in order to "experiment" or find their "older men" types. Law enforcement often ignores these apps where a lot of sexual abuse of minors is initiated.   The images demonstrated here show 'Austin Wolf' engaging in sexual perversions and courtship with younger men, one looks extremely young, possibly a teenager. This is the content these gay porn companies make and the content has a lot of subscribers.

With the onset of Only Fans, many young teen boys are using the site to make money from old perverted men seeking to enjoy their young bodies.  Again, no one does anything about this.  It is left to the side. This is why 'Austin Wolf' felt confident enough to send and receive child pornography on an app like Telegram. There is a whole world out there that is hidden but not hidden, per se.    This perverted gay porn star is just one of the many more out there.

However, with the atmosphere of political correctness the powers that be are afraid to touch the homosexual community out of fear of being labeled homophobic. This is the world we live in today.  Hopefully the people "Wolf" was sending child porn to are apprehended as well and the FBI begins to monitor gay institutions, apps, and porn channels.  Rest assured that Telegram is not the only place this evil thing is exchanged.

Unfortunately, our own Catholic Church and her seminaries have been infected with this "filth" as the late Pope Benedict XVI described it and we describe it as pure evil.

Kudos to the FBI for monitoring Telegram. Let us hope and pray they expand and monitor everything else.  This evil is real and is in plain sight.  Those who find a sexual fantasy of "dad and son," "uncle," "teacher and student" or even use terms like "twink, daddy and bear" need to be monitored.  It is most likely these perverted and disturbed individuals have skeletons in the closets they came out from.

Parents and guardians, teachers, and others, please keep an eye on kids and their activities. Please protect them! There are a lot of evil perverted and disgusting animals out there posing as humans.  It is no wonder why Smith used the porn name "Wolf." He is a wolf preying on the young.  Unfortunately, he is not the only one. This is scary to think about!

Pope Uses 'Gay' Slur Again

Pope Francis allegedly used the word frociaggine (Italian word for "Faggotry) again account to the Italian news service ANSA. They claim that in a closed meeting with priests at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome that the Pope said, “In Vaticano c’è aria di frociaggine” – meaning “In the Vatican, there is an air of faggotry.”  He also said to have stated that gay men can be "good boys" but that they should not be let into seminaries.

This claim of his use of the word comes shy of a monthly apology for using the same phrase at a May 20th meeting with Italian bishops (see: https://www.sacerdotus.com/2024/05/pope-francis-too-much-faggotry-in.html). The Pope's usage of the word is worrisome to those who call themselves "progressive" and who have seen his papacy as such. He did say "Who am I to judge" in reference to gay people and has been more open towards the homosexual community than any previous pope. There is no confirmation as of yet if this latest incident is accurate or truthful or is just an attempt by the Italian media to garner attention for their outlets.

Moreover, some believe the pope is intentionally doing this in order to be more forceful about the no-gays-in-seminary policy and does not want the media to control him. In any event, the use of the word does contradict his open and pastoral work with homosexuals and the comments he made to an expelled seminary student who wrote to him regarding his expulsion after informing seminary officials that he was gay (see: Sacerdotus: Pope to Gay Man Rejected By Seminary: Continue On!).

This time there is no news of an apology so we can assume that the word was not used again and this is just the Italian media publishing tabloids for hits, so to speak.

Pope Francis: 'Too Much Faggotry in Seminaries..."

Pope Francis is once again in the headlines for comments he allegedly made.  According to reports, the pope said that there is too much "frociaggine" or "faggotry" in seminaries. According to Time.com, "The remark, said to have been made during a closed-door meeting last Monday, was first reported by Italian news and gossip site Dagospia and then affirmed by Italian newspapers la Repubblica and Corriere della Sera, which each cited unnamed firsthand sources."

Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, in a statement on Tuesday, “The Pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms, and he apologizes to those who felt offended by the use of a term, as reported by others.."

According to reports, when the pope stated this, bishops in attendance laughed. The comment is being dismissed as a "gaffe" on the part of Pope Francis due to a lack of understanding of the word's context in Italy. Despite the pope being of Italian descent, he is an Argentinian and grew up in a predominantly Latino culture.

American Magazine and other publications are also excusing the pope's use of the word as a mere gaffe and that it was not intended to offend anyone, in particular, the LGBTQIA community.

The comment does come as strange after Pope Francis has been the only pope to have reached out to those in the Gay community and has been "gay-friendly."  Despite affirming Catholic teaching on Homosexuality, the pope has always made it a point to be merciful and amicable towards those in the Gay community.

'Pride' Night at Dodgers' Stadium an Epic Fail

It sure was a "proud" and "prideful" night at the La Dodgers' stadium, but not for the reason you may be thinking. It was supposed to be "Gay Pride" night at the stadium. Several gay entities were supposed to be awarded and honored. Among them were the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence," a hate group that mocks Catholics and the Christian faith. At first, the Dodgers disinvited this group only to reinvite them again.

This brought the ire of Catholics, Protestants, Conservatives, and even Jews and other groups who saw this as a slap to the face of religion. The Dodgers simply did not care about honoring this hate group that makes fun of nuns, women, and the Catholic faith. Many of us have gotten to know religious sisters in different ways and can attest to their hard work and faith. To honor a group of men who dress in drag that openly mock nun is just disgusting and disrespectful. Many Catholics pledged to gather peacefully and protest the Dodgers and the hate group.

Among them would be Bishop Strickland of Texas who is an orthodox champion of the Catholic faith who is not afraid to face the wrath of the world for the sake of Christ. Sadly, he was the only Catholic bishop in participation. Nevertheless, tens of thousands came from across the United States to pray and peacefully protest. Bishop Strickland even brought a first-class relic of St. John Paul II.

They gathered outside of the stadium praying and speaking out against the hate group being honored inside. Meanwhile, on the inside things were different. The hate group was surrounded by a large presence of police but with the stadium nearly empty. As the members of the hate group were announced, there was clear disapproval with jeers and booing.

It was a disastrous night for the LGBTQIA. Hopefully, the LA Dodgers and other teams in sports learned their lesson. America does not want this propaganda in our pastime. We have had enough and are pushing back. We cannot let a tyrannical minority impose on everyone else their delusions under the guise of "equal rights."

'For We Are Many' - Legion & LGBTQI Pronoun Fixation

Within the last decades, a lot has changed. Gay Pride has been spreading like a virus around the world, especially in the media. We see the "rainbow" colors all over the place. On websites, social media, and even at the White House, State government buildings, schools, and some churches. If anyone dares criticize or comment against this, they are canceled, ostracized, banned from social media platforms, and in some cases, even arrested.  We even have some Catholics in the clergy and laity defend this movement to the point of watering down the Church's teachings rooted in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.  It is just a bizarre time to live in.  The question is, what is behind all of this?

People using the pronouns "they, them, their" seems analogous with "We are Legion (Mark 5:9)." It makes no sense to use these words to identify one individual.  Are we seeing demonic activity manifesting in social engineering?  A religious sister on Twitter was recently attacked by a Franciscan priest who teaches at St. Bonaventure University over comments making this connection with the pronoun use and Legion of the Gospels. This, again is so absurd. It feels like one is in the Twilight Zone program where reality seems to alter itself as one is living it.

I am sure anyone who may be gay or an "LGBTQI ally" and is reading this will automatically label this post as "homophobic." This take is also absurd and a huge problem. Criticism is not hate. If something is immune from criticism, then it is a dictatorship that often pretends to have invincibility and later falls down hard. This post is not meant to be hateful, but to provide critical thinking to the phenomenon going on in regards to "pronouns."  As a Christian, I cannot help but see the correlation between Mark 5:9 and the insistence on using absurd pronouns in today's age. I am not stating that members of the gay community are demons or of the devil. What I am stating is that there may be a demonic influence behind it. Ephesians 6:12 reads, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."  In other words, we Christians are not at war with our fellow brothers and sisters who may not share our faith or may not share it completely. We are at war with the spiritual forces of evil and the powers of this dark world, as Ephesians describes them.

Those who know a bit about exorcisms know that there are different ways in which the devil or demons attack humans. Most are familiar with demonic possession when a demon or group of demons take over a human body and mind causing it to behave strangely and manifest superhuman traits. Then there are the less familiar terms of demonic obsession and oppression.  Demonic obsession is when the devil or demons literally are obsessed with an individual. They harass the person and even inflict misfortunes on them. Finally, there is demonic oppression which has some commonality with obsession but focuses more on the spiritual well-being of the person. In demonic oppression, the individual becomes to get weighed down by demonic attacks which are sometimes subtle. When the individual falls into temptation and sin, the demon(s) jump on this moment and begin to make the individual's life difficult. The individual is tempted and harassed so greatly that he or she beings to suffer spiritually, psychologically, emotionally, and even physically.  This will eventually lead to doubting, indifference towards religious convictions, acedia, and other ills. It is like a deep spiritual depression where one becomes hopeless, feels alone, and starts doubting everyone including themselves just like in the case of psychological depression which may lead to suicide.

Agnosticism and Atheism are forms of demonic oppression. Remember, if you reject God then you open yourself to His opponent de facto. One does not need to invite satan and his demons in via word, thought, or action. Just by rejecting God and/or sinning without care, one is inviting the enemy in. Similarly, if one is living in the sin of homosexuality without concern for it as if it were nothing serious, one is inviting in demonic forces that one truly cannot comprehend because they are in the spiritual realm. This is why we see a large amount of the LGBTQI population suffering from mental illnesses and even committing suicide. Some may blame religion or religious proselytism for this, but there is no correlation. People many times complain that the government is oppressing them, but we do not see a lot of suicides because of this. Similarly, there are other things that people feel weigh heavily on them, but we do not see high numbers of mental illness or suicide among these groups. Homosexuality is distinct in this regard.

This is why we must look into the obsession with absurd pronoun use. The demand to use strange pronouns causes confusion which is a sign of the devil who is a liar and caused confusion on day one with Adam and Eve. The demand to use strange pronouns means to convey plurality in order to represent one individual is a sign of "Legion" who was "many" in the one. It erases the sense one personhood and turns the individual into a plurality of expressions or manifestations.  To describe oneself as "they" or "them" or even "Us" or "zir" is to attempt to depart from the physical realm where our ontology only manifests in a singular and constant form. Only the spiritual realm is free of physicality and physics. Those who are not wise and who are blind to the spiritual world see this abuse of pronouns as nothing serious. It is just someone "living their truth" or "their expression." However, those of us who have the grace to see beyond the physical can see there is indeed something spiritual behind this and it is not good (2 Timothy 2:26, Ephesians 2:2).

Again, this post is not meant to attack the LGBTQI people but to critically think about what is influencing it. We are all being attacked and influenced by the devil. The LGBTQI community cannot be singled out. However, they are the ones currently pushing their propaganda aggressively on all of us, so it begs the question of why and why this phenomenon is so powerful. Not even Nazism was able to convince so many of its ideology. The Catholic Church herself was once the superpower of the Western world and even she did not have such influence and control over the masses. So how can a minority of people with a simple "rainbow" flag have so much influence and power over the masses?

Is it money? Is it a pity for those who have been targets of hate and abuse over the centuries?  Is it an attempt to be allied with this minority group?  In light of the many other groups who have more money and have had established power but were not able to reach the amount of control as the LGBTQI have, we can truly suspect that the power behind this agenda is demonic. Remember, Scripture and Jesus Himself have referred to satan as being the "ruler of this word" or "god of this age." (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Colossians 1:13).  That being stated, things in this world are influenced directly by the devil and demons.  We can assume that the influence, power, and extreme protection that homosexuality has gotten from the world is directly from satan himself because he is the ruler of this world and has great influence over it.  Many people do not even notice that the Pride flag has six colors, a number often attributed to the antichrist. We who studied physics know that the rainbow has seven colors, a number associated with God.

This is why we must minister to homosexual persons with love, the hard truth and grace. There is no place for homophobia or hate in Christianity and evangelization. Some Protestant denominations force conversion therapy on their homosexual parishioners, however, we as Catholics must let God's grace do the conversion. We all need conversion, not just homosexuals. All of us sin, not just homosexuals. We are all targets of satan. This evil and proud creature hates us and is envious of us (Wisdom 2:24).  We must remember that this creature is the target, not homosexuals or one another. He is our enemy, not homosexuals or any other person who may not share our faith.

Former Nuncio Blames Pope Francis for McCarrick

As if the recent report in Philadelphia is not enough, now we have a bombshell at the top of the Catholic Church.  Former Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano is making claims in a 11-page written testament that Pope Francis withdrew sanctions against former Cardinal, Archbishop Theodore McCarrick.  McCarrick has been recently exposed as a homosexual predator who prayed on young teens and seminarians during his time in New York, New Jersey and Washington D.C. see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2018/06/cardinal-mccarrick-accused-of-sexual.html.

Archbishop Vigano says that Pope Benedict XVI had imposed sanctions on then Cardinal McCarrick which were later removed by Pope Francis in 2013 upon taking the see of Peter. Vigano claims that Pope Francis protected and covered for McCarrick and made him his "trusted counselor."  He continues claiming that McCarrick told Pope Francis to appoint several bishops in the United States, particularly Cardinals Blase Cupich and Joseph Tobin.

Vigano says that corruption has reached the top of the heirarchy and urges un the dictates of the conscience for Pope Francis and all those who covered up for McCarrick to immediately resign from office.

This news is troubling to say the least. If true, Pope Francis et al., must indeed, resign now!  However, in the spirit of true journalism, there is always two sides. Let us not forget that Archbishop Vigano was replaced by Pope Francis in 2016 see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/04/apostolic-nuncio-replaced-media-slant.html. The media claimed that he was replaced for inviting Kim Davis to meet the Pope during his 2015 visit to the United States of America. Could Vigano be retaliating against the pope like a disgruntle former employee? Or was Vigano really removed because of Kim Davis who is known for refusing gay couples marriage licenses?  If so, then this would mead that Pope Francis did listen to McCarrick who is an alleged homosexual and is against anyone who speaks out against the LGBTQ agenda.

When We Rise...Yet Fall In Ratings

As many of you know, ABC aired a miniseries special on the LGBT agenda and how it rose to power.  The series was entitled "When We Rise."  It is partially based on gay activist and AIDS quilt creator Cleve Jones' book by the same name.  The intention of the series was clearly propaganda, however, it also served as a history lesson from the view point of the activists featured in the series. ABC anticipated the series to be a success in light of the up-rise in support for homosexuals. The anticipation fell short.  According to reports, "When We Rise" was a failure.  The ratings were abysmal.

Not many people tuned in to watch this pro-LGBT series.  Some are blaming the LGBT community itself for the failure.  I have mixed feelings over the series's failure. On one hand, I am happy many did not get this propaganda pounded into their brains; however, on the other hand, it is unfortunate that not many got to learn the history. Whether or not we agree with the LGBT agenda, we must acknowledge that the events surrounding "When We Rise" are history. They are part of our American History.

Real life Roma Guy, Ken Jones and Cleve Jones

The series also highlights what those in the LGBT community had to deal with. Surprisingly enough, the series honestly portrayed the AIDS epidemic as originating from the LGBT community.  The consequence of promiscuity and selfishness is presented well. Cleve Jones infects his partner Riccardo with HIV.  He never warned him before having sexual contact. Riccardo later commits suicide. Similarly, Ken Jones and his partner are revealed to have HIV after living a life of promiscuity at the bath houses and clubs. The hypocrisy of the radical feminist movement is presented well in the portrayal of Roman Guy.  Moreover, we see the discrimination Ken Jones faced for being black and gay, as well as, the problems of getting with a partner and depending on him/her not knowing what will happen when he/she passes away.  Jones is evicted from the home he shared with his partner after his partner died of HIV. He then turned to a life of addiction and depression because of the gay lifestyle.

I give the series a B+.  Austin Mckenzie and his portrayal of young Cleve was amazing. He even looked like him!  The other actors as well did a phenomenal job playing their characters.  They took us back to the moments presented, literally.  As an academic and Catholic, I cannot ignore the historical value of the series nor the suffering the LGBT endured and still endure. This series highlighted this well (though there were many inaccuracies, historically speaking; and artistic license was used) and should remind us that we have to hate the sin, but love the sinner. This miniseries makes me condemn the homosexual lifestyle even more after seeing the negative impact it has had on so many people. Cleve Jones, Roma Guy, Ken Jones and others are heroes in their own respect. They fought for the respect of others. Whether or not we agree with what they fought for, we must respect their courage and determination.

"When We Rise" may have been a failure, but the events it represented were clearly successful.

Anti-Catholic Jack Chick Dead at 92

Before there was Westboro, there was Jack Chick. Jack Thomas Chick was born on April 12, 1924 and died October 23 of this year 2016.  He was a cartoonist and a publisher who was fixated on defaming the Catholic Church and promoting heresies. Chick used his artistic ability to post lies and misconceptions on the Catholic faith as well as Islam, Jews, Gays and others. He published many booklets which he called "chicklets" which were modeled after comic books.  These booklets accused the Catholic Church of many conspiracies such as creating Islam, the Ku Klux Klan, the Holocaust, Communism, major World Wars, Nazism, the Great Depression and so forth.  He even claimed that the Catholic Church founded the Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons!

Chick condemned Catholics and all who did not think like him to hell. He promoted bigotry and paranoia. Jack Chick became an Evangelical Baptist after World War II via the Charles E. Fuller radio program, "Old Fashioned Revival Hour." By the 1960s, he began creating his "chicklets" eventually leading to the formation of his own print company in the late '70s. As expected, Chick's tracts were controversial even among other Evangelicals who had issue with his harsh attacks against Catholics. Chick wrote a booklet on "Alberto Rivera" who was an alleged former Jesuit priest. This "priest" claimed to know secrets about the Catholic Church as an "insider." He claimed that the Catholic Church was responsible for Freemasonry and a whole host of other conspiracies. In 1981, writer Gary Metz of Cornerstone magazine exposed Alberto as a fraud.  He was never a priest and had a history of legal problems such as fraud, credit card theft and using phony checks. Alberto claimed to have left the Catholic Church in 1952, however, he was promoting Catholicism in a newspaper interview years later. His claims of possessing doctoral degrees was also proven false. He died in 1997.

Jack Chick's tactic of using falsehoods is widely known. Many in the Protestant community avoid his content as hateful and even see them as a parody. His Bible illiteracy is clearly visible in each tract. In one, he calls the Holy Eucharist "the death cookie" despite Jesus Himself stating that He is the bread of life and the historical and biblical fact that the Mass has been a rite since the times of the disciples. In fact, the Romans thought the early Christians who were Catholic were cannibals because of how serious they believed that Jesus was present under the appearance of bread and wine. Jack Chick also claimed that the words magical incantation "hocus pocus" came from the words used at Mass for Consecration (HOC EST ENIM CORPUS MEUM).  The truth of the matter is that it was the name of a magician. \ In another tract, Chick attacks Islam claiming that it comes from a Pagan religion that worshiped a moon deity. Scholars have dismissed this claim as lacking substance.

In any event, Jack Chick was a talent artist. It is unfortunate that he used his talent to promote hate and lies. One does not have to be a college graduate to see his booklets had no academic value.  His material will most likely be collected as artifacts of American history. All we can do is pray that God had mercy on his soul. We Catholics are called to love and pray for those who hate us.  Jack Chick lived a life of ignorance and fundamentalism which is not compatible with faith in God. May God have mercy on him and may he rest in peace.

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time - The Law in Us

Today's readings touch on the Commandments and mercy.

The first readings tells us of Moses reminding the people to turn to the Lord and keep His commandments. Humanity is always falling away from God's way. The Hebrews were no stranger to this behavior (Exodus 32:9). Despite witnessing God in action via miracles and other supernatural phenomenon, they turned away and sinned (Psalm 107:24, Psalm 95:9). Moses reminds them that God's law is in them and in us today in 2016 (Jeremiah 31:31-35). This is the Natural Law.

Recently in the United States, we have witnessed many horrific events. From mass shootings throughout the states which seem to be a common thing now, to the recent attack in Dallas against the police. America seems out of control. People are protesting all over after cops shot and killed several individuals. The divisions are more and more apparent. These things are happening because Americans are falling away from God. They need to return to the Lord. America is a nation which prides itself as being "Under God," yet the nation allows laws and practices that are contrary to Him. Abortion laws are protected as if they were sacred. Any criticism against them turns into an accusation of misogyny for the one offering the criticism. If one defends the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, one is "against women." Similarly, the idea of marriage has been distorted as being an "anything goes" scenario. Once again, anyone who defends the natural union between one man and one women is accused of being a bigot or on the "wrong side of history." Moreover, America has gotten so lost that there is confusion on what gender is and what bathroom one should use. I can go on and on, but I believe you get the point especially if you are an American reading this.

It is no surprise to me why we are seeing so much evil in America. America is pushing God away. We reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7). God only blesses a nation that sticks with Him (Psalm 33:12, 2 Chronicles 7:14).  He gave us His law, we must follow it. These laws or Commandments are not rules meant to oppress. If one studies them well, one will see that these rules are meant to control fallen human nature. These laws are not in the sky or sea, as Moses said. They are not far from us. These laws are in us. We are hardwired to have a conscience.  We must turn to God in our need as the first option for the responsorial Psalm states.  God is our constant help. We must seek Him and ask for mercy.  Only God can help us now, not politicians or leaders in secular governments (Psalm 121:2, Psalm 146:3). This is why as we are afflicted in pain with the loss of so many lives in America, we must seek God and ask Him to rebuild our cities and save America and the whole world. The United States is not the only nation falling away from God. We must seek the Lord's words which are Spirit and life, as the second option for the responsorial Psalm states.  God's law is indeed perfect. Who knows us better than our maker (Jeremiah 1:5)? His precepts are right. They are not meant to oppress us, but to allow us to truly use our freedom as we ought.

We follow these laws in Christ who is the image of the invisible God, as we read in the second reading (John 14:7).  Everything was created for Jesus Christ.  All things visible and invisible; all things in this universe and whatever realms may exist belong to Christ. All were created for Him and through Him (John 1:3). He existed before all that exists and it is He who is the invisible head of the Catholic Church (John 1:1). The Pope is the visible head and vicar of Christ, but he does not replace Christ (CCC 885,936).  The Catholic Church belongs to Jesus, not anyone else. We can only find peace in Christ Jesus through the blood of His cross. This blood we receive in the Holy Eucharist at Mass.

Lastly in the Gospel, we read of the scholar of the law who asked Jesus what we must do to inherit eternal life.  Jesus using the Socratic method simply asks him, "What is written in the law?" The man replies, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."  The Commandments given to Moses are summed up in these two simple but profound commandments. First, we must love God above all things. This love must be expressed in our being which includes the heart, soul, our strength, and mind. This makes sense because God is our creator. Our bodies may have formed in the womb of a human female after conception via male sperm, but God decides if we are to exist or not (Isaiah 66:2). God is the one who knits us and plans our lives (Psalm 139:13).

Furthermore, we must love our neighbor as we love ourselves. This neighbor is everyone around us: relative, co-worker, stranger and so on. Those of us who have trouble loving others is because we do not love ourselves. God implicitly showed some psychology in this commandment. Psychologists often state that those who hate others do so because they do not love themselves. People who do not love themselves do not understand what it means to love others.  Since they do not understand, they cannot express it. We must be loving of all people, including those who dislike and hate us (Matthew 5:43-48). This does not make us weak, but strong because we did not let the hate and negativity affect us. When people come to you and trash you, mock you, harass you, gossip behind your back, this is because these people do not love themselves. People will tear others apart in order to use what they tore apart to build up in themselves what they lack. We must bear with one another (Colossians 3:13, Ephesians 4:2). No one is perfect and each one of us has his or her temperament which often gets the best of us.

Lastly, Jesus tells us in the Gospel the parable of the Samaritan. A man is attacked by robbers and left for dead. A priest of the Jewish faith passed by and ignored the man who was attacked. Similarly, a Levite passed by. These individuals gave their lives to preach and live by the law of God, but ignored this victim (Leviticus 21, Leviticus 8-10). They did not love their neighbor as they loved themselves. However, a Samaritan came by and stopped.  The Samaritans were considered by the Jews of the time as people of a "lower class." This was because they mixed with other cultures (non-Jews) and were lax in their practice of the law. Since the Samaritans were not expected to follow the law, the fact that the Samaritan in Jesus' story stopped to help is significant. Jesus is showing in the story how those who study the law become so rigid with the letter of the law that they forget to practice the spirit of the law (Matthew 6:5, Mark 2:27). We must not become like this. This is why Pope Francis has been stressing for Catholics to practice the spirit of the law and not become like the rigid priest and Levite in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Those who have been attacking the Pope and his writings on mercy are behaving like the priest and Levite who saw the law as something they had to learn mechanically without processing the spirit behind them. The rules of the Catholic Church, the teachings of the Church etc, exist to serve us, not for us to serve them (Mark 2:27). This does not mean that we can water down or pick and choose what we want, I must make that clear. What this means is that we must meet people where they are at, as Pope Francis has constantly reminded us. When we see a Protestant or Muslim, we should not see a "heretic."  When we see a gay person, we should not see a "sodomite."  When we see a Jew, we should not see a "perfidious person." When we see an atheist, agnostic or indifferent person, we should not see a "heathen." Instead, we should see a victim who was robbed by Satan and stop to help him or her (John 10:10). The Church must be a field hospital, as the Holy Father has stated. This is how we love our neighbor. We must be merciful to others.  Let us pray for this world which is falling apart. While we pray, let us put the law of God into practice by reminding the world to love God with, mind, body, heart and soul; and love neighbor as one loves him or herself.  May Jesus Christ be praised!

Amoris Laetitia - The Joy of Love

Today at around 12 PM Rome time, the Apostolic Exhortation "Amoris Laetitia: On Love in the Family" was released to the public. It is important to note that an Apostolic Exhortation does not introduce, change or define doctrine.  Rather, it is the Pope communicating to the Universal Church to take certain actions. The Apostolic Exhortation released today was a lengthy work in progress which began at the Synods 14 & 15. It focuses on the family and the modern situations it finds itself in. During the Synods, open discussions were held regarding the family, homosexual unions, divorce and the reception of the Sacraments.

The exhortation begins with an introduction telling of the issues at hand and how complex they are.  The Pope says that not everything should be left to the magesterium and that each local region should seek solutions base don culture, traditions and the needs of the local people. In chapter 1, the Pope reflects on the family using Sacred Scripture, specifically Psalm 128.  He describes the family as a 'trade' and not some abstract idea. He follows in chapter 2 by presenting the situations of families in today's world.  The ideas of contraception, biotechnology, gender theory, pornography, abuse of minors etc are mentioned. He expounds on them and calls on all to have an informed conscience. The Pope stresses that Catholics should not see couples living in 'irregular situations' as 'living in sin.'

In chapter 3, the Pope points to Christ as the center and vocation of the family.  He relies on the Gospel to make his case and reminds Catholics of the indissolubility of marriage and the importance of transmitting life as well as the education of the youth.  He brings out the 'imperfect situations' that exist in the world and that pastors must be merciful and avoid judgments. Pastors must understand each situation and try his best to work with families involved in said situation. In chapter 4, the Pope addresses love in the family and expounds on the many hardships couples face in marriage. He stresses that love must be transformational. Couples must work at it and not give in to the changes that take place i.e. loss of attractiveness, physical changes, changes in sexual desire and so on.

Chapter 5 deals with procreation and the call to be "fruitful and multiply."  The Pope stresses that this fruitfulness can be found in adoption and the care of children by parents and the extended familiy. In chapter 6, the Pope addresses the issues via a pastoral perspective.  He relies on the teachings of Pope John Paul II and his own catechesis along with the reports from the two Synods to stress that the family must not only be evangelized but it must also go out into the world and evangelize.  He makes the observation that most clergy are not well educated on how to deal with the face of the changing family in the post modern world and stresses changes in the psycho-affrective formation of those in seminary. The Pope continues speaking on the family, married couples and those who are divorced and often felt abandoned by the Church. He describes divorce as an evil and stresses the need for the annulment process to be reformed. Lastly, he addresses the situations with married couples of different faiths as well as homosexual persons.  He stresses that homosexuals must be loved and respected, but also makes it clear that same-sex marriage is not the same as marriage between a man and a woman and can never be the same.

In chapter 7, the Pope speaks on the education of children and how parents cannot control every situation a child faces. He stresses all kinds of education including sex education, but warns that so-called 'safe sex' education is harmful because it presents the procreative finality of sex as something negative or as something that can being negative consequences. He says that it promotes narcissism and aggression. Chapter 8 invites the Church to be more merciful to others and provide pastoral discernment in regards to today's family situation and the many dysfunctional aspects we find in it today. The Pope reminds us that the Church is like a field hospital caring for all those who are wounded.  It should not be a place for judgment. The Pope also makes it clear that pastoral mercy must never lessen or water down what Jesus offers and desires of the family, couples and so on, he writes: “To show understanding in the face of exceptional situations never implies dimming the light of the fuller ideal, or proposing less than what Jesus offers to the human being. Today, more important than the pastoral care of failures is the pastoral effort to strengthen marriages and thus to prevent their breakdown.”

Finally, chapter 9 reiterates the spirituality of marriage and the family. The Pope stresses the need for prayer and participation in the life of the Spirit.  He reminds us that families do not appear perfect.  Each family has its issues, but they must strive to grow in love and maturity.

***

My thoughts:

The Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia: On Love in the Family is very well written. As expected, there were no doctrinal changes nor any endorsements of anti-Catholic rhetoric. Nevertheless, some are not too happy with it, especially so-called Traditionalists who feel the Pope did not reiterate strongly that those who divorce and remarry cannot be admitted to Holy Communion.  I can see why they would feel this. Footnote 351 which says:

seems to leave open the idea that Holy Communion can be given out on a case by case scenario since the "Eucharist is not a prize for the perfect, but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak."

The footnote is supporting this statement in the exhortation:

Because of forms of conditioning and mitigating factors, it is possible that in an objective situation of sin – which may not be subjectively culpable, or fully such – a person can be living in God’s grace, can love and can also grow in the life of grace and charity, while receiving the Church’s help to this end.

As you can see, it is referring to those people who are in a situation of sin, but can "can love and can also grow in the life of grace and charity, while receiving the Church's help..."  This can leave open the idea of giving Holy Communion to those who are divorced and remarried, or any situation for that matter where Holy Communion is prohibited. I feel Pope Francis needs to clarify this otherwise some bishops and priests will run with the wind with it and give our Holy Communion with disregard to the idea that we have to be in the state of grace to receive the Lord. While the Sacraments are a 'medicine' of sort, we are told by St. Paul that receiving the Lord's body and blood unworthily brings about not only sin against the body and blood of the Lord, but also bodily sickness:

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be answerable for the body and blood of the Lord.  Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup.  For all who eat and drink without discerning the body, eat and drink judgment against themselves. For this reason many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.
1 Corinthians 11: 27-30

Overall, I liked the exhortation and see that the Pope is speaking pastorally and with mercy, so I understand where he is coming from.  However, what worries me is how others will interpret this and go around handing out Holy Communion to everyone as if it were government cheese.  The Holy Eucharist is not a prize for the perfect, but it is also not food for dogs.

In closing, we must read this exhortation carefully.  I have already read it 3 times just to make sure I got every detail and  understood where the Pope was coming from and why he was coming from there, so to speak.  The media has already jumped to conclusions saying things the Pope never said. Please ignore them.
