"Pray the Gay Away"

I am writing this blog post in response to this post I read from an zealous homosexual advocate on Twitter.

Homosexuality is a heavy topic in this world, especially among religious circles.  Religion is often blamed for the suicides of gay people.  However, a scrupulous inspection of the facts show that bullying is the factor, not religion.

The Catholic Church teaches that homosexual desires are not a sin unless it is acted upon.  It is no different from heterosexuals having sexual desires.  Those desires become sin when they are acted upon.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has this to say:

Chastity and homosexuality
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Homosexual advocates often preach the idea that homosexuals are "born this way" and there is nothing anyone can do about it in regard to changing them.  However, there is no scientific evidence that homosexuals are "born this way."

Performers such as "Lady Gaga" can sing all they want about homosexuality being a trait that is part of birth, but this is simply not the truth.  It is propaganda meant to mislead people into accepting a way of life.   This was the approach of Adolf Hitler who said, "Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it."

This is the case with the homosexual agenda.  So much of it is composed of lies and distorted ideas of psychology, love and human interaction.  It is all propaganda.  Most of the defenses offered by the homosexual agenda reek of Argumentum ad Ignorantiam and False cause fallacies.

For example, "Homosexuality is seen among penguins and other animals, so therefore it is normal among human beings."  While this has been observable, we cannot come to the conclusion that this is homosexuality as opposed to instinctual behavior based on the limits of the organism's brain and how it perceives hormones.  Moreover, hamsters sometimes eat their young, does that mean human mothers should eat their kids as well because hamsters are part of nature just like human mothers are?

The difference between human-animals and non-human animals is that we have reason, conscience and self awareness.  We can know better, a non-human animal cannot.  It is not rational to think that 2 males and 2 females will continue a species.  It is not rational to think that male genitalia was meant for male genitalia and vice-versa when it comes to females.

Heterosexuals and homosexuals are called to chastity.  Even married couples!  Homosexual desires are in a sense the same as desires to gossip, over eat, avoid going to Mass etc.  They can be overcome through prayer and God's grace.  The saints are great examples of this.

Homosexuals who believe in God and claim they cannot conform to God's will are discrediting God's ability to bring perfection out of imperfection.  As the Catechism says, we must use the virtues of self-mastery with prayer and sacramental grace in order to bring about inner freedom.

All over his blog, this gay advocate has clip art saying to "be yourself, live free," but when you come out and walk about proud, you become a slave to sexual vice.   That is not freedom.  Your desires got the best of you.  It is like an obese man who lost weight and has desires to overeat again and does it.  That act of overeating - just because he can- does not make him free.  It imprisons him into a life of gluttony.

Being homosexual is not a hopeless case.  One can overcome the desires without guilt and all the nonsense this gay advocate blog post claims comes as a result of Christian spirituality.  It is not easy, but it is also not impossible.

No homosexual trying to live God's will should be ashamed of that or of him/herself.  God will truly value the attempts made to live a chaste and holy life.  God does not give us burdens we cannot handle.

The choice is yours:

  • become imprisoned to disordered desires that come from original sin,
  • or be set free by self mastery, prayer and God's grace.

Who knows more about a Toyota car, the owner of one or the maker of one?  Similarly, who knows more about you, you or your maker?  Trust God.  He will set you free.
