Atheist Comedian Messages Me

Last month, comedian and magician Penn Jillette messaged me on Twitter.  Apparently my tweet regarding the trend among atheists as comedians got his attention.  He seemed to have enjoyed the tweet and sent a few more tweets thereafter.

As usual, other nosy atheist trolls who live in my twitter garden came out of their caves to see what was the matter.  They were apparently shocked that this guy messaged me.  It is rare for a "celebrity" to message fans or others on social networks.

What can I say?  I have a way to attract people. :-)

Anyhow, Jillette made a comment about scientists being atheist and that atheists enjoy being able to "think freely."  Again, these are the typical apologias for atheism that atheists provide when discussing God and religion.  The problem here is that claiming that a science academy or institution is mostly atheist is appealing to popularity.  This fallacy basically means that if "most people are x, then x must be true or a good."  I responded by informing him to read  "Science vs Religion - What Scientists Really Think" regarding scientists and God.

What I found interesting was that Jillette is very vocal on TV regarding his beliefs, but was shy with me.  I was hoping for a twitter battle and was not aggressive with him in order for him to not feel like he's being attacked and would continue the discussion.  Unfortunately, he bowed out.  I would have love to answer his questions and misconceptions.

I would have loved to show him how atheism is just smoke and mirrors and is the joke of intelligentsia.

Here is the short exchange:

  1. When you get your theology from a comedian, don't be surprised if it's a joke.
