Cano, Granderson gone. Beltran in.
In light of Pope Francis' exhortation where he addresses the problem of "King Money," a good example is presenting itself in the sports world. The New York Yankees lost two of its players today, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson. Both are good players, but were asking for too much. The Yankees have already made it clear that they want to decrease their payroll so as to offset the luxury tax and keep fans in the stadium by keeping ticket prices manageable.
Unfortunately, Cano wanted over $200 million dollars for 10 years and general manager Brian Cashman said no way Jose. The Seattle Mariners were quick to jump in and Cano agreed to a 10 year deal with them for pretty much what he wanted from the Yankees. Granderson signed with the Mets for $16 million. Some sport enthusiasts are calling the Yankees stupid for letting them go, especially Cano. They claim George Steinbrenner III is 'rolling around in his grave' now.
Baseball is no longer about having fun, the fans or sportsmanship. It is about making money. This
is sad. In any event, the Yankees did acquire Carlos Beltran for 3 years at $45 million.
Let's see what happens next.
