MRSA Killing Potion

According to a microbiologist at the University of Nottingham, UK; a potion from an old English medical compendia from the 10th century entitled Bald's Leechbook may be a cure for MRSA.  The concoction was meant to treat eye infections but now turns out to actually kill MRSA.

MRSA or the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is an antibiotic resistant organism which infects the body to the point of causing death. Hospitals throughout the world have struggled with keep it at bay, especially after it has been found in hospital rooms and equipment despite attempts by hospital to sanitize them.  This recipe is written with simple instructions:

"Take cropleek and garlic, of both equal quantities, pound them well together… take wine and bullocks gall, mix with the leek… let it stand nine days in the brass vessel…"

However, the outcome is slimy, disgusting and odorous. IN lab studies, this substance was found to clear up styes and kill off MRSA.  However, do not expect this potion to hit the pharmacy soon. Scientists are studying why this substance has this effect on MRSA and will try to find means of replicating it so in the future it may become a form of treatment in a more modern form.
