During an in-flight press conference, the Pope addressed the moral complexities faced by voters in choosing between candidates with differing stances on key issues such as immigration and abortion. His remarks highlighted the challenges Catholics face in reconciling their faith with the political choices available.
The Pope's comments come at a time when the U.S. is deeply divided on many issues, and his words have resonated with many who struggle with the concept of choosing the "lesser evil" in an election. The pontiff's statements underscore the Catholic Church's long-standing teachings on the sanctity of life, marriage, and religious freedom, and the difficulties in finding candidates who align perfectly with these values.
In his comments, Pope Francis did not endorse any candidate but instead urged voters to follow their conscience, emphasizing the importance of participating in the electoral process. He pointed out that both major candidates have policies that could be seen as "against life," referring to the Republican candidate's anti-migrant policies and the Democratic candidate's stance on abortion. He likened Harris to the one "who likes to kill babies" and Trump as the one who "throws away migrants."
The Pope's remarks have sparked a variety of responses, from support to criticism, reflecting the diverse opinions within the Catholic community and beyond. Some have praised the Pope for his willingness to speak openly about such a contentious issue, while others have questioned whether it was appropriate for a religious leader to comment on a specific country's election.
Regardless of the varied reactions, Pope Francis' statements have brought to light the moral dilemmas that many voters face, not just in the U.S. but around the world. His call to action for voters to engage with their conscience and participate in the democratic process is a reminder of the role of personal ethics in public life.
As the U.S. approaches its election day, the Pope's words serve as a catalyst for reflection and discussion on the intersection of faith and politics. It is a moment for voters to consider not only the policies of the candidates but also the broader implications of their choices on society and the world at large. The Pope's comments agree with us here at Sacerdotus who feel neither candidate is worth the US. Presidency. They are simply awful candidates who have no regard for life and the sanctity of it.
The lesser of two evils simply cannot apply in this election because both candidates are equally against life as the Pope stated. Trump in 2016 would have easily been the lesser of two evils, however, he has morphed into a different candidate than the one we saw in 2016. He seems more timid on issues and backtraced on pro-life issues. His main focus now is illegal migrants. On the other hand, Harris is simply focused on abortion children. There is no concern for the economic troubles Americans are facing thanks to her partner President Biden, nor is there any concern for the elevated levels of crime and the influx of illegal immigrants and migrants. Her focus is simply to abort children as if abortion would solve all the problems of the world! It is just sickening!
As it stands, no Catholics can vote for either Trump or Harris and be Catholic. They would be materially cooperative of both candidate's evils. Both candidates have evil as their platform!
Let us pray for Trump and Harris to change their minds to a more sane platform that supports life and focuses on the real problems Americans and the world are facing.
