Professor Stephen Hawking, a renown theorethical physicist has warned that the "God Particle" or more properly called, "Higgs Boson" can destroy our universe.
The "Higgs Boson" which was discovered last year by CERN is the fundamental particle that gives mass to the universe. Without it, this universe could not exist. In the preface of his new book "Starmus," Hawkings shows his concern that the Higgs Boson may become unstable. According to him, too much energy or 100bn gigaelectronvolts (GeV) will destabilize the Higgs Boson and cause the universe to rapidly decay into a vacuum. Hawking argues that this can happen at anytime and without warning. Humanity would not even notice it happening because it would occur at the speed of light in which light travels at 186,282 miles per second.
Naturally, this can occur if man puts his curious finger on the Higgs Boson and "overcharges" it so to speak. The possibility of this event occurring is slim. However, it is indeed possible. This is why there are some in the physics community who believe CERN must be extremely careful when it conducts experiments with particles. Without realizing it, the collider at CERN can create a blackhole which would engulf the Earth and Solar System within minutes. As it stands, we do not have the technology to even make a "run for it" to another star system. We will just be left to our demise.
As stated before, the Higgs Boson is extremely important in our universe. This is why the coined term "God Particle" was placed on it. Without this particle, the universe would not be; we would not be. If this particle were to be altered, it would literally destroy the universe. Think of it as a hard drive on a computer. If you alter just one bit of information on the OS registry, your computer will crash and will stop functioning. The same rings true of our universe. If we alter just one particle, it will destabilized the fabric of space and time and the universe will implode on itself within seconds. It would look like when you turn off your television set and you see a quick flash of light decreasing quickly in the middle of the screen.
This goes to show how intricate the universe is designed. There is an obvious order to how particles are set up and charged. These charges have to be specific in order for the universe to exist and maintain that existence.

"God Particle" Found!
After years of searching, the Higgs Boson or "God Particle" has been found. This will help Physicists understand better how our Universe works. See my other blog http://sacerdotvs.blogspot.com/2011/12/god-particle.html
I will update this post as more information becomes available. I am extremely excited about this find!
**UPDATE**
The Standard Model is now closer to completion than before. The Standard Model is basically a theory that lists the sub atomic particles that compose everything. It highlights the name, mass, charge, and spin of particles that compose the fermion or particles that have a spin that are the integer multiple of a half. In other words, the particles within the particles, or elementary particles.
This discovery is important because now we can understand better what gives mass to everything. We are aware of the forces that pull and repel particles, but what holds it all is what has been eluding us for decades. More is yet to be learned. We still do not understand what gravity is exactly. Hopefully the more we study the Higgs Boson the more we will learn what gravity is and maybe discover even new unseen particles and forces.

****Update March 6 2013****
Physicists are still not sure whether the particle found last summer is indeed the Higgs Boson. More tests are being conducted to make sure the particle is the one that has been theorized to exist and which is responsible for mass.

****Update March 14, 2013 ****
It is official! The particle believed to be the Higgs Boson is indeed the Higgs Boson! With only 126 times the mass of a proton, the Boson gives mass to particles.

"God Particle"
On Tuesday December 13, 2011 Physicists at the CERN made a big announcement regarding the elusive "Higgs Boson" or "God Particle."
This particle is believed to be what gives mass to the entire universe. Yes "believed" to be.. ironic right? Isn't "belief" a religious and superstitious concept? Not at all. Science and Faith are based on belief.
Anyhow, the LHC or Large Hadron Collider was activated to see if evidence of this particle can be observed.
Some hints were found but not enough to exceed the 3.0 Sigma requirement for data to be considered true evidence. Sigma as we know is a Statistical calculation. The detectors within the Collider are called ATLAS and CMS. ATLAS produced a calulation of 2.3 Sigma while CMS produced a 1.9. If a calculation of 5.0 Sigma is reached, then that is considered a discovery. Physicists were hoping for the latter.
The search continues. This particle is important because it will give more substance to the Standard Model, or a theory of how everything (matter, particles, energy -electromagnetic, nuclear) is held together and how it works in unison. It is basically a "blueprint" of the material universe.
From a Faith perspective, this will show empirically that the universe from the largest object to the smallest particle is organized intelligently. Chance is not a factor in this at all. These particles were not floating around and then one day just decided to collect and work with each other the way they do to form the universe and life.
This particle can help Science not only learn about the Universe, but also see the design behind it and how it has purpose or intention and was not created by accident.
I hope on the next attempt, we will get a 5.0 Sigma. Physics has always fascinated me since I was a child. What is the point of learning about Biology, Psychology, Math, Geology etc. if we do not know what makes everything and holds it together? It is the foundation of existence in the material sense. We need to know!
