Book Review: Lost in Faith and poetry

I have just finished reading the book "Lost in Faith and poetry" by author Mary Sayler. The book contains over 70 poems focused on God, faith, spirituality, praise and the soul's struggles. These poems are easy and rich in meaning. One can contemplate on each poem during quiet time or meditate on the words during prayer.  One poem that spoke to me was this one which goes:

Child, Child,
If God didn’t love you, no eyes, no ears
would weave into your gut, no
heart would arch into the inner soles
of your shoes, showing you where to go...

These short but reflective poems bring about deep reflection.   As a former atheist, being "lost in faith" is something that has occurred to me and still does.  Faith is a heavy topic which can exhaust the mind, body, and soul. Mary Sayler's book does not mask this.  She keeps it real in her poems which will touch the mind and heart.  I recommend getting this book which will help you in your spirituality and private prayer life.

New Book: Introduction to the Catholic Church on Sale!

My new and latest book, Introduction to the Catholic Church is now on sale.  The book is an apologetics book like you have never read before. It is well researched and addresses the challenges the Catholic Church faces today in the 21st century.

The book offers apologetics (Biblical, Theological, Philosophical & Scientific) against the arguments of Protestants, the LGBT, Atheists, and Pro-Abortion or Pro Choice advocates. This is a book every Catholic and those curious on the Catholic Faith should have!   The book is priced at 12 dollars in honor of the 12 Apostles.  Discounts can be made available on Createspace for those who want to buy in bulk or may be struggling financially (students etc).

The book was just released, so hopefully anticatholics will not post fake bad reviews without owning the book like they have with my previous books on Amazon. If they do, please ignore them.  Remember, if you have Prime you can get the book on Feb 6 per Amazon's site.  So if any reviews appear before or near this date which are not reviews I personally asked for from reputable people, you can disqualify them as fake because there is no way the reviewer could have gotten the book and read it.

The Kindle version will be on presale soon for $9.99 and will be released on the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11.

Here are photos of the proof copy I had received.  The book is 5x8 and filled with lots of information.

The purchase of my books will help me maintain this ministry and expand it. You will be helping to spread the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church to fellow Catholics, Atheists, Gays, Pro Choice advocates and others.

Book Review: The Rosary Handbook: A Guide for Newcomers, Old-Timers, and Those in Between

I received a review copy of Mitch Finley's book, The Rosary Handbook: A Guide for Newcomers, Old-Timers, and Those in Between a few days ago and will be reviewing it here.

The book is a short book with 143 pages.  I took about 30-45 minutes to finish it.  The Rosary Handbook gives a lot of insight into the most popular devotional prayer found in Catholicism. Author Mitch Finley wastes no time going into detail.

In the introduction and first chapter, Finley uses anecdotes to present the Rosary to readers.  Using personal stories, he presents the Rosary as something that is useful and fruitful in everyday life. At the same time, he shares the ups and downs the Rosary had during the Vatican II changes and how it made a comeback. The personal stories Finley shares help present the Rosary as more than just a prayer, but a way a life that is probably the first thing that identifies a Christian as a Catholic one.

Moreover, in chapter 2, he shares the history of the Rosary, going into detail how the devotional prayer developed from the Psalter into the version we use today.  Finley leaves no stone unturned as he shares that contrary to popular belief, the Rosary was not given to St. Dominic by Our Lady.  This may come as a shock to some Catholics, especially those who may not be too well informed about the faith and learn the easy "Sunday school" version of it in CCD or catechetical classes for First Communion of Confirmation.  However, Finley does not bash the Rosary or the Dominican order.  He shares the facts and does a good job at it.  Honest Catholics will appreciate the facts and the evolution of the Rosary throughout the centuries.  In chapter 3, Finley goes through each prayer of the Rosary giving "fun facts" about each.  Readers will especially enjoy this chapter because Finley does a great job explaining each prayer.  He goes line by line explaining what the phrases mean which will enrich readers and possibly bring them to say the prayers with more awareness as opposed to mechanically.

In chapter 4, he does the same thing as in chapter 3, but with the mysteries of the Rosary.  He begins by explaining what a mystery is and how the idea was incorporated into the early versions of the Rosary which would lead to the formation of the "mysteries."  Finley explains how the mysteries were narrowed down to 15 and then increased to 20 by Saint Pope John Paul II in 2002 when he added the Luminous Mysteries.  Chapter 4 is the longest chapter but is rich in the explanation for each mystery.  Finley uses Sacred Scripture to expound on each mystery which brings a lot of insight. This chapter will be very beneficial for those who really love to meditate using the Rosary. Unfortunately, some Catholics recite the Rosary mechanically, almost in a rush to get it in as if it were a chore.  Finley shares some wonderful explanations which help bring each mystery alive and shows the beauty of the Rosary.  Protestants who may read his book will realize that the Rosary is a visitation into the events of the Gospel and not "worship of Mary."

Lastly, in chapter 5, Finley explains the methods behind praying the Rosary using a chart and explaining what prayer to say, where to say it and what mystery to meditate on.  He meticulously goes through each so the reader who never heard of the Rosary or is curious to prayer it can do so with ease.  Once reading this chapter, the reader who may be a novice at the Rosary will become an expert praying it.

The book The Rosary Handbook: A Guide for Newcomers, Old-Timers, and Those in Between is a great read.  It is true to its title as a guide for newcomers, old-timers and those in between.  I wish I had this book during my transition from Atheism to Catholicism. It would have been a great resource for me as I searched Catholicism among other faiths.  The book has some grammatical and spelling errors such as on page 10 "twenty-firstst," nothing too serious.  It also fails to give credit to Our Lady of Fatima for the "Oh my Jesus" prayer on page 66. Another error I found is on page 59 where Finley states that the "Our Father begins the Liturgy of the Eucharist."  This is not correct.  The Liturgy of the Eucharist begins at the presentation of the gifts (see: http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/the-mass/order-of-mass/). I think what Finley meant to state was that the Our Father begins the COMMUNION RITE, not the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  In any event, these can be corrected and do not take away from the book as a whole.  Again, I recommend this book to all Catholics and those who are curious about the Rosary.  This book will enrich your knowledge and experience with the Rosary.  My only complain and wish is that the author should have put in a references section so readers can find where he got his information from and do further studying.  Hopefully, future editions will have one.  This book is a must have and should be on every Catholic's bookshelf.

My Children's Book: 'Atheism Is Silly' On Sale

The children's version of my book 'Atheism Is Stupid' is now on sale. I had announced the book in this post: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2016/03/childrens-version-of-my-book-atheism-is.html.

Many people had messaged me asking me to make a children's version of my popular 'Atheism Is Stupid' book.  After much thought, I decided to author one. The book takes the main ideas of the 'Atheism Is Stupid' book and simplifies them in a way that children ages 7 and up can understand. Children younger than 7 who have a strong grasp of vocabulary will be able to understand the text as well especially if the book is read to them.

The book presents arguments in favor of God using science and philosophy, making atheism and its conclusions look silly in comparison to the facts as presented by science and philosophy.  I believe that even adults will find this book useful as an introduction as it contains heavy ideas and terms in easy language. In fact, the book will help children learn about science and philosophy which will prepare them for their regular schooling!  My own nephew enjoyed it and is now fixated on space and physics!

The description says the book is 64 pages, but this is because of the font size and graphics used which took a lot of pages since the book is 8.5 x 8.5.  In reality, the text if shrunken to 12 font will be about 4 or 5 pages I believe.  I hope you will find this book useful for your kids and students.  It will protect children from the indoctrination of atheism early on so when they grow and go to college, they will be able to respond to atheistic rhetoric with ease and not feel as if atheism is somehow correct and has refuted religion.  'Atheism Is Silly' is the antidote to the atheistic/secular brainwashing children will face as they age.

This book is priced at $13.75 and money from sales will help with my evangelization. Discounts will be made available soon for those who want to buy bulk copies (i.e. catechists, clergy, religious schools, parents etc).

You can purchase your copy at any of these places or your local bookstore:

Createspace

Amazon

Barnes and Noble

My book will become available at other stores in a few weeks.  I will update this post when this happens.

Children's Version of my book 'Atheism Is Stupid" Coming Soon!

UPDATE 4/14/16 - Proof copy of the book.

Many have messaged me asking me to make a simpler version of 'Atheism Is Stupid' for children. Those who messaged me voiced their concerns of kids getting brainwashed in school and losing their faith because of it.   After thinking about it, I decided to make a children's book.  It will be much simpler so kids can understand it and will be educational.  I will update this post with news & pics. Pray for me!

'Atheism Is Stupid' Book Discount Coupon Code

St. Thomas Aquinas wrote his famous Quinque Viae offering arguments for the existence of God. While many of the points he made are dated and have been addressed by the philosophers and scientists of today, they are still great arguments to build new ones from which reflect today's knowledge.

My book, 'Atheism Is Stupid' uses science, philosophy, theology, history and other academic sources in order to refute many of the commonly used arguments in favor of atheism.  This book will empower theists and will bring atheists to question atheism.  Make no mistake, this book is not an 'apologetics' book using the Bible to defend the Bible.  This book is an academic work based on a popular blog series and my own life experience with atheism as an atheist.

It even has some atheists in panic mode. They have rushed to post fake reviews on Amazon in order to discourage avid readers from purchasing the book and have even falsely reported genuine reviews.

In honor of Aquinas, I will be offering a discount.
You can order the book at:

enter the code S9QSL9XP to take $5.00 off the list price.

The discount code will work until 11:59 PM EST on the Presentation of the Lord February 2, 2016.  So you have six days to get the book at the discounted price!

My Book 'Atheism Is Stupid' On Sale

My book, 'Atheism Is Stupid' is on sale now on Amazon and other locations. It will be available in your local bookstores in about 6-8 weeks, please request it with your local merchant to expedite the process.  As many of you know, I was an atheist most of my life and am now a Catholic.  In this book, I critique Atheism and many of the most common arguments and ideas that atheists hold and propagate on and offline.  This book is meant to show how 'stupid' the concept of atheism really is using my fields of study, the sciences, philosophy, theology as well as other fields of academia which I referenced.

This book is not meant to disparage atheists, only criticize atheism and refute it.  The book itself is part of a popular blog series.  Many more volumes will follow as there is much to cover on the topic of atheism which would have been too much for just one book. Therefore, expect more books to come in the near future. Hopefully, I will be able to get this current book translated into other languages.  This book will be an asset for theists of any faith in regards to helping them defend God against atheism.  It will also force those atheists who are objective to question their own atheistic beliefs.  This book is a must have for apologists, philosophers, scientists and the avid reader.

My Newly Published Book Coming Soon

Today is the feast day of Our Lady of Divine Providence and it is a special day not only for the Catholic Church but also for myself, personally.  On this day, my book has been completed and in the process of being published.

This book is 284 pages long and aimed to help both theists and atheists on their journey.  In the book, I use my fields of study in the sciences, philosophy, theology etc to build on my heavily researched premises. It will be available in many stores including Amazon, as well as in libraries and universities.

Here is the description:

Atheism is a social phenomenon that has existed for quite some time. It presents itself as the antithesis of theism. The version we see today stems from affluent Europeans during the so-called "Enlightenment" period. This atheistic propaganda comes across as chic and convincing despite being based on misconceptions and fallacious conclusions. In this book, atheism is dissected, scrutinized and exposed as being irrational, without substance and "stupid" by the author who has personal experience with atheism. Readers who believe in God will benefit from the dismantling of atheistic fallacies and misconceptions while objective atheists will question their own atheism.

I will notify everyone when it will be available for purchase and may post a video on YouTube previewing it.

This book would not have been possible without God's providence.  I dedicate it to Him, Our Lady of Divine Providence and St. Michael the Archangel.

Stay tuned... This post will be updated soon with more information and images.

UPDATE 11/24/15 - I have just received the proof copy and posted photos.

UPDATE 12/15/15 - Edits were done and the book is going to go on sale shortly.  I am waiting for the copyright and Library on Congress paperwork to go through.  Here is a preview of the table of contents.

Bible On Carl Sagan's Undergrad Book List

If you know me personally you will know that I am a bibliophile. My love of books has been around since I was a baby when my mom read to me and then I took the on the habit on my own. I personally own over 5,000 books on a variety of subjects, especially science, philosophy, classics, music, sports, and religion. Anyhow, the Library of Congress acquired recently a collection of the writings of the late Carl Sagan. In this collection was found his reading list from 1954 when he was an undergrad at the University of Chicago. The list was posted and ironically the Bible is listed as one of the books to read among philosophy and science books.

In another ironic twist, his protege Neil Degrasse Tyson also listed the Bible at number 1 in his list of 8 books to read. It still bugs me to hear or read comments from some atheists putting down the Bible as some irrelevant book, or more accurately; a collection of books. The Bible is a collection of books that not only tell the salvific history of God and humanity; it also gives a glimpse of humanity itself. In my opinion, it is the only book that captures humanity perfectly. As an atheist, this was what I noticed as I studied it. This collection of books has something unique and special about it. You can tell it truly is inspired by God as only an eternal being who knows the human mind and heart can inspire such a work of art that captures humanity throughout the ages perfectly since no man can live thousands of years.

Sagan and Tyson both know the value of this collection of books and rightfully listed it as one of the books intelligent people must read. While they may not agree with the theological or religious aspects of the texts, they both agree that this collection of books is important and a treasure for humanity. It has inspired great thinkers, scientists, philosophers, musicians, artists etc etc.  The Bible was the first book printed in western society and is the best selling book of all time. It is a collection of ancient texts that still speak to today and tomorrow.

Vatican says no to Yale Nun's Book

Margaret Farley pictured here looking more like a lay woman than a religious sister

The Vatican has recently criticized a book written by a nun, Sister Margaret Farley who works at Yale's Divinity school.  The book, "Just Love:  A framework for Christian Sexual Ethics" contradicts Church teaching and is scandalous because it was written by a Catholic nun.

Farley seems to not have a good grasp of Church teaching regarding sexuality.  She attempts to equate homosexual relationships with heterosexual ones.  Masturbation and other sexual acts are given validity.  This is unfortunate indeed.  It is important that every Catholic have a copy of the Catechism for reference.  We cannot rely on clergy, religious or lay people to teach in an orthodox manner.
