Reflecting on the Anniversary of September 11, 2001

We Said We’d Never Forget: Reflecting on the Anniversary of September 11, 2001

The morning of September 11, 2001, dawned bright and clear, a seemingly ordinary Tuesday in New York City. The skies were a crisp blue, and the late summer air carried the promise of a new day. People bustled through the streets of Manhattan, heading to work, sipping coffee, and navigating the familiar rhythm of urban life. In the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, workers settled into their offices, unaware that within hours, their lives—and the world—would be irrevocably changed.

We said we’d never forget, but as the years stretch into decades, the sharp edges of that day’s memory are beginning to blur. Society, distracted by new crises and the relentless march of time, is starting to let the weight of September 11 slip into the background. Yet, on this anniversary, we must pause to remember—not just the tragedy, but the courage, the sacrifice, and the humanity that shone through the darkness.

At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing 767 carrying 92 people, including 11 crew members, crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The impact tore a gaping hole between the 93rd and 99th floors, sending a fireball and plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky. Confusion rippled through the city. Was it an accident? A mechanical failure? As television cameras turned toward the burning tower, the nation watched in stunned silence. Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175, carrying 65 people, slammed into the South Tower between the 77th and 85th floors. The second crash erased any doubt: America was under attack. The images of those planes, swallowed by steel and glass, became seared into the collective consciousness—a moment when time seemed to stop.

The horror unfolded with relentless speed. At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, killing 184 people, including 59 passengers and crew. A fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, carrying 44 people, was hijacked and aimed for an unknown target, likely in Washington, D.C. Thanks to the bravery of passengers and crew who learned of the other attacks via phone calls and fought back, Flight 93 crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10:03 a.m., sparing countless lives at the cost of their own. In New York, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m., followed by the North Tower at 10:28 a.m., each crumbling in a matter of seconds, sending clouds of dust and debris choking the streets below. By the end of the day, 2,977 lives were lost, including first responders, office workers, airline passengers, and bystanders. The world watched, horrified, as the unimaginable became reality.

Amid the chaos, stories of heroism emerged, bright beacons in the darkness. Father Mychal Judge, a Franciscan friar and chaplain for the New York City Fire Department, was among the first to respond. Known for his compassion and tireless service to the marginalized—homeless people, AIDS patients, and recovering alcoholics—Father Judge rushed to the World Trade Center to offer spiritual support. He was in the lobby of the North Tower, praying and administering last rites to the injured, when debris from the collapsing South Tower struck him. Father Judge, 68, became the first officially recorded fatality of the attacks, his body carried out by firefighters in a haunting image that would later symbolize sacrifice. His life, marked by love and selflessness, ended in an act of profound courage, embodying the spirit of those who ran toward danger to save others.

Firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical personnel became the backbone of the response. Men and women like Firefighter Michael Lynch, who climbed the stairs of the North Tower to rescue trapped workers, only to perish when the building fell. Or Port Authority Police Officer John McLoughlin, who survived being trapped in the rubble for hours, later immortalized in stories of resilience. Ordinary citizens, too, became heroes. In the stairwells of the Twin Towers, strangers helped one another, guiding the injured to safety or carrying those who couldn’t walk. On the streets below, New Yorkers formed human chains, passing water and supplies to first responders. Across the Hudson River, boat captains and civilians organized an impromptu evacuation, ferrying thousands to safety in what became known as the “Boatlift of 9/11.” These acts of bravery and solidarity defined the day, reminding us that even in the face of evil, humanity’s capacity for good endures.

The shock reverberated far beyond New York. Cardinal Edward Egan, the Archbishop of New York, appeared on television that day, his face etched with fear and disbelief covered with soot and ashes. “God help us,” he said, his voice trembling as he grappled with the scale of the tragedy unfolding before him. A man accustomed to offering comfort and guidance, Cardinal Egan was visibly shaken, his words echoing the collective anguish of a nation. His presence on the airwaves, raw and unfiltered, captured the vulnerability felt by millions. Churches, synagogues, and mosques filled with people seeking solace, their prayers mingling with tears. The attacks were not just an assault on buildings but on the very fabric of society—its sense of safety, its trust in the ordinary.

In the days that followed, the world learned the scope of the plot. Nineteen hijackers, orchestrated by the terrorist group al-Qaeda and its leader, Osama bin Laden, had executed a meticulously planned attack. The hijackers, armed with box cutters and a fanatical resolve, exploited vulnerabilities in aviation security, turning commercial airliners into weapons. The targets—the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and likely the U.S. Capitol or White House—symbolized American economic, military, and political power. The message was clear: no one was untouchable. Yet, the response was equally powerful. Volunteers poured into Ground Zero, sifting through rubble in search of survivors. Blood donation centers overflowed. Communities rallied, raising funds and offering support to families shattered by loss. The phrase “United We Stand” became a rallying cry, a testament to resilience in the face of terror.

But as the years have passed, the unity and clarity of that moment have faded. We said we’d never forget, yet society is beginning to. The children born after 2001 have no personal memory of the day; for them, 9/11 is history, not lived experience. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, launched in response to the attacks, have ended, their outcomes complex and divisive. Political polarization has fractured the sense of shared purpose that once bound the nation. Memorials stand at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, but the raw emotion of the day—its fear, its grief, its defiance—has softened with time. Social media, once a platform for collective mourning, now buzzes with new controversies, new tragedies. The promise to never forget feels less like a vow and more like a whisper, drowned out by the noise of a world that moves on.

This forgetting is not deliberate but insidious. The demands of daily life—economic pressures, global crises, personal struggles—pull attention away from the past. Yet, the consequences of 9/11 linger. Airport security, once lax, is now a ritual of scrutiny, a reminder of the day’s lasting impact. The Patriot Act, passed in the aftermath, reshaped privacy and surveillance, sparking debates that continue today. The families of the victims, the first responders who still battle illnesses from toxic exposure at Ground Zero, and the veterans of the subsequent wars carry the weight of 9/11 in their bodies and souls. To forget is to diminish their sacrifice, to let the lessons of that day slip through our fingers.

The heroes of 9/11 remind us why remembrance matters. Father Mychal Judge’s life was a testament to service, his death a call to action. The firefighters who climbed stairwells knowing they might not return, the passengers on Flight 93 who fought back against impossible odds, the ordinary people who became extraordinary in a moment of crisis—their stories demand to be told. Cardinal Egan’s stunned plea for divine help captured a universal longing for meaning amid chaos. These are not just historical footnotes but touchstones of human resilience, courage, and compassion. To honor them, we must do more than pause for a moment of silence; we must actively keep their memory alive.

Society’s drift toward forgetting is not inevitable. Schools can teach the history of 9/11, not just as a timeline of events but as a story of human spirit. Communities can hold vigils, not out of obligation but out of reverence. Individuals can share stories—of the victims, the heroes, the survivors—with younger generations, ensuring that the weight of the day endures. We can visit the memorials, read the names etched in stone, and reflect on what was lost and what was gained. The promise to never forget is a commitment to carry the past into the future, to let it shape how we live, how we love, and how we stand together.

As we mark this anniversary, let us renew that promise. Let us remember the 2,977 lives taken too soon, the families left to grieve, the heroes who gave everything. Let us honor the resilience of a nation that, for a moment, set aside differences to stand as one. And let us pray, as Cardinal Egan did, for divine guidance in a world still searching for peace.

A Prayer for Those Who Perished

Eternal God, source of all hope and healing, we come before you on this solemn day to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We lift up the souls of the 2,977 who perished—the workers in the towers, the passengers on the planes, the first responders who ran toward danger, and all whose lives were taken by hatred. Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and let your light shine upon them.

Comfort the families who carry the ache of loss, the survivors who bear the scars of that day, and the first responders still suffering from its aftermath. Give strength to those who rebuild, who remember, who refuse to let evil have the final word. Inspire us to honor the fallen through acts of love, courage, and unity.

We pray for the heroes—Father Mychal Judge, the firefighters, the police officers, the ordinary people who became extraordinary. May their sacrifice remind us to live with purpose and compassion. Guide our world toward peace, that the pain of this day may never be repeated. And hold us, as you held those who cried out in fear and grief, with your boundless mercy.

God help us, as we strive to never forget. Amen.

President Trump Shot at Rally

There was a recent incident at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where former President Donald Trump was targeted in what is being investigated as an assassination attempt. Former President Donald Trump was indeed shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred when shots were fired, and Trump was struck by a bullet that pierced his right ear.

He received immediate medical attention and is reported to be recovering. During the rally, gunshots were heard, and Trump was quickly surrounded by Secret Service agents and rushed off stage. The shooter, who fired from an elevated position outside the venue, is deceased. Unfortunately, one spectator was killed, and two others were seriously injured.

Trump was taken to a local medical facility and is reported to be fine. The FBI is leading the investigation, and Attorney General Merrick Garland has condemned the attack as an assault on democracy. This incident has sparked reactions of horror and anger from various political figures and supporters.

As Trump was speaking with his usual flare and energy, gunshots could be heard. Trump slightly jolted and touched his right ear and the looked as his hand quickly before going down to the stage floor. Several shots could be heard in the background.

At first, it was believed Trump was gunned down by the way he fell down, but audio shows the secret service telling him to duck. They immediately went over him shielding him.  The numerous gunshots are believed to have been the secret service taking down the sniper.  The Secret Service quickly intervened, and the shooter was neutralized. Unfortunately, one spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured.

Trump is seen rising with a bloody ear. As the secret service try to remove him from the stage, he stops them and raises his fist in the air in defiance shouting "fight." He continued this pose throughout the path as the secret service was evacuating him. Onlookers could see his face dripping with bright red blood. Trump looked visibly shaken and in pain but defiant at the same time. He was rushed off to an undisclosed location which later on was revealed to be a local hospital where he was treated. President Trump released a statement on Truth Social.

President Joe Biden condemned the attack, emphasizing the need to unite against such violence. Several other political figures condemened the attack, specifically Nancy Pelosi, Churck Schumer, former presidents Obama and Bush, vice president Kamala Harris and several others.  Cell phone video seems to identify the suspect laying dead on a nearby roof. He looks to be wearing paramilitary gear.  As it stands, there is no clear motive for the assassination attempt. Whether it was politically motivated, terrorism or a lone wolf situation remains unclear.  There were reports of people seeing a man laying dead on the ground with brain matter scattered about him, however, it seems this was the attendee who was shot dead and not the sniper himself.

In any event, the assassination attempt brings up serious questions in regards to the secret service parameter set up. Many are asking how a sniper could have gotten so close to the former president in regards to shooting range. Some are speculating that this event was somehow stages or was an planned by political opponents looking to get rid of Trump.

Others are saying God protected the former president who was literally less than an inch from being killed like former president John F. Kennedy. Trump walked away with a grase wound. Part of his upper ear looks like it was shot off. Some on social media are showing screen captures of what seems to be a bullet hole on the suit jacket of Trump. Nothing has been confirmed in regards to any bullets hitting his torso.

It's a significant and concerning event, and more details are likely to emerge as investigations continue. In a presser held, officials said this shooting brings a lot of concern for the future. They are wondering how this happened with all the security present and screenings. There is concern that copycats out there will attempt the same with Trump again or even the current President, Joe Biden. If it was this easy to hit Trump, then no one is safe.  There are also reports of suspicious packages nearby where bomb swuads were called in to investigate. President Biden has spoken with President Trump.

New details say the shooter is a native Pennsylvanian man in his 20s. Law officials have been reluctant of releasing his name until there is further confirmation.  The deceased attendee at the rally and two other injured attendees are male.

Eric Frein Busted

The manhunt for suspected cop killer Eric Matthew Frein is finally over.  After a long 48 day search for Frein, he was found near an airplane hanger. He did not put up any resistance and identify himself to marshalls who arrested him. The search cost over $10 million dollars but has now restored peace and security to the areas he was suspected of hiding at.

Frein attacked two state troopers killing one.  The handcuffs of the officer who was killed were used to arrest Frein.  Even his patrol car was used to bring Frein in to face charges. Eric Matthew is known to be good with guns. He is a trained marksman and had a facination with military life. Frein had a disdain for the police and his unprovoked attack on the two troopers is believed to be as a result of his hatred for law enforcers. The country prosecutor has vowed to push for the death penalty for Eric Frein which hopefully will send a message to anyone in the nation who may think that killing cops is not a serious crime.

I am glad Frein was finally caught and will face charges for his crimes. Unfortunately 10 million dollars went down the drain because of him, so to speak. Nevertheless, Pennsylvanians can sleep better knowing this sociopath is in custody.  Since he loves the military so much and is a marksmen, perhaps he should be sent to Iraq and Syria to take out ISIS members.

Teen, Oral Sex & Jesus

LOVE INC OF BEDFORD COUNTY VIA FACEBOOK
Sometimes you think you have heard it all, but guess again...

A disturbed Pennsylvania teen is facing possibly two years in juvenile jail for desecrating a sacred object.  The 14 year old jumped upon a statue of Jesus praying at Gethsemane outside the headquarters of the "Love in the Name of Christ" Christian organization and began making sexual motions simulating oral sex with the statue.

Yes, you read that right.  This kid climbed on the statue of Jesus, put his crotch bulge over the face and started rocking back and forth as if the statue were performing oral sex on him.  A friend of this teen took photos and posted them on Facebook where the photos went viral eventually leading to the police being contacted. The teen was arrested and charged with the desecration of a venerated object.

Unfortunately, many on the Huffington post and other news outlets are voicing outrage over the possible jail time the teen may receive. They are excusing it as a "prank" or "boys will be boys" thing.  Seriously?  This kid is obviously mentally disturbed.  Antisocial behavior is one of the signs of mental illness. This was no prank or a "boy being a boy." What boy will be performing oral sex on a statue or anyone else?  This is not a "boy" thing. This goes to show how warped our society has gotten. They do not realize that this is a desecration of a venerated object and is religious hate. Imagine if we start calling Swastikas painted on Jewish homes or Temples "pranks" or a case of "boys being boys."  I seriously doubt they will not call it this and will say it is hate.

The fact that this boy, only 14 is simulating sexual acts shows how desensitized our youth have become.  Sex is presented to them via music, video games, movies, shows, the internet, sex ed etc. Then we wonder why teen pregnancy is an issue, kids are raping and molesting one another, the cases of teachers having sex with kids is rising, etc etc etc. Our society is becoming immoral and if we do not do something fast, it will only get worse.

In my opinion, this teen should be sentenced for the 2 years so he can learn his lesson and be an example to any other teens or adults out there who may be thinking of doing this as well.  If the kid gets off free, then this will encourage others to do the same or worse. The law must set an example that religious hate and the desecration of a venerated object must not be tolerated.

Ironically, this statue is a depiction of Jesus praying at the Garden of Gethsemane where He cried tears of blood because of the reality that He was about to suffer for the sins of humanity.

9.11.01

Wow how time passes us by.  Today is the anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks on the United States of America in 2001.  I remember this day like if it was yesterday.  The images and sounds are vivid in my memory.
September 11 will always be a date engraved in the minds and hearts of all who witnessed it, whether in person or on television. The events were indeed horrific. Planes were hijacked, people killed on them.

Those same planes were used as missiles by terrorists who crashed them into the World Trade Center's "Twin Towers" and the Pentagon. Another plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after the brave passengers thwarted the terrorist's plans to use the plane as another weapon - possibly aimed for the Capitol building or White House.
There are many questions we ask. One is why.
  • Why did this happen?
  • How can people be so evil to even think up these ideas and carry them out?
The answer is sin. The infection of original sin is transmitted by concupiscence as St. Augustine tells us. Concupiscence is a strong desire to seek what is bad and evil.  Evil, general bad things and sin appear to be fun or useful to humanity because of concupiscence.  Even good things are often perverted and used to do evil as well.   It is the "Id" gone wild, so to speak.

Some anti religious people claim religion caused Sept 11; however, that is not so. This concupiscence or desire to do evil is the root cause. Terrorists hijacked Islam in order to carry out these heinous attacks in the name of God. The reason was not religion itself, but politics. Those who feel the United States of America is an unwanted presence in the Middle East came up with a plan to bring this nation to its knees.  Similarly, President Obama is being warned now in 2013 not to put the United States in a situation that will make it the police of the world.  He wants to strike Syria.  This will most likely give terrorist the reason to cry out "Jihad" and plan attacks against America and our allies just like they did on September 11, 2001.

That plan in 2001 did bring the USA to it knees, but not in defeat. It brought us to prayer. America was reminded that while it is a super power, it is not the be all end all of the globe.

Unfortunately, America has been spreading many ideas that feed concupiscence.  In a nation that kills its own unborn children and which promotes promiscuity in the guise of "safe sex," attempts to pervert marriage, those who are spiritually mature can see the real battle that is going on between evil and good. (Eph 6:12)  Like Communist Russia, the USA has made many errors run rampant throughout the globe.

September 11 reminded us that we are not gods. We cannot live in this life thinking that nothing will happen or that we control every aspect of space, time and matter. America is not immortal.  Unfortunately, America learned this lesson the hard way.  Nevertheless, it was beautiful to see this nation become "e pluribus unum" in the days that followed the attack.  Everyone united despite differences. Churches, Synagogues, Mosques were full nearly every day. Everyone prayed, helped each other in a spirit of goodwill.  If only this would have continued even to today in 2013!
On September 14, 2001 President Bush declared the day the National Day of Prayer & Remembrance. Ironically on this date the Catholic Church celebrates the Triumph of the Holy Cross. It is also ironic that among the piles of dust, twisted steel beams and other debris, all that remained were 2 beams in the form of a Cross.

Was God telling us something? We cannot know for sure, but coincidences do not exist. Anything that happens in life has some reason.  It is Divine Providence at work.
  • But why would God use this violent event to give a message?
  • Why the loss of innocent people?

Those questions can go either way. However, we do know God brings good out of evil.

God is not evil, nor does the presence of evil take away from his all good essence. Evil is the absence of good. God sometimes allows evil to happen in order to bring good out of it. That good can be anything He wills.

Unfortunately it does take a bad event to wake people up.
  • Why can't people be united, help each other every day?
  • Why does it take a tragedy to bring everyone together?
Sometimes kids don't listen when parents calmly tell them to stop doing something that will harm them. It isn't until mom and dad raises his/her voice or uses some other form of discipline that the child presents his/her attention.

Humanity as a whole being God's children are not any different. God does sometimes use a strong way to get humanity's attention. We must pray, meditate, and grow spiritually in order to see what God's will is. America needs to wake up and not go the way of the Greeks and Romans whose societies became so licentious that anything and everything was allowed. There was no moral/immoral distinction; everything was "good."

Today we see abortion where some argue till they turn blue claiming that it is a good.  They will distort Biology and Embryology, even ontology in order to present Abortion as a mere surgical procedure instead of the murder of a human being.

Others push for marriage between same sex couples and to allow transgendered people to use either bathroom. Now they even want to make pedophilia normal.  This is an abuse of freedom.  It is a complete neglect of morals and conscience.  Society is reverting back to primitive times.

Where is the line between sanity/insanity and morality/immorality? America must pray, follow the Lord's will be truly be a Nation under God.
Let us pray to the Lord, keep His will and Commandments alive. We must worship God, love God and one another; not attempt to make ourselves God and oppress our brothers and sisters born or preborn.  We must not attempt to rewrite the Natural Law and redefine sex and marriage in order to appease evil intrinsic sexual deviance.

Osama Bin Laden was killed on May 1, 2011 and America has changed a lot since the attacks he planned and had carried out.  We have more security, have troops all over the globe.  However, have we changed our moral fabric which is dissolving?

Secularism is on the rise in America.  Democrats booed God at their convention in the last election and throughout America clubs promoting secularism and atheism are appearing in high schools and colleges.  They are confusing our youth and distorting God's word in order to make it seem as a 'fairy tale.'  Our nation is imploding.

As 2 Chronicles 7:14 says: " if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

President Obama read Psalm 46 last year which says:

1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.[c]

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see what the LORD has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields[d] with fire.
10 He says, "Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."

11 The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. (NIV)

How true is this Psalm. God is indeed our refuge and strength. But will He continue to be this nation's refuge and strength as we fall to absurd immoral ideas and ways of life?

Recently, Democrats booed God at their convention and throughout America clubs promoting secularism and atheism are appearing in high schools and colleges.

As 2 Chronicles 7:14 says: " if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Down He Goes!

Famed Penn State Coach Joe Paterno's statue was taken down today.  After reports showed that he help cover up the abuse done by Sandusky, university officials felt that his statue had to go.  I applaud their actions!  No such statue of anyone who covered up abuse should exist.

Above is a photo of the statue's head covered in "shame" and rightfully so.
To think that Paterno and other officials preferred to cover up crimes in order to prevent the name and prestige of a football team from being tarnished is sickening.

The statue should be sold and the monies transferred to the victims or to a charity that helps children who are abused.

Anyone who protected this statue should be ashamed of themselves.  No sports team or victories are above human life and human dignity.

This story reminds us that child abuse is everywhere.  Many ignorant people often label the Catholic Church as some child abusing institution and that is unfair and far from the truth. It is everywhere!

Justice WILL Prevail

"But whosoever shall offend one of these little ones who believe in me, it were profitable for him that a great millstone had been hanged upon his neck and he be sunk in the depths of the sea."  - Jesus Christ  (Matthew 18:6)

Today was a big day for victims of sexual abuse.  Monsignor William Lynn and Jerry Sandusky were found guilty in a court of law.  The disgraced Lynn was found guilty of endangering children due to his negligent handling of priests during his time in the chancery of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  Coach Jerry Sandusky of the famed Penn State University was found guilty of sexually abusing young boys, most who are grown now.  Lynn will possibly face 7 years in prison and Sandusky 442 years.

Abuse of any kind should never be tolerated.  However, when the abuse is done on a child, the disgust and hurt is much more.  Children are a blessing of the Lord. (Psalm 127:3)  To think that anyone would harm a child in the way that child sexual predators do is truly sickening.  Any harm done whether sexual or not is sickening.  A child is an innocent creature and deserves nothing but the best that life has to offer.

I am glad both of these individuals were found guilty.  The verdict does not erase the past, but makes an example of the accused - Child abuse will not be tolerated nor the aiding and abetting of it.

I love my Church dearly, but the transferring of priests with sexual problems from parish to parish was truly a mistake and quite frankly stupid.  Moreover, not reporting these sick individuals to the authorities is also a mistake and foolish.  The Church is not a law enforcement institution.  We are in the life of saving souls.  Sometimes saving souls requires "tough love."  Bishops and/or anyone in ecclesial authority who transferred priests with sexual problems and/or did not report their crimes to the authorities should be behind bars.

Moreover, officials at Penn State who did nothing regarding Sandusky should also be behind bars.  Once the first report against Sandusky was made, he should have been turned over to the cops.  The act of University and Church officials to put institutional prestige before victims is truly distasteful.  Both institutions exist to serve others, not to destroy lives in order to protect the institution's image.

I pray for all those brave victims out there who have come forward with their stories.  I pray that any victim still in hiding will come forward and report what has happened to him/her.

The Catholic Church has gotten much heat for the sex abuse scandals, however, the Church so far is the only institution that has gone the extra mile to protect children and adults from sexual misconduct.  I hope other institutions follow.

Justice will prevail always!

Planned Parenthood Defunded in Penn?

Planned Parenthood in Pennsylvania might be defunded.  We can only hope and pray that this is the case.  This evil empire of death must be shut down.  How many more women and children will be killed or injured before the government steps in?

HIV-Positive Student

A young 13 year old boy was denied admission to a Boarding school in Hersey, Pennsylvania because he is HIV Positive.

This news is causing a big debate regarding HIV and the youth.  Should kids with HIV be allowed into Boarding schools?

Well according to the Milton Hersey Boarding school the answer is no.  The school claims that this young child is a health threat to other students.  Being that students live at the school, officials fear that this young student will have sexual relations with other students and contaminate them with the HIV virus.

While I applaud the school for making an effort to protect the students, I feel they have gone a bit too far.
  1. First their presumption that these kids will be sexually active is exaggerated.
  2. Second, HIV is not spread with a sneeze, handshake or any common physical contact.
  3. Third, the "HIV Cocktail" is known to prevent the HIV virus from making a home in the immune system if taken after sexual relations with someone who is infected.  However, the rate of success is about 95%.   Nevertheless it is still effective.

I hope this school will allow this student to enter and not give him anymore trouble.  HIV is still a serious infection, but education is the best way to defeat it.  We can control it now better than we did in the 1980's.
