Minions

I have just come out of the movie theater after watching "Minions" with my nephew. The movie is based on the lovable yellow creatures from the "Despicable Me" franchise.  "Minions" is set up to tell the origin and purpose of the Minion character.  It begins showing "Minion single cell" organism swimming in a primordial soup. They evolve looking for a "boss."

As they evolve to their current twinkie shaped yellow form, they continue to seek a leader.  First a tyrannosaurus was chosen by the Minions, then a caveman. Both leaders succumbed to the clumsiness of the Minion creatures. They then become servants of the Egyptian Pharoah, but accidently kills him and the Egyptians by dropping a pyramid on them.  The movie then fast forwards to 1968 where three of the Minions (Kevin, Bob, Stuart) settle in New York City.  While there, they encounter a secret broadcast infomercial for "Villian Con."  This is a convention specifically for villains and would be held at Orlando, Florida.  The three Minions are intrigued and make it their mission to go to Orlando.  They do this by attempting to hitchhike. While doing so, they encounter a family of robbers who drives them to the convention. Orlando is presented as swampland instead of the city it is today. The Villian convention is held underground.  At the convention, the minions try to apply to be servants for villains present but fail to impress them.  Their skills are "not evil or a talent" as one character informs one Minion.  The main event at the convention entails a presentation given by the biggest villain of them all: Scarlet Overkill who is voiced by Sandra Bullock.

Scarlet Overkill is looking for henchmen.  In order to become her henchmen, she challenges those villains participating into stealing a red ruby from her hand.  Several villains try but are beaten up by the quick and skilled Scarlet Overkill. However, one of the Minions gets caught in the scuffle and loses his teddy bear.  The ruby ends up in the Minion's mouth.  Scarlet is surprised and makes the Minions her henchmen.  She takes them to England where she has a compound.  The movie mocks British people by highlighting the stereotype of large teeth, aloof personalities and rigidity. Moreover, there is a scene where the Moon Landing is also mocked.  The minions enter what appears to be a movie studio where the Moon Landing is being filmed.  Lastly, Anglicanism is also mocked. An Anglican bishop is described as "squishy" as Scarlet squeezes his cheeks.  A scene in the movie shows the Minions busting through a stain glass window of what looks like three bishops in the "hear no evil, see no evil..." pose with the covering of eyes, ears.  However, the last bishop on the window is covering his crotch.  It seems this may have been a jab at the Anglican community of maybe even the Catholic Church in regards to the sexual abuse scandals.  It seems that the message conveyed is that the bishops do not acknowledge evil.

Moreover, Scarlet orders the minions to steal Queen Elizabeth II's state crown.  The Minions attempt to do so but fail at first.  The Minion Bob does capture Queen Elizabeth's buggy, but she refuses to hand over the state crown.  They struggle at the Sword in the Stone location where the Excalibur Sword is impaled. The Minion Bob pulls out Excalibur using robotic arms and the cops who came to rescue Queen Elizabeth begin to bow before him.  Queen Elizabeth then hands Bob the state crowd with a frustrated reaction.  She abdicates the throne and Bob becomes King Bob.  Meanwhile, Scarlet views the coronation and becomes upset believing the Minions betrayed her.  She wanted the crown for herself and wanted to be crowned as Queen.  This is when she goes after the Minions.  They willingly give her the crown, but she imprisons them in a dungeon instead.  The Minions escape and try to apologize to Scarlet during her coronation but accidently drop a huge chandelier from the cathedral on her.  She interprets this as an attempt to kill her and orders other villains gathered at the coronation to go after her.

The Minions make an escape  and run into Queen Elizabeth in a pub drinking with men.  Two of them are captured while Kevin is left to rescue them.  Meanwhile, other Minions are traveling to England to meet their three brothers there.  Kevin attempts to rescue Stuart and Bob but is outnumbered by the villains Scarlet sent after him. He ends up in her compound and enters a machine that makes him grow into a giant.  As a giant, he rescues Bob and Stuart who are tied up in a pile of TNT.  Scarlet finds out and goes after him with her robotic dress.  She fires rockets at him but is unable to defeat him.  She then tries to fly off with her husband, but Kevin holds onto her.  Her rocket lifts him up into the sky where the stress of Kevin's weight as a giant causes the dress to explode. The Minions all gather and watch.  They believe Keven is dead, but he appears parachuting down with his overalls.

Queen Elizabeth II is restored as the monarch and celebrates the three Minions who rescued England from Scarlet.  She hands them gifts and gives Bob's teddy bear a crown.  However, Scarlet and her husband appear and take the state crown.  They try to make a run for it but are then frozen by a young fat boy who turns out to be young Gru from Despicable Me.  The minions are in awe of this kid as he gets away in a ship and go after him seeking him to be their boss.  Bob in the meantime returns to Scarlet and gives her the crown Elizabeth gave to his teddy bear.  So the ending shows how the Minions and Gru came to be acquainted.

The movie starts out slow but then the story begins to build up.  It is full of funny moments, especially the typical silly clumsy comedy that children love. There is some nudity in the form of a sumo wrestler with his butt-cheeks showing and later on, Bob is seen in a thong walking showing his butt cheeks as he walked into a pool.  No foul language is used in the movie, but some innuendos are made that only adults will notice.  Overall, the movie was fun. I was surprised to see many adults and even teen boys present at the movies today along with children of all ages.  The movie deals with the themes of greed, loyalty, belonging, and heroism.  The Minions is a movie for people of all ages and can be used to teach children about morals.   Photos posted here were taken by me using my phone.

Michael Coren Leaves Catholic Church

Popular Catholic apologist Michael Coren has left the Catholic Church and joined the Protestant Anglican community. Last month, there were rumors that he had converted.  The Catholic blogosphere was buzzing on the topic.  I first learned of it here:

http://catholicsacristan.blogspot.com/2015/04/why-catholics-are-wrong-michael-coren.html

He is also mentioned on the Toronto's Anglican community Facebook and parish bulletin, see:

After reading those posts, I decided not to post on it until I heard it "from the horse's" mouth, so to speak.  Well, that time has come.  Michael Coren in an interview on the National Post, a Canadian online publication, Coren confirmed that he did, in fact, leave the Catholic Church for Anglicanism.  His reason was same-sex marriage.  He claims that it bothered him that same-sex couples could not be allowed to love.  He claims to have felt like a "hypocrite.  Apparently, while still giving talks at Catholic conferences, he was attending Anglican liturgies.

Immediately after learning of his conversion, his schedule speeches and an appearance on EWTN were cancelled.  EWTN has even pulled his books off of their Religious Catalogue site.  He even tweeted on it:

Church Militant TV host Michael Voris took to his vlog to criticize Michael Coren's decision.  See:
http://www.churchmilitant.com/video/episode/the-vortex-michael-coren
http://www.churchmilitant.com/news/article/michael-coren-leaves-the-church

I agree with most of what Voris said, but he was a bit harsh and facetious in my opinion. Nevertheless, Coren believes that the Anglican community has a valid Eucharist and this is not so. As Voris stated, this denomination was founded on sin.  Henry VIII ironically wrote a book defending Catholicism just like Coren did, but the late king of England changed his mind when it became personal.  His desire for divorce forced him to create his own parody of the Catholic Church.  Since its creation, this denomination has set aside the Bible and Tradition in favor of modern errors, especially relativism.  It boggles the mind as to why this educated man would leave the one true Church.  However, I think I can relate to what he is feeling.

Coming from an atheist background, I held ideas that were obviously contrary to Catholicism.  As a Catholic, some things still bother a bit or make me feel uncomfortable in regards to the Church's teachings and/or attitude and how it relates to others.  What I mean by this is that because I have gay friends it is sometimes hard to reconcile my beliefs now with their lifestyle while at the same time trying not to offend them.  This is, of course, a natural human response. However, it is not about me or my feelings.  It is not about me offending anyone, but about the truth in Jesus Christ.  So while my beliefs may bother my friends and I do not want to lose that status with them, my priority is Christ. That being said, I will not forsake Christ and the Church's teachings based on my natural human response.

Instead of attacking Michael Coren, we need to understand where he is coming from and pray for him.  He clearly is falling into misguided compassion.  His natural human response of misguided compassion is not allowing him to see the truth clearly.  This is similar to former priest Alberto Cutie who left the Catholic Church for the Episcopal denomination simply because he could not keep his celibacy promise. Again, he let his natural human response (finding a mate) get the best of him and cloud his judgment. The same happen to the popular preacher, John Corapi.  See more here: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2011/12/wolves-in-shepherds-clothing.html

We must keep these fallen Catholics in our prayers.  Only God can convert them.  Our emotional responses (often negative) to their abandonment of the faith will not help them.

Church of England has 6 years

According to Tim Thorton who is a bishop of the Anglican church, the church of England has six years of existence.  He cites the poor attendance, decline in funds as reasons for the extinction of this branch of Protestantism. This isn't news at all.

The church of England has been apostate since its founding when Henry the VIII demanded that the Pope and Archbishop of Cantebury grant him a divorce from Catherine of Aragon in 1534. He forced Church officials to swear allegiance to him as the "supreme head of the church of England," reject the Pope all so he can get his divorce and marry his mistress Anne Boleyn.  This church of England was born of sin and it will die of it. The fat bastard obviously suffered from narcissistic personality disorder.

In the same tradition, this church of England continued to water down the tenets of Christianity to the point that nothing is recognizable.  See: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2014/07/anglican-synod.html. From ordaining female clergy to recognizing value in homosexual unions, this church was a failure to begin with. A recent synod even removed Satan from baptismal rites. If there is no Satan, no evil to reject, then there is no sin.  If there is no sin, then what's the point of getting baptized and having a church?  This is why this church failed. People want truth that gives hope and sanctifies, not compromise with erroneous worldly ideas that bring sin and vice.

Before secularists and atheists can celebrate, the Catholic Church has opened her arms to receive Anglicans already with the installation of Anglican ordinariates thanks to Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Holy Mother Church will never succumb to the world.  http://www.ordinariate.org.uk/

Anglican Synod

"...they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen" Romans 1:25

The words from Sacred Scripture cannot say it any better. Recently, the "Church" of England has its General Synod where both clergy and lay people participate. Instead of a dignified council like that of Vatican II, it looks more like a meeting at Congress.

Anyhow, this General Synod publicly revealed how back this Protestant denomination has gotten. The Synod approved the consecration of female bishops which Catholic and Eastern Orthodox leaders have described as being a huge block towards Christian unity via ecumenism.  Moreover, they voted to take out the Devil from the Baptismal rite which calls for those being baptized to renounce Satan and all his works and empty promises.  It has also voted to make vestments optional, opening the door to liturgies where celebrants can wear a t shirt and jeans.

This "church" has gone to hell, literally!  It has lost whatever sense of Christianity it had since its foundation by King Henry VIII. The removal of the devil was based on the complaints of Anglican priests who claimed churchgoers were confused about this.  Come again?  How can a churchgoer be confused about Satan and sin?
Has England gotten so bad that its citizens do not know who Satan is?  I think even atheists there know about Satan!  These priests are full of nonsense, for lack of a better term.  One of their clerics, Robert Paterson even stated that the devil is a cartoonish character basically indirectly claiming he does not exist and is just an invention.

The ordination of females as bishop is another big issue. Only men can be priests.  This is how Christ wanted it reflecting the marriage of the bride with the groom mentioned in Revelation. Not allowing women to be ordained is not an attack against women or a statement that women are inferior; rather, it is a reflection of the person of Christ as a male who is the groom of the Church. Have female clergy would basically turn the relationship between a priest and the Church into a Lesbian union.  This is unacceptable and a complete mockery of the priesthood of Jesus Christ.

Furthermore, the option use of vestments is a big issue even though it just deals with clothing. While clothing is just clothing, the Church has set aside certain forms of clothing to honor God and show the dignity of prayer and worship. The vestments the clergy use is not meant to show social status or to be a sign of vanity.  They are meant to glorify God. This is Biblical as well. God in the Old Testament was very specific on how He wanted the ancient Hebrew Liturgy to take place. It will jsut be undignified to see a cleric celebrate Mass in shorts, jeans or whatever he happens to wear that morning.  Granted, if a priest is in a poor area or even on a battlefield, then vestments may not be an option and a Mass will still be valid as long as the rubrics are followed; however, the use of vestments is indeed important.

It is said that the Anglican community has succumb to this.  However, it is no surprise.  This faith community was founded out of the need to break God's law.  Henry VIII created his own Christianity in order to give himself a divorce which is not possible in the Catholic Church, the original Christian community founded by Jesus Himself. That being said, hearing of the Anglican community once again defying God and Christianity is not shocking. This "church" was founded upon conforming to the world and sin.  However, many Anglicans have already joined the Catholic Church out of disgust for their Anglican church.  It has sunk further into the cesspool of apostasy and many of its followers left it to join the bark of Peter.  Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI - a genius- formulated a way to bring them home to Rome while at the same time allowing them to keep their Liturgies. I predict many millions more will come home to Rome and the "church" of England will fall faster than London's bridge.
