Ocala - Marion County Raises Confederate Flag
Shortly after the Confederate flag was removed from statehouse grounds in South Carolina, a new battle has begun further south in the "sunshine state." Florida's Marion County had a rally in Ocala, where about 1,500 vehicles and 5,000 residents from different states showed up with the "rebel flag" celebrating "Florida Southern Pride Ride."
The flag was removed in Ocala after administrators ordered its removal. However, it was overruled by other leaders who voted against the measure. Protestors claim the flag is "about heritage and not hate." However, it is interesting to note that the participants are mostly Caucasian males. The movement to preserve the "rebel flag" is small, but it is vocal. Only time will tell if it will be successful in keeping the Confederate flag alive on public grounds.
