Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today we celebrate the feast day of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This day was celebrated since about the 5th century in honor of Our Lady. The account of the birth of Our Lady is found in the Protoevangelium of James, a apocryphal Gospel written about 150 AD. The feast day falls exactly 9 months after the Immaculate Conception.

Our Lady's birth is very important to the Christian faith.  Without Mary, Jesus would not have had the vessel from which to enter the world as the Incarnate Son of God.

Let us take this day to reflect on Mary's birth and to thank her for saying Yes to God's will that a child be born to her who would save the world.

Happy Birthday Blessed Mother!
