The Rosary, an object of violence?

A high school student from Minnesota got into trouble at school for wearing Rosary beads.  Jake Balthazor wears the Rosary beads in support of his grandmother who has been having health issues.  The Rosary was a gift from her.  However, school officials do not see it this way.  They claim that police informed them that local gangs use Rosary beads as an identification mark for their gangs.

This is unfortunate.   The Rosary is a Sacramental that must be treated with respect.  It is not a "gang symbol."  Police should focus on cracking down on gang activity instead of monitoring what they wear.  Religious brothers and sisters wear them on their habits.  Will they be harassed as well for looking like "gang members?"

The attack against religion continues.  This is not the first time a student has been harassed at school for wearing a Rosary.   Students should be able to wear any Sacramental and not be harassed.
