Yankees Opening Day

Today both the Yankees and the Mets made history.  They both had their opening day on the same day.

However, the Mets had a better day with a win over the Padres 11-2.  Meanwhile, in the House that George built, the Yankees' ace Sabathia struggled on the mound against the Yankees all-time rivals, the Boston Red Sox.  The Yankees fell to the Red Sox 8-2.  It was fun watching long time Red Sox, Kevin Youkilis in pinstripes.

Unlike previous Yankee openers, this year was very different.  It was not a sell out and one could notice the many empty seats in the stadium which was built in 2009.  This is a serious problem for the New York Yankees since they spent a lot of money building the new stadium with its many amenities and also spend a lot on salary.  As a result, the prices of ballgames are extremely high.  I won't even mention the prices of food...

The Yankee team itself is in need of a overhaul.  Most of its players are too ripe to be on the field, hence, the many injuries the Yankees have been experiencing.  The Yankees need to look for younger talent instead of focusing on near-to-retirement players.  They also need to figure out how to get the prices down.  In this economy, it will be extremely difficult to get people in the stands with the prices they have.
