One shot too many...

Just a few hours ago in New York City's Time Square, a man armed with a butcher's knife was gunned down.  Police followed the perpetrator until he began showing signs of aggression.  He was apparently smoking marijuana and when the police approached, he took out the knife and led them down an avenue.  Pepper spray was used, but the 51 year old did not surrender.

 I understand the need for the NYPD and its members to protect themselves, but this man only had a butcher's knife!  He could have easily been taken down by the myriads of cops that were following him.   A simple wound shot would have done the job instead of gunning him down like an animal.  It is disturbing that the perpetrator of Aurora's shootings was not gunned down while having military grade weapons in possession, but this 51 year old was who only had a kitchen knife. News sites and blogs will not light up with all kinds of views. **UPDATE AUGUST 13, 2012** The suspect who was killed is identified as: Darius H. Kennedy
