Holy Week

The Holy Triduum now approaches, or the Holy Three Days that consist of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. These are the holiest days of the liturgical year. We commemorate the passion, death and resurrection of Christ.

On Holy Thursday we remember the last supper when Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood. During Mass, the celebrant even washes the feet of 12 men as a reminder of the same act Jesus did.

On Good Friday we remember the passion of Christ by having the service of the cross where we read the passion, meditate on it, adore Christ and his sacrifice on the cross. Some Hispanic, Philipino, and Italian cultures actually reenact the steps of Jesus by having processions throughout local streets.

Finally, on Easter we celebrate and remember that Jesus conquered death and sin by resurrecting. We too remind ourselves that though we die, we will eventually resurrect at the end of time. We renew our baptism vows as well. Let us take this time to remember Our Lord's work on the Cross, His mission as Messiah, and our place in that mission as co-workers of the Kingdom of God.
