'Reason Rally' 2016 A Huge Flop: Epic Fail

Many alleged online atheists claim that atheism is on the rise or "unstoppable," but this past weekend's "Reason Rally" shows otherwise.  Just as in the first one held in 2012 (see: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2012/03/reason-rally.html), the 2016 one was an epic fail. It was expected that 30,000 would attend. However, a few thousand only attended. The flopped forced "Friendly Atheist" Hemant Mehta to post on his blog excuses as to why the rally was a failure.

His excuses are laughable to say the least. He dreams up every kind of irrational reason as to why the rally failed. I will refute each here briefly

Friendly Atheist: 1) People didn’t know about the event.

Sacerdotus replies:  Seriously? I am no longer an atheist and still knew this event was going to happen... so did my atheist friends! The event was promoted on many podcasts, blogs, Atheist Tv and other media. The event was promoted mostly online which is where the so-called 'New Atheism'  movement lives on.

Friendly Atheist: 2) The atheist “base” wasn’t particularly excited about the event.

Sacerdotus replies:  What!?  Of course they were excited about this otherwise donations and other sources would not have come in to fund the event. Moreover, why would they not be excited about the event if "atheism is growing?"  Perhaps, atheists are starting to realize that their cause is dying out and did not want to waste their time.

Friendly Atheist:  3) Large segments of atheist activists were not represented onstage.

Sacerdotus Replies:  There are not many atheist actives to begin with. The "regulars" Dawkins, Krauss, Mehta himself, Harris, Dennett are always the ones present anyhow, so who are these other activists Metha is referring to? They never showed up before because they do not exist.  If atheism is as popular as atheists think it is, then atheists would have showed up regardless of who was speaking. The reality is that atheism is just not a strong movement. Mehta listing that there were no atheist bloggers, Youtubers, podcasters etc is a lame excuse.   

Friendly Atheist:  4) The event took place in the summer.

Sacerdotus Replies: The event took place in summer, therefore it fail? Seriously Mehta??  First of all, it is not even summer yet.  Summer begins on June 20, 2016!  Moreover, it is during the summer that many events take place. The weather is better to be outside in and people are off from school and work!  Using summer as an excuse is really ridiculous and shows how desperate the "Friendly Atheist" is in his article trying to rationalize (poorly) why the "Reason Rally" was a flop.

Friendly Atheist:  5) The novelty wore off.

Sacerdotus Replies:  Again, if atheism is such a growing movement that is popular and "contagious," then the "novelty" would not have worn off. If the "novelty wore off" then this means that atheism is not as attractive.  Then again, atheism has the lowest retention of any religion (see: www.sacerdotus.com/2012/06/with-age-comes-wisdom.html)

Friendly Atheist:  6) There was no sense of urgency.

Sacerdotus Replies:  This is another corny excuse. Mehta claims that "in 2012, marriage equality was still not a reality" as if atheism is about progressive political agendas. Atheism is an ideology the professes the idea that God does not exist. The so-called "New Atheism" faction of atheism goes a little further by trying to censor free speech and religious freedom. Atheism is not about so-called "gay marriage" or even abortion. Again, we see how desperate the "Friendly Atheist" is trying to explain away the failure of the rally.

The truth of the matter is that atheism is dying. While the number of people attending religious services is declining, this does not mean that atheism is rising. These people still believe in God, but have lost faith in the institutional part of religion. This is a problem that can easily be fixed with evangelizaton and Christian charity. Once these people feel at home in their former religious faiths, they will come back.

I find it funny how Mehta tries hard to explain why the Reason Rally was a failure. He is being dishonest as usual and refuses to acknowledge the fact that atheism is dying. More and more people are realizing that its speculative reasoning and nonsensical arguments which lack evidence do not hold up against God, reason, the arguments and evidence for God.

The failure of the Reason Rally left the "Friendly Atheist" scratching his head. Perhaps the release of my book 'Atheism Is Stupid' is the cause of the poor attendance at the Reason Rally? hehe

Sacerdotus Hangouts: Atheist Open Mic

Since I began evangelizing on Twitter, Facebook, Google + and elsewhere online, many atheists have engaged me via these platforms.  However, due to limitations regarding how much can be typed and the exaggerated rules regarding spam and abuse, I decided to start a new format to engage atheists on. Hopefully, online atheists will take advantage of this new format which will be live and neutral. They can address me in real time and not have to wait until I have free time to respond to their messages.  Moreover, this will separate the real atheists from the trolls who pose as them on social networks.   

Unfortunately, many online atheists hide behind tweets and comment forums. This gives them a sense of security and many times sets up theists for trolling.  I hope "Sacerdotus Hangouts: Atheist Open Mic" will counter this and truly create a platform where a discussion can be had without trolling and nonsensical postings.

Duc in Altum Group

As a former atheist, I know very well how atheists operate and what misconceptions and questions they have. I will share their tactics with members and teach them how to refute atheism.

Real Free Thinkers I

Atheists often say with a glare of arrogance that they are "Free Thinkers." They insinuate that those who believe in God are not "Free Thinkers." Once such example is that of the Hemant Mehta, also known as the "Friendly Atheist." In one video I viewed on youtube, he sarcastically and arrogant says that to those who say to him that they will "pray for him," he replies, "I'll think for you."

The phrase is as corny as it can get. Atheists make it seem as if they are the only ones that "think." In reality, everyone thinks. Just because someone does not share your views or opinions does not make them less of a thinker than you. The phrase "free thinker" really is debatable as I demonstrated in this post http://www.sacerdotus.com/2014/04/atheists-are-not-free-thinkers.html.  If you watch the "Friendly Atheist's" videos and/or read his blog postings, you can tell he is not well read.  He is far from a "free thinker."

Nevertheless, there have been great free thinkers in history.  Today we in the Catholic Church celebrate one.  He converted to Catholicism, became and bishop and is one of the greatest "Fathers" of the Church. He is also spoken of greatly in philosophy, psychology, history, and even science courses.  His name is St. Augustine of Hippo.  You can read more about him in this post: http://www.sacerdotus.com/2013/08/st-augustine-of-hippo.html

Augustine of Hippo was a true free thinker. His thinking, studies and the prayers of his mother St. Monica led him to realize that the Christian God is the one and only God.  Other gods were just man's attempt to define the one and only God. Augustine didn't rely on arguments of the day in regards to God and faith.  He came to the conclusion by himself. Uniting himself to the one and only God, or the "Logos," allowed him to grow even more in wisdom.  He helped expound upon and formulate with great articulation and reason, many of the Church's doctrines.

Unlike today's atheists who rely on outdated irrational arguments from the 17th and 18th centuries, Augustine thought freely. He applied the Hellenistic philosophies which were in circulation at the time and improved on them with his own thoughts and ideas nourished by the grace and wisdom of God. Atheists of today have difficulty pushing their ideas due to the fact that they are indefensible. The many self proclaimed "rationalists" go about the social networking world posting all kinds of lies and distortions in order to make atheism attractive. These pettifoggers go about using mordant statements meant to bait theists into discussions that seem fruitless.  They get caught in their own circular argumentation.

This is not free thinking. It is merely a bloviating form of discourse that engages nothing but the atheist's ego and inner intellectual insecurity.  Augustine was a true free thinker. He thought outside of the box, so to speak. This is what a true free thinker does. He/she does not regurgitate the codswallop rhetoric of thinkers before him/her.    

Atheism = A-Fraud IV

Truth is something we all seek. Atheists claim to seek the same and often rely on science for this task. However, there is a problem with this. Science is NOT atheistic.

It is not the anti-faith or anti-religion. Science exists to study the observable environment which is this world and the universe it exists in. It is not the sole means from which we acquire knowledge or truth.  Science constantly changes as evidence for theories change.  Sometimes, theories are recanted and thrown out when evidence does not serve it.  In contrast, truth is something free, something that has no constraints.  It is unmovable and withstands any criticism.  

Atheists are quick to reject religion, faith and even philosophy in their quest for "truth." However, truth is not something we can just find by using experiments or microscopes.  As stated in the first paragraph, science constantly changes.  What scientists push as fact today may become nonsense years from now.  Back in May, astrophysicist Neil Tyson Degrasse who has gained fame for his zealous push for science and his enthusiasm for it, attacked philosophy during a Nerdist podcast interview.

Immediately, my former philosophy professor, Massimo Pigliucci went on the defensive and took Dr. Degrasse to task on his remarks against philosophy.

Pigliucci explains the importance of philosophy, not only in general academia and life, but also in science.  As a child, I loved philosophy despite not knowing the term. I would always think about things, ask questions and wonder why everything is, why were are, who we are, what are we etc.  I wanted to know it all - still do.

As I grew in age I then learned that this was "philosophy." However, science also took hold of my curious mind and it was more tangible than philosophy. What kid does not like a "hands-on" approach to things?  I recall the time I was experimenting with electricity and took out the lights on the entire block... but that is a tale for another time. :)

My mom would accompany me on class trips to museums, parks, the Hall of Science and the Hayden Planetarium which like Degrasse experienced as a child himself and said it changed his life. I share the same sentiment.  Seeing the planetary displays and information on the universe as well as the space show really left an impact on me.  I was fortunate to visit it again with my nephew and his own class and got a bit emotional reminiscing of my own first visit.  The expression on his face as well as the faces of his classmates is unforgettable and again reminded me of my own expression years ago.

I digress -

Science, as I have stated, is tangible. This makes it attractive to most of us, especially atheists. It also gives the false illusion that it answers everything and provides incontrovertible truth.  This is far from the truth (no pun intended).  Science only tells us what our hypothesis, experiments and instruments allow it to tell us.  It is limited in that regard.  Therefore, it cannot give us "Truth" per se, or the Truth that never changes.  Truth must be forever, unbending to time, opinions or emotions. Science cannot provide this.  For a time I did subscribe to "scientism" or the idea that science answers everything and is the only source of truth.  Again, science is tangible, it gives results that can be measured, touched, experienced.  Professor Pigliucci's lectures helped me make the transition.  I saw how philosophy does work with science thanks to him.  However, philosophy does not provide complete truths either.

We in the Christian faith rely on Truth.  Because of this, we are often mocked as relying on "faith" or unproven doctrines as "truth."  However, when I say that Christians rely on Truth, I mean a person.  Truth for us is a person: Jesus Christ.  Pope Francis spoke of this during a general audience in Rome on May 15, 2013 (see:http://www.ewtn.com/library/PAPALDOC/f1genaud8.HTM)  This "person" is what former atheist blogger Leah Libresco saw in her studies regarding morality. She became Catholic in 2012 and left many in the atheist community, especially the "friendly atheist" speechless, bitter and mad. 

I, just like Leah Libresco and a host of others, also saw this "person" who is Truth.  Science, philosophy and other fields of study are fun and we do learn from them, but they do not give us "Truth." They give us glimpses to the Truth, but not it in its entirety.  This is why atheism does not help in the quest for truth.  It hides behind science and never truly ponders the questions that really matter.  The questions that will augment the progress of science and other fields of study. Atheism is a fraud because of it.  It presents itself as the platform from which one can discover truth, it is not.  The atheist seeking for truth while remaining in atheism is like a dog chasing his/her own tail.  He/she goes nowhere but around and around in circles until dizziness sets in and fatigue brings him/her down.  It is the placebo for the intellectually gullible.  
  

Book Review: Because God is Real

The book, "Because God is Real, Sixteen Questions, One Answer" is written by Catholic philosopher Peter J. Kreeft who is a regular on EWTN.

In his book, Dr. Kreeft answers several questions regarding God, Faith, the Bible, Morality, Sex, Catholicism, prayer and other topics. He goes in depth answering each while at the same time keeping it simple.

Dr. Kreeft provides several philosophical and "common sense" proofs for God and expounds on Aquinas' own five proofs. Each proof is rational and easy to understand.  This book is not written in academic prose, but to the average reader.  Humor is often included in the text in order to lighten the reader's mood as he/she absorbs and processes the information in each answer.

This book can be read by those of high school age and older. However, Confirmation age students can benefit greatly from it as well.  The book will most likely not convince atheists in academia about God's existence since the book is not written for an academic audience.  However, it does make one think and do more research.  Dr. Kreeft is excellent at explicating difficult philosophical and theological concepts. In any event, the book is great to have if you are seeking simple answers regarding faith and proof of God.  This book is an "entry level" of sort for those in the Catholic faith or curious about faith in general.

I recommend this book to young Catholics preparing for Confirmation, high schoolers, youth groups, families with adolescent children, Catholic home schoolers, youth entering college, older "cradle" Catholics seeking to enrich their knowledge or refresh it, and atheists who are curious about God but do not want to get confused reading heavy philosophical and theological texts with academic jargon.

Lumen Fidei

Lumen Fidei is here!

Pope Francis' first Papal Encyclical completes a set of three initiated by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.  The encyclical is relatively short (4 chapters) and is a good read.  High school age children up to adults should have no problem with the text.

The Holy Father in the encyclical relates Faith to Light and how without light we cannot see or navigate in the world.  He uses instances in Scripture to highlight this.  Both Benedict XVI and Francis show us how faith is a primordial gift from God.  It expounds on our natural existence and allows us to see beyond the confines of the material state that we live in and which some perceive as the only existence.

Lumen Fidei criticizes the use of scientism, or the idea that every thing must be tested by scientific methods in order to be accepted as truth and credible.  The first chapter begins with the story of Abraham and his faith in God.  It explains how faith then was a precursor to faith in Christ.  The Hebrews were "traveling" to God, as it were.  Chapter 2 speaks on faith and truth and criticizes relativism.  Both faith and truth co-exist and are necessary for the human being.  Chapter 3 deals with faith within the Christian life and how it interacts with our sacramental lives in the Church.  Chapter 4 speaks on how faith helps not only the believer but society as a whole by promoting the common good.

In closing, Lumen Fidei is a powerful document and a perfect addition to the Year of Faith.  It shows the importance of faith and why we cannot let human advancements, scientism and the like to impede faith in our lives.  Without faith, we become cold and self-centered.  We become like dogs sniffing around for evidence in order to advance in thought and as a whole.  This is not what the human being is all about.    

I recommend all to read the encyclical, not just Catholics.  It will serve to increase your faith and will open your mind to it if you have been setting it aside.

Atheism - a crime against Humanity

Atheism is growing in popularity due to the social media.  Facebook, Myspace, Twitter et. al, provide an atmosphere where people can voice questions and comments they normally would not direct to clergy of any particular faith.

In my life working in the Church, I seldom see anyone approach a priest or deacon and question God's existence.  However, while surfing the net, I see thousands upon thousands of blogs, twitter accounts, facebook profiles all voicing all kinds of questions and comments regarding God.

Why is this?

The internet provides a sense of anonymity among its users.  One can be anyone online.  With so many screen names to choose from, one can simply pick one and do whatever - granted TOS rules allow them.

Because of this, atheists have taken the internet as their temple, so to speak.  In it they gather and pat each other on the virtual shoulder in an attempt to get support they normally would not get in real life.

Now back to why atheism is a crime against humanity.

When I write that atheism is a crime against humanity, I do not necessarily mean that it is some entity that abuses humanity in ways similar to Nazism and the like.  What I mean is that it robs humanity of humanity.

Human beings are distinct creatures on earth.  They are aware of themselves, can think, express themselves via language and other means and feel emotions.  Human beings can also think in abstract ways.  Their brains can think beyond the physical parameters of this universe.

As children, we went through many stages of development.  Piaget gave us certain terms that define these stages.  Infants begin to use their sensorimotor intelligence which allows for them to combine their sensory input with their motor skills in order to make sense of the world.  They assimilate this information and compare it with what they already have processed.  Those ideas are accommodated or adapted to old ideas or even replace them to make new ones.

We thenbegin to use emotions and apply them in appropriate settings by means of self-regulation.  As we advance in age, we begin to "experiment."  By means of preoperational thought, we go through the static reasoning, irreversibility, conservation and animism stages.  In static reasoning, we reason that nothing changes around us.  In the irreversibility stage, we reason that nothing can be undone.  Conservation is the idea that a substance amount remains the same even if its appearance alters.  Animism is the belief that all things are alive in nature, including inert objects.

Play during these years is extremely important.  Archaeologists have found toys dating thousands of years which shows that playing with toys has been a part of human development since man has walked this Earth.  During play, children can use their imagination.  This, alongside animism, helps the child's cognitive abilities expand.  Without this kind of play, children will not develop creativity and abstract thought.  They will solely rely on physicalism as their platform to form thoughts and ideas.  Abstract art, music, even geometry would not be possible since neither exist in the physical realm.

This is where atheism would be a crime against humanity in the developmental sense.  Atheists do not believe in God or the supernatural.  They do not allow themselves the ability to process ideas that are not relative with the physical realm.  Atheism would foster a world based on static reasoning and conservation.

Atheists like to pride themselves in being "rational" and "logical."  They measure all things against "reason" and "logic" in order for it to be truthful and valid for assimilation.  In a sense, they imitate Star Trek's Spock, or his Vulcan race which applies and lives by logical premises.  In the Star Trek series, we see how Spock despite his intelligence, always struggles to understand even the simplest of things.  Star Trek always presents the human being as the real smart one despite having "human qualities" that may appear inferior to other intergalactic species.

Logic and reason are fine.  They serve us well.  The key word is 'serve.'  These concepts exist to benefit us, not the other way around.  We do not exist to be logical or rational in a sense.  To be human is to sometimes do the opposite of what logic and reason tells us.  This is how we experience "thrills."  This is how we learn.  In a world that is stoic in nature, we would not have amusement parks, music, dancing and other forms of entertainment.  We would find those "illogical."  Any such attempt to try these activities would go against one or more logical premises.

Concepts such as emotions, affection and love would not fit in a logical world.  They cannot be measured empirically and are based on introspection so they must be disposed of.  It is no wonder why Spock's race stresses the purging of all emotion.  Emotion is seen as irrational and illogical.  The Vulcans in the series often mock human being's for possessing this "inferior" trait that, according to them, makes them unfit.

Atheism is on the road to this absurdity and repression of humanity.  In a world where atheists would dictate rules and scripts for society, we would see the mental state of individuals plummet.  People will be repressed and will go mad without the ability to use imagination and abstract thought.  Ironically, the Vulcans at a certain age go mad due to repressed emotion and "Vulcan nature."

The vision that atheism and humanism have for the human being is not a good one.  It is one deprived of humanity.  It is a pseudo version of human nature that is destructive.

VMAT2 shows that we are hard wired to seek God and the supernatural.  Our brains are wired to think beyond this universe and into the unknown.  Philosophy, religion, music, art, even physics and mathematics would not exist if we suppress this part of our mind to look beyond the physical.

Atheism would be a crime against humanity.  It will destroy the human race completely, or leave it incapacitated biologically and psychologically speaking.

Happy holidays..yeah right!.. it's MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Christ Jesus is the Reason for the Season, not Commercialism, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus and all these other distractions. Christ is the reason why we even get days off to celebrate, decorate and enjoy time with family and friends in December. It is unfortunate that other cultures choose the same time to celebrate their recent customs such as Kwanzaa and so forth. Even Atheists attempted to create their own "holiday" by adding to Festivus a few years ago which was a ridiculous attempt and childish I must say.


Christmas is the ONLY legal holiday, not Hanukkah or Kwanzaa.  This is not an attack on my brothers and sisters in the Jewish and African communities, so don't misinterpret please.  What I am trying to convey is that Christmas is the only day that is legally a holiday in the United States of America and therefore should be respected and treated in a unique way instead of pushed aside.  

It is so ridiculous how people try to change the words "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays."  Some even have gone so far as to change the words to the song, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"  to "We Wish You a Happy Holiday."   This is an epic capital "SMH" or "Shaking My Head" trigger.  When Stupidity, Bigotry and Secularism mix, we get these results.  


Christmas is the official legal holiday so therefore it is: Merry Christmas.  If that offends anyone, then they need to get over it because it is the law. 


 There is no valid reason to ban Nativity Scenes in Cities or Towns, or use Snowmen, Wreathes and Santa Claus to replace Christ.  It is not "Snowmenmas," or "SantaMass,"  it is CHRISTmas.    

Jesus Christ, Son of God - Son of Mary took on the form of sin to save us from sin and ourselves. 

This is His Birth Date!   

Christians stand up for our Lord!   Say Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays.  Remind others that Jesus is the Reason for the Season.  Do not be afraid!

Atheism Blunder

Atheists often present themselves as being "intelligent," "rational" or some how "enlightened."  They go about criticizing religion and calling those who believe unintelligent, primitive, delusional and what not.  However, recently an atheist group called "Backyard Skeptics" caused another "foot in mouth" moment for the atheism belief cult.    

The California based group paid for a billboard with the image of the third President of the United States of America, Thomas Jefferson with the quote, 'I do not find in Christianity one redeeming feature. It is founded on fables and mythology.'  This quote according to the atheist group was thought up by President Jefferson; however, historians have corrected them by stating that this is not the case at all.  President Jefferson NEVER said or wrote this quote which the atheist group falsely attributed to him.

Once again, atheists have shown their dishonesty by using false propaganda to spread bigotry against God and religion.  They misinterpret facts and/or fabricate them in order to cause division, confusion and scandal.  By doing so, they commit a huge blunder and are made to look like morons - ironically the word they use to describe theists.


On Twitter I have had my share of encounters with atheists who try hard to make themselves feel educated and correct by presenting a nonsensical spin on history, facts and by using a play on words.  Some memorable moments were with tweeters: @askegg @steviebryant @SkepticalSkotty @_7654_ @sapient_ape @heathen_chick @RosaRubicondior @dredpiraterob and others who tweet some ridiculous fallacious ideas regarding science and religion. Some were not even aware that it was a Catholic priest (Fr. Georges Lemaître) who formulated the Big Bang Theory! :-)  So much for "reason..."
