Many people simply "turn up" as spectators and go home again and never think about God until they come back a week later. If you bring a child to Church but don't mention God in the other six days of the week, it's no wonder people get confused.

However even those parents that are very devout believers, who do mention God in every day of their lives perhaps don't have a very good way of describing "why" and tacking the answers many people have. So they simply "go to Church" and hope their children get the same connection they do.

I have children - we all go to Church together - if we didn't go there would be questions why. Not just from me, from them too.
One day they might choose not to (like I did for many years) but hopefully they would return to God, just like I did.

>>>>>>> Kids being taught fundamental religious values are at greater risk of a bad development. There taught Bigotry, disregard for science and of morals

What's moral about abortion or a school giving young girls the morning after pill without telling their parents? What's moral about a school indoctrinating children into thoughts about being transgender? What's moral about promoting sexual activity between two people of the same sex? Is sodomy something you feel is good? Please tell me your definition of morals.

And where do you people get this notion that Christianity has a disregard for science? There is a myth out there that God & Science are in a boxing ring and both standing at opposite corners.Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06232937388325384126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827824285101179434.post-66972142162023359042016-03-19T02:56:54.461-04:002016-03-19T02:56:54.461-04:00Hi,
>>>>>>> I, as an atheist...Hi,

>>>>>>> I, as an atheist, would like to say that I'm not an atheist because I despise christianity (or any other religion for that matter) nor it's followers.

I think the author of this page believes that atheism robs peoeple of something and that is why it's a crime against humanity - it certainly isn't an attack against atheists.

I am sure the same argument could be turned around and used the other way, i.e. someone might want to attack Christianity but not Christians, etc. etc.

>>>>>>> I'm an atheist because I like the idea of having explanations for things that happen everyday

Miracles happen every day. People become cured of illnesses that baffle doctors. Even atheists visit spiritualists / mediums to try and "connect" to the other side. Many atheists visit tarot card readers etc. It seems to me that atheists don't mind all these things (and more) but start to talk about "validating claims" only when it mentions God.

>>>>>>> I have a question though, how can people say the more "sciency" parts of the bible are true? Science has proven most of them wrong on many occasions, such as the earth being flat, Big bang (read up on cosmic background radiation for proof).

Where has science proven the Bible wrong? Where does the Bible say the earth was flat? I believe the Bible says "four corners of the earth" but that means "North, South, East & West".
Also I believe the Bible mentions the word "globe".

I also believe that it was an atheist who came up with the flat earth theory in the 17th century and that a Catholic Priest first talked about the "big bang".

Perhaps the author of this page can explain more about these claims.

Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06232937388325384126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827824285101179434.post-72938787686849892712013-09-16T00:55:12.754-04:002013-09-16T00:55:12.754-04:00As the other people to post have also said I do in...As the other people to post have also said I do indeed question the existence of any god to any member of the religious community whether they be a generic christian or a priest, even going as far as to say if I was given the opportunity I would definitely question the existence of god to the pope.

As for the point about Atheists not having for want of a better word any imagination as your part about play seems to indicate, Atheists don't simply say everything that is not physical is not real therefore no imagination for you. I as a 19 year old still enjoy playing video games even though I know a lot of the things in them is entirely fictional. Atheism will not destroy children playing and turn all people into conformist emotionless robots, simply reject irrational beliefs.

Now if you are saying in this post that you believe children when playing with a toy dinosaur actually believe that it is a real dinosaur and that they are a giant compared to it, I do see where Atheists may come in and get rid of that belief but they would not stop the child from playing with the toy dinosaur.

As for the part about VMAT2 as I have seen that mentioned in several of your posts, Hammer (the guy that published the study about VMAT2)
said in his book "Just because spirituality is partly genetic doesn't mean it is hardwired." (admitedly that quote is grabbed from this wiki page however it is sourced there, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_gene ). On top of that the actual study he published is incredibly contriversial and is yet to be published in any credible scientific journal. So as such what you have said about VMAT2 is basically an outright lie.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03593178670248147908noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827824285101179434.post-54942429521981946832013-09-13T15:00:52.491-04:002013-09-13T15:00:52.491-04:00I'm an Atheist and after reading this there ar...I'm an Atheist and after reading this there are a few points I would like to make. He claims Atheist only question religion over the Internet. I went to a catholic school and have been dragged to church, we do question religion in person. We don't scour the Internet looking for constant validation. He claims the lack of creativity and an over reliance on logic will disrupt development in kids, really? Yes put more emphasis on logic but is that bad. He takes it out of proportion comparing us to Vulcans, I dont compare religious people to primal aliens of star trek. Kids being taught fundamental religious values are at greater risk of a bad development. There taught Bigotry, disregard for science and of morals. Claiming Atheist are in somehow harming children is mossinformed. We aren't Satanist we are just a slightly more logical version of you.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16100624607649425850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827824285101179434.post-23193771858039032442013-04-12T09:05:28.360-04:002013-04-12T09:05:28.360-04:00I, as an atheist, would like to say that I'm n...I, as an atheist, would like to say that I'm not an atheist because I despise christianity (or any other religion for that matter) nor it's followers.

I'm an atheist because I like the idea of having explanations for things that happen everyday. Explanations that I can recreate and test it's validity. The explanation that God created everything just doesn't appeal to me. Does that make me any less able to think in an abstract/imaginatory way? No, it doesn't.

I have a hard time understanding what makes you feel atheism is so bad? I'm not judging you, nor should you judge me. God lovs everyone, remember?

I have a question though, how can people say the more "sciency" parts of the bible are true? Science has proven most of them wrong on many occasions, such as the earth being flat, Big bang (read up on cosmic background radiation for proof).

So, stop judging everyone that doesn't share your belief.

Have a good day.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827824285101179434.post-24771453471940145522013-04-07T19:40:22.395-04:002013-04-07T19:40:22.395-04:00"In my life working in the Church, I seldom s..."In my life working in the Church, I seldom see anyone approach a priest or deacon and question God's existence."

Questioning a deity's existence isn't a crime. You seem to just be offended by questioning.

Also this entire blog seems to dance around the fact that there isn't any evidence to prove the existence of a deity. Rather than provide evidence you just rail at how wrong it is to question and that you think atheists are wrong. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
