Case Study: Rosa Rubicondior Revealed

"RosaRubicondior" unmasked
"No man is happy without a delusion of some kind.  Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities."

This quote is from C.N. Bovee who was a writer and friend of Washington Irving who wrote the famous "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."  His quote rings true in the individual I am about to expose in this post.  This person lives a delusion.  The delusion is so great that the individual has built an online career on it.

This individual claims to be an atheist and blogs with a passion on atheism.  At one point, this person even tweeted on Twitter many fallacious ideas full of religious hate until Twitter put a stop to the abuse via permanent suspension. The blog as it stands has many fallacious arguments and conjectural premises attempting to unify atheism with science.  Scientists know that atheism has nothing to do with science and vice versa.  Nevertheless, it is not uncommon to read atheist propaganda and find many inaccuracies, faulty arguments and the like.  As David Bentley Hart puts it in his "Atheist Delusions" book:

"But atheism that consists entirely in vacuous arguments afloat on oceans of historical ignorance, made turbulent by storms of strident self-righteousness, is as contemptible as any other form of dreary fundamentalism.  And it is sometimes difficult, frankly, to be perfectly generous in one's response to the sort of invective currently fashionable among the devoutly undevout, or to the sort of historical misrepresentations it typically involves...  These are attitudes masquerading as ideas, emotional commitments disguised as intellectual honesty.  However sincere the current evangelists of unbelief may be, they are doing nothing more than producing rationales--ballasted by a formidable collection of conceptual and historical errors--for convictions that are rooted not in reason but in a greater cultural will, of which their arguments are only reflexes."

How true are Bentley's words!  They describe very well the blog postings of the individual I will reveal in this post.  The blog masquerades as intellectually sound and scientifically literate; however, a close inspection of the material will produce a conclusion quite to the contrary. It makes one wonder if the author ever graduated from a university.  The prose and context used; the argumentation is poorly articulated. To an educated person, it actually presents atheism in a negative light. However, to the uneducated, the blog presents itself as being academically and logically sound. In all honesty, the content on the blog would not pass the scrutiny of scholars and academics whose life work is philosophy, rhetoric, biology, physics and theology.  This is unfortunate indeed.  It makes me wonder if this person is even an atheist or just looking to profit over the gullibility of them.

Ever since the internet became public and AOL was the dominant service provider with its chatrooms and instant message service, there have been a class of users commonly called "trolls."  A troll by definition is, "a person who sows discord on the internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community either accidentally or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or otherwise disrupt normal on-topic discussion"(Indiana University: University Information Technology Services, 2009-05-05).  Most atheists on Twitter and other social networks can be classified as such.  However, there is one in particular who obviously suffers from mental illness to the point of taking internet trolling seriously and making a career out of it.  This person goes by the online pseudonym "Rosa Rubicondior" which derives from a Japanese anime series and also a poem.

For a few years, "Rosa Rubicondior" used Twitter to harass Christians, Muslims and even other atheists who did not share her views as you can see in the tweets above of an atheist who experienced "Rosa Rubicondior's" bipolar episode first hand.  This kind of behavior is anti-social in nature and comorbid with what is called "Online Disinhibition Effect."  Online Disinhibition Effect causes people to feel uninhibited online.  He or she will have a more open sense of expression and do things that he or she normally would not dare to do in real life, or offline. They are often rude, offer harsh criticisms, dislike criticism; demonstrate anger, hatred and make threats.  These people do this because the anonymity the internet offers gives them a "cover" to do these things without revealing who they are.  This empowers their anti-social behavior because they feel they cannot be caught. The latter behavior is comorbid with Online Disinhibition Effect and is called "Dissociative Anonymity" (Suler, J. (2004).  Since a person with Online Disinhibition Effect can hide behind screen names, pseudonyms and the like, they feel powerful. They can become whomever they want.  This fantasy can take them anywhere in their warped minds.   MTV's show "Catfish" reveals some people with this disorder. They use the internet to lure victims into their web of lies by pretending to be something or someone they are not.  These people do this because of lack of self esteem and other manic disorders that are underlying in the person's psyche.

The blogger and troll "Rosa Rubicondior demonstrates these disorders.  She was for a time popular among other so-called atheists for the anti-social antics she demonstrated online.  She even gathered over 7,000 followers on Twitter.  However, all that changed when she was suspended permanently from Twitter because of her abuse of trademark laws by using the image of an old lady Halloween mask, abusing other twitters, twitter's own rules, spamming twitter, and abusing a minor who she mistakenly believes is me.  This person literally lost her mind after she lost a debate with me by running away. (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mw5C0LlkcY)

She began to defame me by relying on heuristic representativeness in order to piece together "evidence" and by doing so, creating an identity in order to place that identity on me; of a high school minor. She immediately claimed that she had "exposed Sacerdotus" with her post which is nothing more than conjecture and fabrications made to look presenting. These posts only convince the ignorant and those who fall into the conjunction fallacy and not intelligent readers who critically think about what they read and question any claims made in what was read.  Some of her followers believed her lies and till this day repeat them by harassing me and other Catholics online. Anyone can join me on Skype or Google hangouts to see I am not the person "Rosa Rubicondior" believes I am.  I have nothing to hide.  As a future priest and former atheist who worked in many scientific fields with renown professors, I am a public figure and known in those respective communities.

However, not everyone bought into her lies.  Others saw the fraud behind this woman and are now avoiding her.  Furthermore, to counter her lies about me I offered to skype with her so everyone could see us and who we really are.  My hopes were that we both show our passports so all can see that we are two distinct people and would know our names.  What better way to confirm identity than by showing government issued passports?  However, as expected with anyone whose scam is questioned, she refused to do this.  The reasons for her refusal are obvious:

  1. She knew once people saw I am not the child she thinks I am via my passport, they would ignore her.
  2. She does not want to show herself to the world for whatever reason her distorted mind adopts due to her Dissociative Anonymity disorder.

Nevertheless, her plan to remain anonymous has come to an end as you see her here in just a bit.

After her suspension, she even returned to Twitter as "Rosareerected" which give a hint of the sexual deviancy that parades in her warped mind.  She then returned as "RosaResurrected," "Saucerdotus" and several other names desmontrating her need to be relevant which is a sign of Narcissistic Personality Disorder.  All of these accounts were of course suspended after Twitter was informed. She still uses some which I and others have been monitoring, including atheists.  She is now full time on Facebook posting her lies and fallacious blog posts.

"Rosa Rubicondior" is so delusional that she continues to add on her blog Twitter accounts which are not even mine!  Her paranoia further demonstrates her mental instability. Moreover, anyone (including atheists) who question her blog posts or her intentions will automatically be identified as "Sacerdotus" or "Manny." It is just absurd at how some atheists even pay attention to this sick person. This is why I surmise that atheists who follow this lady and defend her are in fact her, or sock puppets which she uses to defend herself by pretending to be other atheist individuals.  It would not surprise me at all if this was the case. Her psychosis is demonstrable in her prose and online behavior. Luckily I have her IP address when she contacted me and will proceed from there.

Thankfully, "Rosa" is not very bright and is not shy with her abusive behavior.  She gets every chance to try to defame me or bring me up in a post.  She does this of course in order to bring in hits to her blog. As of lately, some atheists such as David Viviano have attempted to ride on the wave of my popularity in order to garner attention for themselves. While this also brings more attention to my work, it also does a disservice to "Rosa" and David Viviano.  Their attempts to ride on my popularity has allowed me to view their apparent scams regarding online donations.  Oxfam representatives notified me that no one named "Rosa Rubicondior" ever donated to their charity. They also disputed the amount and claims made on the "Rubicondior" blog.  You can inquire as well and will receive the same response.

I will continue to press this matter as well as the Viviano matter of donations with both Oxfam and the IRS.  The reason why is because I do not want innocent atheists to be fooled into donating to these sketchy individuals or anyone else without verification.  If "Rosa Rubicondior" provides better evidence that she does donate adsense funds to Oxfam, then I will call down my investigation. Screen shots with photoshop work does not cut it as evidence.  Similarly, if Viviano can demonstrate the intention of his mendicant behavior on twitter and elsewhere, then I will not pursue the investigation with the IRS.  A few individuals have questioned my own request for donations.  I believe these individuals are sock puppets of "Rosa," nevertheless, I am glad they are questioning.  They should also question any solicitation done by atheists to other atheists as well instead of questioning me just for the sake of deflecting from my questioning of "Rosa/Oxfam" and Viviano's request for money. Let us be fair here.

Those who donate to my work get a message explaining how to report their donations to the IRS for tax deductible purposes. Moreover, as a member of a religious institution in the United States of America, I am not required to show how donations are used under the law unless goods or services are exchanged which is not the case here. If anyone has noticed, I did restore my url domain name which was expensive due to the fact that it is a premium url domain name. In an ironic twist, thanks to "Rosa Rubicondior" and others who write blogs or tweets on me, the name "Sacerdotus" has become popular with search engines raising the value of the url sacerdotus.com.  That being said, if I lose it again, then it will be even more expensive to reacquire!  Rest assured I will try my best to keep the price I got it for now and not have to pay any increases in value.

According to http://www.siteprice.org/website-worth/www.sacerdotus.com, this is the value now:

Atheists and others need to be careful with "Rosa Rubicondior" and other scams out there. "Rubicondior" has demonstrated publicly her anti-social behavior and is capable of anything as we can see with her many posts defaming me and someone named "Manuel" who she thinks is me. Ironically, a few atheists called her out on this claim.  One even provided documents from the high school in the Bronx "Rosa" claims I went to.  He too had been labeled "Sacerdotus" and "Manny" for being a real atheist and not believing anything unless evidence is presented.

While I value free speech and expression, I feel that people like "Rosa Rubicondior" go too far when they resort to defamation and posting libelous content.  What does she get out of lying about me and making claims that I am "Manuel" when her information is conjecture and the schools she mentions all attest that no such person named "Manuel" attended classes in them?  Luckily, her nation, the United Kingdom has passed tough laws regarding internet trolls and cyber-bullying. Offenders can face up to 2 years in prison if convicted (see: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-29678989).  In light of this new amended law, I am working with friends in England to proceed with a case there against "Rosa Rubicondior." Being in America does not prevent me from using the court system of an alien nation.  She lives on 6 Thistlecroft Close in Oxford England.  I know this because it was verified and she also posted it on my blog which makes it public and excuses me from any breach of Google's policies regarding posting private information. Moreover, I also have her IP address, photo and other information which are also public.

"Rosa Rubicondior's" home Source Google Maps

Some of you may be thinking, "Sacerdotus is going too far, he should let it go."  I have contemplated it because she obviously got my information wrong, but as long as this person continues her lies; and if I do not do anything about it, then I would be an accomplice to her bad behavior.  She will most likely do it with someone else who gets the best of her.  It is sad that a simple request to have fun debate turned into this ridiculous back and forth charade. This is testament to the low emotional intelligence "Rosa Rubicondior" has that she feels the need to start and continue this "battle" over nothing.

As a Christian I am called to forgive; however, being that she posted defamatory content against me and possibly a child, I must do the right thing and pursue it legally now that the United Kingdom passed a law that effectively prosecutes cyber trolls and bullies who misuse services such as Twitter, Facebook and Blogger in order to defame others. The case should be easy to prepare since "Rosa Rubicondior" has made her libelous statements publicly and promotes them.  The intent to abuse, defame is there.  Moreover, she has others promoting them including other residents of the United Kingdom who also would be charged as accomplices via the Malicious Communications Act.  Thank God I have friends, both Catholic and Atheist who have been secretly documenting everything.  I have the information needed to pursue a case in the United Kingdom against her, a guy in Kent, as well as in America in regards to a man in Connecticut, Minnesota and other states.  These people think they are anonymous, but they have no idea how public they are. A simple filing at the clerk's office in the court brings about a lot of things which can be done without anyone realizing it.  Google, Twitter, Facebook are not above the law.  When pressed, they have to provide information requested of them.  I will pursue the matter as long as the defamatory content remains.

Where here she is, "Rosa Rubicondior."  The old hag was unmasked to reveal another old hag. :)

"Rosa Rubicondior" thanks to Jeff and Peter for the information

One can see in the dark cold eyes, fake smile and stiff upper lip the attempt to hide the chaos in this individual's warped mind.  What senior citizen picks a fight with a well educated former atheist in his 20's?  Seriously "Rosa Rubicondior" what were you thinking?  It is Halloween and I took the old lady mask from "Rosa Rubicondior."  Hopefully this revelation will be of use to those who wondered who this disturbed individual who suffers from anililagnia really is.  This post is not meant to defame "Rosa" or anyone and is merely the story and it happened before me.

Author's note: I will update this as more interesting information of this strange person comes along.

Update 1: 10/31/14  1:23 PM EDT

As expected, one of "Rosa Rubicondior's" sock accounts took to the typical contrarian, in denial stance claiming the photo is not "Rosa."  See the tweets he sent to my Twitter friend:

NO LIES REQUIRED  #WON

That account claims Google images disagrees, well let us see if this it true:

Page of atheist bloggers that shows up on Google Images using "Rosa Rubicondior"

STEP 1
One types "Rosa Rubicondior" on Google, then click images.  Images will come up at this link:
https://www.google.com/search?q=rosa+rubicondior&client=firefox-a&hs=7qH&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=0sZTVL6NKPjfsATBjoH4CQ&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1525&bih=727&dpr=0.9

STEP 2
Then you click the third image of the old lady with the blond hair and get this screen:

STEP 3
On the right, you click "visit page" and it will take you to the site that lists several atheist personalities and bloggers (http://www.positief-atheisme.nl/atheisten/rosa-rubicondior/).  A biography of "Rosa Rubicondior" is provided in a different language (use Google translate to change it to English) as well as a list of her blog postings.  One can also contact Peter to verify which one of my atheist friends did.

STEP 4  Shout AHA!  I got you "Rosa!" and stick your tongue out at those who defend this fraud.

UPDATE 12/8/14

"Rosa Rubicondior" aka Esther Harrison recently wrote a post attempting to dismiss this revelation. She tries hard to deflect from her real identity.  However, it is clear that her name is Esther Harrison.
This is knowable due to Peter van Montfoort 's search for an image of her online using that name. How so? Well when Jeff (Catholicgadfly) inquired about Peter's "mistake," Peter went silent on this matter and began to deflect which speaks volumes to the name Esther Harrison being that of "Rosa Rubicondior."

Peter Van Montfoort clearly was looking for an image of "Rosa Rubicondior" to put on his blog and used the name "Esther Harrison" in order to find one. Why else would he do a Google search for that name (Esther Harrison) since that name produced the image he had posted on his atheist blog linking site?  The name "Esther Harrison" would  has to be connected to "Rosa Rubicondior" otherwise Peter would not have used it to attempt to find an image to post on his blog highlighting the "Rosa Rubicondior" blog.

Pope Francis Evolution etc.. Nothing New...

The media did it again.  They took Pope Francis' words and made it seem as if the Pope "woke up" to reality, if you will.  What did they do?  Well.. they took the Pope's words on the theories of Evolution and Cosmic Inflation as the Pope finally accepting science.

Some news articles online even had a photo of the Pope with head held down and hand palms on face as if he was embarrassed or ashamed. The photo was used in order to convey the subliminal message, "the Pope finally admits science rules and he's embarrassed."

Many atheists took to Twitter, Facebook, Google + and other forums to mock the Pope and make it seem as if they were right all along and that the Pope finally caught up.  This is far from the truth and only demonstrates the ignorance atheists are plagued with which they circulate among themselves as if it were factual just to get a laugh or to troll Christians.

What the Pope said is not new at all.  The Catholic Church has always stated that its teachings are compatible with both the Theory of Evolution and Cosmic Inflation, more commonly known as the "Big Bang Theory."  Ironically, both theories were formulated by Christians!  One of them (Darwin) wanted to be a Protestant minister, while the other was actually a Catholic priest (Georges Lemaitre). Atheists had NOTHING to do with these theories which they hold dear as their supposed "weapons" against religion and God.

As stated, the Pope did not say anything new nor did he just realized that science has valid points.  He was simply repeating what was already the position of the Catholic Church while honoring Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

Here is what he said:

"Dear Brothers in the Episcopate and Priesthood,
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen!
As the veil of the bust fell, which the Academicians wished to have in the headquarters of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, in sign of recognition and gratitude, a joyful emotion arose in my mind. This bust of Benedict XVI recalls to everyone's eyes the face of our beloved Pope Ratzinger. It also recalls his spirit: that of his teachings, of his examples, of his works, of his devotion to the Church, to his present “monastic” life. This spirit, far from crumbling with the passage of time, will appear from generation to generation, always greater and more powerful.
Benedict XVI: a great Pope. Great for the strength and penetration of his intelligence; great for his important contribution to theology; great for his love in addressing the Church and human beings; great for his virtue and his religiosity. As you well know, his love for the truth is not limited to theology and philosophy, but is open to the sciences. His love of science overflows in his concern for scientists, without distinction of race, nationality, civilization, or religion; his concern for the Academy with his presence and his word; moreover, he appointed many of its members, including the current President, Werner Arber.
Benedict XVI invited, for the first time, a president of this Academy to take part in the Synod on the New Evangelization, conscious of the importance of science in modern culture. It will certainly not be able to be said of him that study and science dried up his person and his love in his encounters with God and his neighbor but, on the contrary, science, wisdom and prayer dilated his heart and spirit. We thank God for the gift He made to the Church and the world with the existence and pontificate of Pope Benedict. I thank all those who, generously, made possible this work and this ceremony, in particular, the creator of the bust, sculptor Fernando Delia, the Tua Family, and all the Academicians. I wish to thank all of you who are present here to honor this great Pope.
At the conclusion of your Plenary Session, dear Academicians, I am happy to express my profound esteem and my warm encouragement to carry forward scientific progress and the improvement of the conditions of life of people, especially the poorest.
You are addressing the highly complex topic of the evolution of the concept of nature. I will not go into it all, you understand well the scientific complexity of this important and decisive question. I only wish to underline that God and Christ walk with us and are present also in nature, as the Apostle Paul affirmed in his address at the Areopagus: “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28). When we read in Genesis the account of Creation, we risk imagining that God was a magician, with such a magic wand as to be able to do everything. However, it was not like that. He created beings and left them to develop according to the internal laws that He gave each one, so that they would develop, and reach their fullness. He gave autonomy to the beings of the universe at the same time that He assured them of his continual presence, giving being to every reality. And thus creation went forward for centuries and centuries, millennia and millennia until it became what we know today, in fact because God is not a demiurge or a magician, but the Creator who gives being to all entities. The beginning of the world was not the work of chaos, which owes its origin to another, but it derives directly from a Supreme Principle who creates out of love. The Big-Bang, that is placed today at the origin of the world, does not contradict the divine intervention but exacts it. The evolution in nature is not opposed to the notion of Creation, because evolution presupposes the creation of beings that evolve.
In regard to man, instead, there is a change and a novelty. When, on the sixth day of the Genesis account, we come to the creation of man, God gives the human being another autonomy, a different autonomy from that of nature, which is freedom. And He tells man to give a name to all things and to go forward in the course of history. He renders him responsible for creation, also so that he will dominate Creation, so that he will develop it and so forth until the end of time. Therefore, the attitude that corresponds to the scientist, especially to the Christian scientist is to question himself about the future of humanity and of the earth and, as a free and responsible being, to contribute to prepare it, to preserve it, and to eliminate the risks of the environment, be they natural or human. However, at the same time, the scientist must be moved by trust that hidden nature, in its evolving mechanisms, of potentialities that concern the intelligence and freedom, to discover and to act to arrive at development, which is in the plan of the Creator. Then, although limited, man’s action participates in the power of God and is able to build a world adapted to his twofold corporeal and spiritual life; to build a human world for all – for all human beings, and not for a group or a privileged class. This hope and trust in God, Author of nature, and in the capacity of the human spirit, are able to give the researcher new energy and profound serenity. However, it is also true that man’s action, when his liberty becomes autonomy,  -- which is not liberty but autonomy --  destroys creation and man takes the place of the Creator. And this is the grave sin against God the Creator.
I encourage you to continue your works and to carry out that felicitous theoretical and practical initiatives in favor of human beings, which do them honor. I now joyfully consign the necklace that Monsignor Sanchez Sorondo will give the new Members. Thank you."

In previous posts, I wrote the following regarding Evolution:

"We cannot read the accounts of Creation in Genesis literally.  This will bring about many problems.
The Catholic Church does not have an official position on creation only that God created us.  However, Evolution seems to be the side the Church takes.  The recent pontificates of Blessed John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI have publicly voiced approval of the theory of Evolution.
The first mention of evolution was in the encyclical Humanis Generis. Pope Pius XII states:
“The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experiences in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter—for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God.”
Pope Pius XII basically says that evolution can be accepted as long as the teaching that souls are immediately created by God is held alongside it.
Blessed John Paul II had this to say to the Pontifical Academy for the Sciences in 1996:
“In his encyclical Humani Generis (1950), my predecessor Pius XII has already affirmed that there is no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of the faith regarding man and his vocation, provided that we do not lose sight of certain fixed points…. Today, more than a half-century after the appearance of that encyclical, some new findings lead us toward the recognition of evolution as more than a hypothesis. In fact it is remarkable that this theory has had progressively greater influence on the spirit of researchers, following a series of discoveries in different scholarly disciplines. The convergence in the results of these independent studies—which was neither planned nor sought—constitutes in itself a significant argument in favor of the theory.”
Here the late Pontiff states that evolution and faith are not in disagreement.  He even goes as far as giving merit to the theory of evolution as being supported by evidence.
Pope Benedict XVI as Cardinal Ratizinger wrote:
“We cannot say: creation or evolution, inasmuch as these two things respond to two different realities. The story of the dust of the earth and the breath of God, which we just heard, does not in fact explain how human persons come to be but rather what they are. It explains their inmost origin and casts light on the project that they are. And, vice versa, the theory of evolution seeks to understand and describe biological developments. But in so doing it cannot explain where the ‘project’ of human persons comes from, nor their inner origin, nor their particular nature. To that extent we are faced here with two complementary—rather than mutually exclusive—realities.” -In the Beginning: A Catholic Understanding of the Story of Creation and the Fall
Evolution is an important theory to teach our children.  The story of Creation is also important to teach.  However, this story must be taught in a way that children can understand it in relation to what we know today via evolution.  Who cares if we came from slime, fish, apes or a rock.  The important thing is that God created us and we are here now.
In 1987, the United States Supreme Court ruled the teaching of Creationism unconstitutional... Evolution does not disqualify God as Creator.  If anything, it shows the genius of God and how He uses natural processes in order to bring about life."
Pope Emeritus Benedict the XVI also voiced his concern at the mere existence of the Evolution vs Creationism debate.  He stated, "They [creationism/evolution] are presented as alternatives that exclude each other, this clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such."  Pope Emeritus calls the debate "an absurdity" and rightfully so.  It is preposterous to adhere to a literal interpretation of the book of Genesis in light of scientific facts that exist today." (http://www.sacerdotus.com/2013/05/creationism-harms-christianity.html)

There is nothing contradictory between both theories and the idea that God is creator.  It does not contradict the Catholic faith.  Both theories actually help prove the existence of an intelligent being whose purpose was to create a universe with specificity and order.  The Church gave us science as we know it today, so it would be silly to give false impressions that the Pope just "discovered" evolution or the big bang theory as being valid, real and true.  As for the "God/Magic Wand" thing, I am assuming the Pope made this comment in response to the caricaturing of God done by new atheists who often describe Him as a "Sky Wizard."  The Pope is making it clear that atheists got it wrong (as usual) and that Creationists are in fact harming Christianity and the accounts found in Genesis.

My friend and Biologist Dr. Gauger wrote an excellent post on this, check it out at: http://www.evolutionnews.org/2014/10/on_evolution_po090761.html

Atheists Sweat God

I never get tired of stating that deep down atheists are attracted to God (see: Atheists Don't Exist). This is so obvious in their obsession with God. The concept and person of God is always on their mind; in their status updates and even in their conferences.  They even have "Atheist TV" which talks about... yes you have guess it: God!

Well a new study published in The International Journal for the Psychology of Religion entitled, "Atheists Become Emotionally Aroused When Daring God to Do Terrible Things," it was demonstrated that atheists take God as serious as theists.  The study took place in Finland which has a high rate of atheists. In the first study, psychologists took 29 subjects.  16 were atheists and 13 were theists. Each read 36 statements ranging from God, offensive speech and neutral speech.  The second study had 19 atheists and they were asked to say statements calling on God to bring harm on others, in some cases their own parents.  Skin-conductance tests using machines that measure perspiration were used.  When the studies were completed, it was found that both atheists and theists perspired heavily when calling upon God to bring harm to others. This seems to show that atheists believed they were in fact talking to a being capable of bringing harm which elevated their anxiety and stress levels.

If we think about it, why would atheists get nervous and sweat over a statement made calling on an imaginary being to do harm? Would you sweat or get nervous if you said, "may a fairy push my wife down the stairs?"  Most likely, we all would try hard not to crack a smile when saying this silly statement because we know fairies do not exist. The interesting thing here is that the atheists tested were not smiling.  They literally believed the statement they read despite believing God is nothing more than a myth or "sky fairy" as atheists usually describe God.  This is very interesting indeed and shows that God is not really a mythological concept for atheists.  Their perspiration and elevated stress leveled shows that they believed the statements would have had an effect in reality even though they believe God is not real.  Is atheism merely a mental block?

Msgr Lorenzo Albacete - Rest In Peace

It is sad to report that a friend and great priest who I shared many things in common with has passed on to the Lord.

Monsignor Lorenzo Albacete born January 7, 1941, also called "Mystical Monsignor" passed away at the age of 73 after battling a long illness. Albacete had an interesting life and one that is similar to mine.  He was born in Puerto Rico where he grew up atheist.  Albacete was a very intelligent man having earned doctoral degrees in Physics and Space Science.  Prior to being ordained a priest in 1972, he worked at NASA as a scientist.

Leaving Atheism:
As a physicist and scientist at NASA, he was surrounded by atheists and agnostics. One would wonder how Albacete left atheism for Catholicism.  While studying in labs the wonders of physics and the universe, he noticed that God was not such a bad idea after all.  He saw God in science; in the physics and workings of the universe.  This is similar to my own story.   In 1968 he read Cardinal Ratzinger's (Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI) "Introduction to Christianity."  After reading this amazing book which I have read myself and which aided me in my own conversion, Albacete understood Christianity more. He converted, left his NASA position and felt called to the Catholic priesthood. His colleagues could not understand how he could be a man of science and then believe in a dead man on Sundays.  Nevertheless, he continued on with his choice and was ordained.

Career
He earned a master's degree in Sacred Theology at the Catholic University of America and then a doctorate in Sacred Theology at Pontifical University of St. Thomas in Rome. He was the president of the Catholic University of Puerto Rico for some time and also taught at St. John Paul II Institute for some time.  Later on, he taught at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, New York. His experience with the Hispanic brought him to become an adviser on Hispanic Affairs to the US Bishop's Conference.  He was also a leader in the Communion and Liberation movement founded by Fr. Luigi Giussani.

Monsignor Albacete was a prolific writer.  He wrote for Tempi, the New Yorker, as well as the New York Times Magazine. Albacete also authored the book "God at the Ritz: Attraction to Infinity" which is a good read and was also in the film "The Human Experience."  Albacete was often on PBS and gave talks on John Paul II's "Theology of the Body." He and John Paul II were friends and met prior to John Paul II becoming the Pope.  While in Washington, Albacete was a young priest who was told to drive a Polish bishop (Karol Wojtyla) around time.  This is how they got to know each other.  Albacete also got to become friends with Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI whose book was responsible for further opening his scientific mind to God.  When Saint John Paul II visited Cuba in the late 1990's, Monsignor Albacete accompanied him and even spoke to Fidel Castro who told him that no priest ever spoke to him of Christ in the way Albacete did.  This is no surprise.  Monsignor Albacete was a very humble man who has a gift of explaining heavy topics in theology and science with ease and simplicity. There was no way you could get confused or lost in his lecture which was always jovial and full of laughter whenever he made a joke or a funny comment.  He even had a debate with the late Christopher Hitchens.

I met him years ago at a parish in Manhattan via my uncle who had become a permanent deacon. He gave a talk at the parish and I was delighted to learn that he was an atheist and physicist when he introduced himself.  Needless to say, after the talk I was after him like a fan after a pop star-celebrity. His story mirrored my own life's story and I learned a great deal from him since we both related to each other in that respect. It was physics that led me to God as well, not religious texts or preaching. God used science to bring Albacete, myself and many others to Himself.

Monsignor Albacete will be missed.  He was a great priest, funny, intelligent, humble and loved science!  May he rest in God's peace.

Love God & Neighbor - 30th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Today's readings call us to love God and our neighbors.

In the first reading from Exodus, we read how God tells the Israelites to be welcoming and caring of others who are not of their own culture. "You shall not molest or oppress an alien, for you were once aliens yourself in the land of Egypt."  In other words, you shall not harass others who come as strangers to your land because you too were strangers in the land of Egypt. This passage reminds the Israelites and us that we must be welcoming of others.  We must never cheat them, charge them interest on loans, take from them. In a word; we must be charitable.

In American society, some political parties worry much about children crossing the borders as well as others. They even block buses carrying these children and call for their return. Ironically, these protesters call themselves "Bible Christians." This first reading reminds us that this is now what we are supposed to do.  While nations have a right and duty to protect its interests, including its borders; this does not mean they cannot help those in distress or the aliens who cross into their territory looking for help.  If we truly believe in God and are Christians, then we must not "molest or oppress an alien; we must not wrong any widow or orphan, no charge interest against them or take their cloaks," so to speak. We must welcome them and try our best to help them.  As Americans, our ancestors most likely came from other lands and were not part of this land that makes up 50 states. The original dwellers of this land in many cases welcomed our European ancestors and showed them how to grow crops and so forth.  We all know the story of the Pilgrims and Native Americans and how the natives helped the Europeans. Unfortunately, the land was taken from them and claimed for the many crowns of European societies.  Not all land was acquired in this way, some actually bought it fair and square.  Nevertheless, we must remember that our ancestors were strangers in this land as well and we should be more compassionate towards those who come into this nation seeking help. God will hear their cries as well. The reading repeats this twice showing how serious God is.  He reminds the Israelites that others who are not of this culture are still His children and He hears their prayers. God is the God of all.

In the responsorial Psalm, we read how God is our strength. We love Him because of this.  The Psalm tells us how God is our rock, our hero, our King and the one who cares for us.  God is indeed these and more.  He cares for us because we are His creation. God loves each one of us and wants nothing more than for us to be happy and fulfill the potential He has ordained for us. God is indeed our savior and the one who protects us and our interests.

St. Paul in the second readings tells us how the Thessalonians imitated him and his company in regards to how to be Christians. They received the Word of God in affliction due to its unpopularity, but were joyous upon receiving it because it comes from the Holy Spirit. St. Paul called the Thessalonians to be models for all other believers taking what they had learn from him and spreading it around.  This passage reminds us that how we behave preaches more the Gospel of Christ than mere words. St. Francis of Assisi is quoted as saying, "Preach the Gospel and if necessary, use words." He got this idea from this passage where St. Paul says, "For from you the Word of the Lord has sounded forth... but in every place your faith in God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything." Our image and behavior brings others to Christ or away from Him. When we behave like Christians, others will see that our faith has merit, it works.  It is not just collection of rules, but a way of life that brings peace, love and stability in one's life.  People want this in their own lives and will want to know "your secret," so to speak.  Our "secret" is no secret.  We are joyous because of Jesus Christ!  This is why it is extremely important that we behave as Christians. We must be welcoming of others, even those who hate us. We must be nice to people, even those who are rude to us.  Being nice does not mean that we are weak or "liberals."  We must not be the "Church of Nice" nor the "Church of Mean;" instead, we must be the Catholic Church of Christ.  However, we must be careful that our display of Christianity is genuine and meant to preach the Gospel and not to bring adulation to ourselves (Matthew 6:5).

Finally, in the Gospel Jesus is once again tested by the teachers of the law.  They ask Him, "Which commandment in the law is the greatest?" The Jews not only follow the 10 commandments but also 613 other laws in the first five books of the Old Testament. Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest in an attempt to trick Him into preaching heresy or going against Jewish teaching.  As expected, Jesus answers the question in a way that does not sound heretical and is to the point. He answers, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and the first commandment.  The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

Here Jesus makes it clear that all the commandments, including the 613 are summed up in these two commandments to love God with one's whole being and our neighbor as ourselves.  These words tie into the first reading where God called the Israelites to be loving and welcoming of others, reminding them that He too listens to those who are not Israelites.  Unfortunately many times we get caught up in laws and rituals like the Pharisees and Sadducees.  We become prisoners of our own rules and become rigid even to the point of criticizing the Pope, bishops and any attempt to present the teachings of the Church in a more welcoming and positive light.  This is why Pope Francis has been stressing that we must not become this way. Not everyone is going to be a practicing Catholic.  Let us be realistic.  We live in a world with all kinds of people with all kinds of different lives. Many of them will refuse to turn away from those lives.  Our Catholic faith does not call us to shun these people or ostracize them.  Like in the first reading, we must be welcoming of the alien. Laws, rubrics, canons and teachings were made to serve us not us serve them (Mark 2:27).  As Pope Francis said, we must be open to the "God of surprises."

In his statement to the recent synod, the Pope said it extremely well. We can see the Holy Spirit was truly speaking through him.  He wrote:

"  - One, a temptation to hostile inflexibility, that is, wanting to close oneself within the written word, (the letter) and not allowing oneself to be surprised by God, by the God of surprises, (the spirit); within the law, within the certitude of what we know and not of what we still need to learn and to achieve. From the time of Christ, it is the temptation of the zealous, of the scrupulous, of the solicitous and of the so-called – today – “traditionalists” and also of the intellectuals.
  - The temptation to a destructive tendency to goodness [it. buonismo], that in the name of a deceptive mercy binds the wounds without first curing them and treating them; that treats the symptoms and not the causes and the roots. It is the temptation of the “do-gooders,” of the fearful, and also of the so-called “progressives and liberals.”
  - The temptation to transform stones into bread to break the long, heavy, and painful fast (cf. Lk 4:1-4); and also to transform the bread into a stone and cast it against the sinners, the weak, and the sick (cf Jn 8:7), that is, to transform it into unbearable burdens (Lk 11:46).
  - The temptation to come down off the Cross, to please the people, and not stay there, in order to fulfil the will of the Father; to bow down to a worldly spirit instead of purifying it and bending it to the Spirit of God.
  - The temptation to neglect the “depositum fidei” [the deposit of faith], not thinking of themselves as guardians but as owners or masters [of it]; or, on the other hand, the temptation to neglect reality, making use of meticulous language and a language of smoothing to say so many things and to say nothing! They call them “byzantinisms,” I think, these things…"

We must not be tempted into becoming rigid and closed within our own beliefs.  Instead we must welcome the alien and care for him or her.  This care must not be a pseudo form of mercy that disregards our faith and the teachings of the Church. It must be merciful but also careful to attend to the wounds in the person which is caused by sin. We must not use our bread as stone to smash the heads of others. In other words, we must not use our faith, the teachings of the Church, especially the Sacraments as tools to oppress or shame others, especially those in deep sin.  We must also never be so welcoming that we do not address the sin of those we welcome.  Like Christ, we must not condemn those addicted to sin, but must remind them to "sin no more" (John 8:11).

Above all, we must love God with all of our being. This means that every second, every breath we have must be in honor and glory of God. We exist because of God. We owe all to God. God is so awesome that He gives us the free will to love Him or hate Him.  He does not force anyone to love Him like some manic lover seeking attention. Loving God allows us to love others as ourselves because we are all made in God's image (Genesis 1:27).  Let us love God and one another.

Shooting in Washington School

Yesterday morning, Jaylen Fryberg a kid who had won the crown as homecoming prince last week entered his school's cafeteria opening fire and killing two.  According to reports, Fryberg had trouble with a difficult break up with a girl which caused him emotional distressed.

The reports base this on his Twitter account tweets and information given by friends of his. It seemed like he could not cope with the breakup and took it out using violence. Fryberg is seen in photos hunting game and his family owns guns. A teacher at the school tried to stop Fryberg. Social studies teacher Megan Silberberger jumped into action as Fryberg attempted to reload his weapon, a .40 caliber gun which was found at the crime scene.  In the end, two were killed including Jaylen who killed himself.  Four others were injured, some of whom are his own cousins.

Once again gun control is being brought up in light of this new attack. In America, it seems that school shootings take place every few months. What is going on?  Why is there so many shootings in schools?  I will post a future blog post on this and give my thoughts.

Let us pray for all those involved and also remember that Jaylen Fryberg was sick. We must pray for his soul.

I will update and edit this post as more information comes in.

NY Resident With Ebola

Ebola has reached New York City!  Dr. Craig Spencer who works for Doctors Without Borders was working in Guinea and returned to the United States just a few days ago. He seemed fine until he began feeling fatigue on Wednesday October 22. Despite this, he went on a three mile jog, traveled via an Uber taxi cab as well as the A and L lines on the subway. He also went out for a night of recreation at a Brooklyn bowling alley.

It wasn't until Thursday morning that he got a fever that reached 103 degrees and had bouts of diarrhea. He was immediately transferred to Bellevue Hospital, the hospital where I was born at.  Bellevue Hospital is the official place to treat possible cases of Ebola in the New York City area.

Both Mayor Diblasio and Governor Cuomo as well as medical professionals spoke via a press conference reassuring New Yorkers that things are under control and that Dr. Spencer will have a speedy recovery since he entered isolation at the onset of the virus infection.  Nevertheless, as a precaution, city officials are tracking down anyone who may have been in close contract with the patient.

Let us pray for Dr. Craig Spencer that he may recovery quickly and that Ebola will not spread elsewhere in the City.  He is receiving top notch care at Bellevue Hospital which is the hospital from which I was born and where my mother took me as a child to get my physicals, shots and what not.   He's in good hands!  Dr. Spencer volunteered his knowledge and skills to help others.  God will help him.

Gamma Atheist Decays

It seems the gamma has decayed after encountering a Poynting flux dominated flow - "Sacerdotus." :)

After David Viviano aka "Gamma Atheist" of "Atheist Hangouts" accepted to debate me, he is still with his dilly dally. I have been
waiting for him to email me to plan this debate better. For a while, we have even discussed a bit on his Youtube video page.  He stalled and then deleted the messages.  My schedule is tight so he
needs to be professional.   It was HIS idea to have me on his show...

So I wait and wait until David Gamma Atheist decides to email me to plan this out.  Now he is demanding that I remove other posts on atheists... is he for real?  What do other atheists have to do with him?  It seems he is just playing games like a boy instead of behaving like a grown man. The debate should be between US, no one else.  This is not a negotiation between nations to release hostages or demand certain conditions.   As stated, my schedule is extremely filled and complicated.

So this is why it is VERY important that he emails me to plan this out with better detail.  There are many who want to see this debate. Some atheists have emailed me excited about it and hoping it comes together.   David is the one delaying it now. I am waiting for David to comply and follow through with his acceptance.

I offered him these options:

a) Do it at around 2:30 or 3 AM EST which is usually the time I do my radio program and blog.

b)Wait till I am off semester.

c) You can post on my blog rationallyfaithful.blogspot.com following the outline and then I will reply when I can.  I can authorize you as a admin on the site in case you think I will alter comments.

d) You and I can make videos replying to each other and then splice them together into one video.

Saint John Paul II

John Paul II we love you!

Many of you know this famous chant which many young people used whenever the Pope made his presence known.

Pope John Paul II was born Karol Jozef Wojtyla in Wadowice, Poland, on May 18, 1920.  He was the youngest of three children. Wojtyla lost his mother in 1929, then his brother in 1932, followed by his father in 1941.  The deaths of his family members did not deter him.  He received First Holy Communion at the tender age of nine and the Sacrament of Confirmation as a grown man of eighteen years of age.  In 1938, Wojtyla registered at the Jagellonian University in Krakow. As Nazism spread around Poland, the Nazis shut down the university forcing Karol to find work at a quarry and in a chemical factory.  It was there that he earned a living and avoided being deported by the Nazis.

In the 1940s, he felt called to the priesthood and began to study at the clandestine major seminary of Krakow. Karol continued his studies and was ordained on November 1, 1946.  In Rome, Karol would earn a doctorate in theology in 1948.  His dissertation would be on the writings of St. John of the Cross.  As a parish priest, Karol worked in a church at Niegowic.  There he would work with youth groups while at the same time continuing his studies.  His advance degrees would lead him to become a professor of moral theology and ethics in the major seminary at Krakow.

Karol would be ordained a bishop on July 4, 1958 and would then become Archbishop of Krakow and then a Cardinal of the Catholic Church on June 26, 1967.  As a bishop, Karol participated in the Second Vatican Council.  He played an important wrote in drafting Gaudium et Spes.

It wasn't until October 16, 1978 that he was elected the Roman Pontiff.  He took the name John Paul II in honor of his predecessors.  As Pope, John Paul II would become the most traveled Pope in history visiting many nations including the United States where he celebrated Mass at Yankee stadium, St. Patrick's cathedral and the Great Lawn at Central Park on October 7, 1995.  He holds the third longest pontificate and remained in office despite suffering many health problems.

John Paul II would be no stranger to controversy.  He spoke firmly on issues regarding social justice and morality.  John Paul II reaffirmed the priesthood as only being possible with male candidates.  This put him at odds with some American religious sisters who felt women should be allowed to become priests.  Pope John Paul II wrote 14 encyclicals, 11 Apostolic Constitutions, 15 Apostolic Exhortations, 45 Apostolic Letters as well as five books. He had beatified and canonized the most people in Church history and led the Church into the new millennium.  John Paul II also began the very popular World Youth Day which brings crowds of young people to a place in the world in order to celebrate their faith.  He currently holds the world record for gathering the most people ever in one location at the Philippines.

On May 13, 1981, Pope John Paul II would be shot as he bent to bless an image of Our Lady of Fatima.  He credits Our Lady of Fatima for saving his life.  A year later, he would visit Fatima, Portugal in order to place the bullet in the crowd of the statue there. John Paul II was no stranger to Marian devotion.  He loved her with a passion and even his motto "Totus Tuus" demonstrated this.  It means "I am all thine."  He was a strong advocate for praying the Rosary as well as Eucharistic adoration.

Pope John Paul II passed on to the Lord on April 2, 2005 which was the vigil of the Divine Mercy.  He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on May 1, 2011 and canonized April 27, 2014.  His feast day is today October 22.

His life entailed preaching Christ.  Even in his suffering, Pope John Paul II preached Christ.

Blessed Paul VI

Yesterday, Pope Paul VI was beatified by Pope Francis at St. Peter's Square.  He was accompanied by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who was made a cardinal by Paul Vi.

Blessed Paul VI was born Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini on September 26 1897 and died on August 6, 1978. He took the name Paul in honor of the great evangelist who worked hard to spread the Gospel.  Montini wanted to be like Paul in the new modern world that was full of so many challenges for the Church.

Blessed Paul VI took the helm after the passing of St. John XXIII. He took on the task of continuing the Vatican II councils and implemented many changes in order to better help the Church transmit the Gospel to the world which was clouded with sophism.  He wanted the council to focus on giving a better understanding of the Catholic faith, bring about Church renewal, promoting Christian unity and having a more open dialog with the world.  Blessed Paul VI worked hard to bring about fruit in ecumenism.  He met with the Patriach in Jerusalem as a sign that the Catholic Church was serious about Christian unity.  He wrote 6 encyclicals:

  • Mense Maio - dealt on the Virgin Mary
  • Ecclesiam Suam - dealt with the teaching of the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ
  • Mysterium Fidei - dealt on the mystery of faith and defended the teaching that the Eucharist is literally the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.
  • Sacerdotalis Caelibatus - dealt with priestly celibacy.
  • Populorum Progressio - a social justice document dealing with the development of people in the global setting.
  • Humanae Vitae - document on human life which condemned artificial birth control and prophetically warned of the dangers it would bring to the family and world.
The latter is probably what is most known for. Humanae Vitae is a prophetic document that warned the world about the dangers of artificial birth control.  We have been seeing Blessed Paul VI's words come true decades after his death!  This encyclical was very controversial and probably is what created the taboo that the Catholic Church is "out of touch" with the world.
Since Blessed Paul VI condemned artificial birth control, many organizations that deal with development attacked him and his words saying that they would cause problems with world population and the prevention of diseases.  Even some bishops, cardinals and theologians condemned the encyclical saying it was too invasive and not realistic.  Saint John XXIII had a commission investigate birth control and the report was presented to Pope Paul VI.  The recommendation was that the Church should allow the use of artificial birth control.  Instead of complying with the report, Blessed Paul VI rejected it and said, "therefore, having attentively sifted the documentation laid before us, after mature reflection and assiduous prayers, we now intend, by virtue or the mandate entrusted to us by Christ, to give our reply to these grave questions."  His reply was NO.

The Holy Spirit spoke through Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae because what he warned about is what happened.  Some considered his warnings a slippery slope fallacy, but they came true and are still coming to fruition today.  The institution of artificial birth control gives men and women a false sense of control.  They feel they can do whatever they want with their bodies. Children become products instead of lives.

Because artificial birth control was made available, women became the "sex toy" of the man. Divorces skyrocketed and today's world has pushed love aside in place of sexual pleasure and pursuits of individual happiness at the expense of others.  This false sense of autonomy brought about the idea that we can have relationships with anyone, including those of the same gender.  Since artificial birth control was pushed as the norm, abortion easily followed because children can be "delayed" when the couple feels like it.  Artificial birth control devalues the human person.  It makes the human a commodity to be used to please another.

Blessed Paul VI was almost assassinated by a man who stabbed him at the airport in Manila in 1970. The Vatican never disclosed this until years later.  Many have compared Blessed Paul VI with Pope Francis.  Both loved the poor and preferred to use simple things instead of heavily ornate vestments. Blessed Paul VI even sold the Papal tiara and donated the money to the poor.

When Blessed Teresa of Calcutta asked him for help to care for the poor, he gave her his car so she can sell it to use the money for her ministry to the poor and sick.  Pope Francis has never stopped bringing up the need to care for the poor.  He too prefers less ornate vestments and wants priests to live simply.  He was also the first Pope to visit the United States of America.  The first Papal Mass ever in the "new world" was in the Bronx at the old Yankee Stadium.

May Blessed Paul VI pray for us in these trying times.
